Another Snowy Day Plus What Beauty Treasures Do You Miss?

I wanted to blog today, but I am taking a snow day. We've had about five inches of snow so far today, and we are expecting freezing rain to start this afternoon. I took the photo above about an hour ago when I went to put peanuts in the feeder for the second time today. That blob on the ground is a cardinal cleaning up the few I spilled.

I wanted to share my Valentine's picture of Mom. She is her reclining chair, kept warm with a throw. She's 93 now, so she gets cold easily. I bought her chocolate-covered strawberries and another dessert. Plus we had a vodka sauce lasagne for her Valentine's dinner.

I wanted to ask you a question. What beauty treasure do you really miss, but is discontinued and impossible to find? I'll get us started. I miss Estée Lauder Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelée. Over a few years, Estée Lauder introduced multiple colors, and they were all gorgeous. I looked forward to each season's new shade. Click on this link to see Crystal Baby. I think it's ashamed that Estée Lauder appears to have ceded its color line to Aerin Lauder. Sadly, I think her makeup is boring. In an effort to revive its color lines (I assume), the company is introducing colors to be promoted by two Jenner (aka Kardashian) gals. I have no interest in enriching that family.

How about you?  What would you love to see introduced on the market again?

Hi CG! Your mother is so beautiful! Thanks for sharing a picture.

I terribly, terribly miss two skincare items:
- La Mer's old UV Protecting Fluid. I have insanely sensitive skin and this was the only SPF I could use. The new version is terrible. I'm still seeking a replacement - even just physical SPFs often have other ingredients that irritate my skin.
- La Prairie's Blemish Control. I get very few blemishes, but this always worked overnight with no irritation. Recently I found Indie Lee's Blemish Stick - not as good as La Prairie's but at least it doesn't irritate my skin.

So happy to have you back blogging! Makes my day!

Oh how I miss Chanel's Instant Lash mascara. There was nothing better. Perfect texture and color.

Your mom is lovely, and what a beautiful smile!
I cannot believe Chanel is not making my favorite bronzer any longer: Lumiere D'ete. It is perfect for me. Very sad, indeed!
Not snowy here in VT., but very cold! So wondwrful to have your blogs on these gloomy, cold days! Certainly a highlight for me!

I can see where you get your beautiful looks! Your mom is lovely.

To answer your question, I'm not sure that there is anything that I truly miss all that bad. There are always "new and improved" items coming on the market and I never want to feel like I'm stuck in a time warp. Change is good!

Your mom is beautiful and radiant. Gorgeous flowers, too! I already miss the old design of the Chanel nail polishes. The new ones look half-cooked/naked. Chanel used to make a double-sided eye pencil and a stick foundation that I miss.
Have a good week,
Tanja

What a lovely lady! I hope you and your mom had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday weekend. You captured a beautiful moment--bright and cheerful flowers and your mom looking so comfy and happy. You've been blessed to have her in your life for as long as you have and she is blessed twice over to have you there for her.

I'm right there with Mamaval. I really don't miss anything because I'm always moving on.

I can tell you are a wonderful daughter just looking at your mom and her flowers. I am impressed that she can eat chocolates and vodka sauce at her age! I miss cake mascara. You could build it and the lashes never clumped together. I remember my mother applying Maybelline black cake mascara in the red slider container. A little brow pencil and some red lipstick and she was off! Gorgeous woman. I like the photo of the yard. It looks very peaceful there in the snow.

I don't understand why cake eyeliner is not as popular as it used to be. I used it for years! One of my first beauty products was the Clinique cake eyeliner. I recently found out that they still make + sell it! I am definitely picking it up! What lovely pictures you posted :-)

I'm with you-Lauder's lost me as a customer. I can't stand any of that Kardashian/Jenner crew and will not buy anything they are used to promote. I guess that Lauder's going after a younger demographic, so I don't suppose they care what this 54 year old thinks!

Bethesda was the same!...and it all melted by Tuesday afternoon :(

I lost interest in the Estee Lauder makeup after Aerin was introduced, much like yourself! I always dabbled in EL because the makeup was great and I really miss the gelees. They were just so fun! If they ever discontinue the ANR serum I don't know what I'd do...I have not tried anything else I like more!

What I miss most is the Chanel liquid eyeliner pen. They changed the brush to a skinny felt tip (last year?) from a brush tip. I always preferred the brush tip because I like a thicker line and also that I could dispense the product myself. I don't like that most companies are making the move to the felt tip!

Thanks for the recommendation to try the Armani Maestro UV ... But it's not available in Canada.

Hi Mel,

My first eyeliner was also a cake although it wasn't actually marketed as eyeliner. It was Maybelline's black cake mascara in the red plastic case. It was a great little multi-tasker. I'd use it to line close to the lashes and then I'd apply it as mascara. I used it until Yardley came out with their cake eyeliner in the early 60's and eventually I moved on to Clinique. Cake eyeliner coexisted with liquid eyeliner for years, but when pencils hit the big time, cake eyeliner all but vanished--perhaps because women didn't want to bother having to mix it with water and the inconsistencies that sometimes resulted. Laura Mercier has her tightlining cakes, but they're not quite the same as the old fashioned cake eyeliners that applied so smoothly and were so versatile. Too bad :-(

I really miss "Charles of the Ritz" Moisture Reservoir liquid foundation in Ivory Beige.....nothing has come close to this wonderful foundation even with all the new advancements in formulations with base make up since 1979. Well, one formulation that is the closest is the Dior nude air serum foundation and I use it with an oil underneath and it does not interfere with the make up at all... good... But, not the same Do you remember this make up?

LMM38,

I don't! Please repost on today's Friday Forum. You may find someone who remembers your treasure.
