The Friday Forum - March 18

Yesterday, I went to a Guerlain Skin Care Event at Neiman Marcus Tysons Galleria. I was treated to a long hand massage that relaxed me after a full day at work. Unfortunately, I had to leave before the "full treatment," but I left with a few treasures I'll tell you about very soon.

I am praying for sunshine this weekend. We may see the sun Saturday. I'm hoping to take photos. I fear Sunday may be a washout. There is a possible snow storm predicted. I'm so tired of that white stuff.

We have nesting bald eagles in DC, and the two eggs are predicted to hatch this weekend. One little eagle has already started to break his way out of the shell. Please send happy thoughts the way of our precious family. I hope the eaglets survive and thrive.

It's time for The Friday Forum. The Friday Forum has always been an opportunity to share information. Are you using a fabulous product and want to sing its praises? Tell us about it! Did you find a beauty product disappointing? Tell us why! Do you have questions others might be able to answer? We can help! Want to talk about skin care? I'm game. Just use the comments. We have busy weekends and slow ones on the forum. I hope you are ready to share.

One more thing...every time I publish a post, just about every day, old subscribers unsubscribe. That's OK. There are a lot of ways to make sure you see Best Things in Beauty when you're ready. Or not. It's a little weird, though. FeedBlitz asks readers to select a reason. Some say I send out too many updates, and others say I send out too few updates. I can't figure that one out. The feeds go out every day I write a feature. I'm going to stick with that; it's a blogging convention. Fortunately, for every two or three I lose, I gain a new subscriber. To my new subscribers, thank you! You make me happy.

Good morning, Ms. C. Girl...I very recently saw the new Guerlain Meteorites Pearls Carousel for Summer '16 on the NM website, which I check almost daily! I decided right then that I MUST have it. Then when I saw your critique, I knew it was coming my way. I read somewhere that the new "IT" manicure for Spring/Summer was metallic silver. So this morning I polished the pinkies silver and wore bright silver jewelry. It's casual Friday at work, and all that silver looks great with all the denim (really just black pants with a denim top and leopard Jacks). I have only recently started using Tatcha products. I agree with you that they are almost perfection. I see more in my future. FOTD is Bulgari Eau Parfumee Au The Bleu which I really like. Has anyone tried Au The Rouge? I should be getting a sample of Au The Rouge in those cool little Refreshing Towels that Bulgari sells (with the latest NM order arriving today), so I'll test it myself. Well, I've stopped writing and started rambling, so must close. Take care everyone, Judy

I don't comment frequently however I am happy you are backups posting. I love reading your reviews about products and follow many of your recommendations! It's also nice to know about you. Please do not take personally those who unsubscribe. You have many fans!!

Hello, I have a question for Nemo, last week you mentioned you'd ordered all three of the new Chanel quads. I was just wondering how you find them.

I have read this week that some people have been really disappointed in them. Chanel quads are one of my favourite eyeshadow formulas but I'm told the new ones are made in France and not Italy and the quality just isn't the same

The eaglet has landed! I've been glued to the feed since I saw it on the news yesterday. This morning I was in a conference call and the little thing decided to complete his hatching about 2 minutes after I peeked in on the scene!

I love your site and missed it when you weren't posting. I would imagine that people who unsubscribe from your list on account of receiving one or two emails a week are the sort of people who think the census and solar eclipses also happen way too frequently.

I must tell you, CG, that your blog is simply the best! Prior to discovering your little gem, I surfed the cosmetic blog world, and what is out there is quite disappointing! I love that you and your readers review the high-quality cosmetics, which is NOT what most of them do. I may not be able,to purchase every wonderful product mentioned, but I love knowing about them. My mother always said to use the "best" cosmetics I could afford as our skin is precious, and your blog, CG, is certainly the best that knowledge! Thank you, and to borrow a phrase from a Northern clothing company "Never stop exploring" for the very best!

The temperature has dropped considerably up here in the North Country making it necessary to keep the home fires burning, literally! Happily I have TATCHA's products on hand, especially her fabulous mist, thanks to you and your readers! A happy, and hopefully, sunny weekend to all!

Thank you, everyone. I'm falling asleep! I'll be back in the morning.

I find your blog so informative and well written and enjoy your readers' comments. I also love your heart for animals and nature. I am thinking whether I need the Guerlain Meteorites. I don't use the three I have that much - has anybody ever used one of these up? I am enjoying the F. Malle fragrance Une Rose. Must be my desire for spring.

I found your blog right before you had to take a break and I was so sad! Every time I would look up swatch photos yours were fantastic and your reviews are the absolute best in the business! I follow some other blogs where the photography is stunning, but I do not trust their opinions nearly as much. I have found many bloggers who contradict themselves or just seem to love the most expensive products and the ones they have been sent. I am very grateful for all the time and energy you put into this blog, and for all the lovely commentators as well.

Has anyone actually seen the Armani spring collection? Of course I want all of it, but I can't find anything other than stock photos really. I just like to see some type of photo before I order so that I know it will work for me rather than just having to return it if it's not what I expected. I'm also anxious to hear more reviews about the new Chanel quads. Those colors are so gorgeous, it will be a huge disappointment if the quality has really fallen off as it sounds.

Also my birthday is coming up and I am going to take the plunge with Kate Somerville dermal quench you recommended CG!

Thank you, Jill!

I purchased the Armami spring palette. I think it's gorgeous. I don't need the other items. Not that they aren't pretty. I just don't find them exciting. The blush in the palette is fabulous for my coloring, and I'll wear all three eye shadows. The slight periwinkle tint in the grey shadow is striking.

Tanja, isn't Une Rose delightful? I have and love it.

I think you will find Carousel a must-have. Most of the Météorites are beautiful finishing powders. Not all of them add the pink glow that Carousel adds. For my skin, that glow is a pick-me-up. I'm smitten.

Hi Sandra,

Thank you. One big differentiator of my blog is that I will not publish sponsored posts, meaning I will not accept money for writing a feature. No matter what they say ("I'm not influenced by the payment"), many bloggers are simply working for the money, not for the love of beauty products or objectivity. I don't trust any blog feature for which the blogger was paid.

For a long time, I belonged to a Facebook group of beauty bloggers, and I was appalled by their indignation that they would be asked by PR to write a feature without compensation. Their biggest concern was how much money. Many of them asked what others charged to make sure they were maximizing their blog revenue. It was so mercenary, I finally dropped out. Clearly, I didn't belong there.

It's raining here. It's a cold rain that's supposed to be snow west and north of here. I'm so glad it's just rain. I don't want our bald eagles to get snowed on.

Sandy, I'm totally hooked on the eagle cam!

JW, I love those Bulgari towels! I haven't purchased any new fragrances in months. I'll have to check out the fragrance counter. I'm interested in Kurkdjian's new rose fragrance.

Hi! I'm a big fan of your blog; was really happy to have you back after the long break. I was missing your reviews and posts and everything so much. I have always followed you through the Bloglovin. Guess I'm not considered as your subscriber or how does it work? Is it possible that the ones who unsubscribe are just changing the way to follow your blog?

Charlestongirl said...

Hannah, thank you. I think it's a combination of factors. Some lost intererest, and others read a different way.

I very rarely post a comment but please know that you have many faithful readers and I'm so glad you are back to posting. If people have unsubscribed it's their loss. Your insights have often helped me make beauty purchase decisions and I appreciate it greatly!

I'm still here but I think updates with new posts from your blog only make it to me sometimes but junk mail miraculously always comes through. argh. I'm quiet but I'm always checking for new posts. :) Hope you had a great weekend and don't have snow down there!

Hi CG! I am a subscriber and I won't be unsubscribing from BTIB! I usually read the blog from my favorites lists, as I rarely check my email. I enjoy BTIB and look for it daily, so keep 'em coming! We are so glad you are back!

I am thinking of trying the Chantecaille retinol product. I haven't checked for any reviews on this yet, so any comments from those who have tried would be appreciated.

I love your reviews and other blog posts! I also love your readers and what they have to contribute to your blog posts. I just recommended your blog to my aunt actually. So don't take that personally and perhaps it is a computer glitch of some sort? I know on instagram that sort of thing happens.... just a thought, I am not very computer savvy.
I have been back and forth on trying Tatcha but thanks to your reviews and others comments I am not giving it a try. I have been looking to replace my extremely expensive Chanel eye cream and it sounds like Tatcha may be perfect for me. Any other suggestions are always welcome. I love your skincare posts so please keep them coming.

Hi Anne,

Very late coming to the party but I was gone the weekend. I noticed Nemo didn't answer your question about the Chanel quads so let me speak about the one quad that I purchased: Tissé Particulier. It is the one with the ivory, golden pink, rose gold (stunning!), and cobalt. Yes, it is made in France. The colors are very soft, delicate, and smooth, the texture is even, and the pigment is good given these are intentionally sheer. The cobalt could be richer (Nothing will ever compare to Tom Ford's epic cobalt from two summers ago!), but using a damp brush takes care of the problem and since I use dark colors like that only along my lashes, it works for me :-). The ivory blends out into a gorgeous, almost wet-looking highlight without a strong color presence and I can easily imagine younger women using it for strobing. Applied damp, it is a stunning metallic. The pink is also on the sheer side, but the color is definitely present and, like the ivory, when used "wet" it is quite a beauty. In my estimation, the rose gold is the star of this particular palette and is, as they say, worth the price of admission.

Bloggers who judge everything in terms of pigmentation, seldom like palettes like Particulier that offer such a crystalline look. Because the colors aren't opaque, they tend to label the product as flawed or inferior. It's neither. It's just translucent. To each his own! I love the shimmer and delicacy of the colors because they bring light to my deep set eyes. I don't always use an eye primer because I have dry lids, but I do use a primer with this one and have not had any problems with fallout or fading.

Hi Eileen,

Thank you so much for replying to me. It's very kind of you. You've been very helpful. I've been very tempted by Tisse Dimension but after reading your review I think I'm going to get Tisse Particulier first since I believe that this one is limited edition. Thanks again for letting me know.
