The Friday Forum - April 29

It's dogwood time. Given the rain we had today and what's predicted for the next five days, I doubt the flowers will be with us next week. It's a shame; they are so pretty.

The rain presented a problem for our DC eaglets - and all of us eagle watchers. Apparently, when it rains, fish swim deeper in the river. As a result, the parents were not bringing in food yesterday. The kids went about 38 hours without food, and I was dying! Today, all is well. Mom and Dad have made up for yesterday's miserable rain, cold, and starvation. They looked so sad yesterday. I wanted to deliver a bucket of fresh fish to their tree. The photo above shows Mom sheltering their little faces in pouring rain.

It's time for our Friday Forum and weekend conversation. The Friday Forum has always been an opportunity to share information. Are you using a fabulous product and want to sing its praises? Tell us about it! Did you find a beauty product disappointing? Tell us why! Do you have questions others might be able to answer? We can help! Want to talk about skin care? I'm game. Just use the comments. We have busy weekends and slow ones on the forum. I hope you are ready to share. See you in the comments.

I have a question for you. When I back-purchase spring items, do you want to see them? Or is it old news? For example, I back-purchased a few Tom Ford spring things that were still available.

BTW, those unsubscribing because I send an e-mail update every day can change, if they choose, to a weekly digest. Just wanted to let y'all know.

i am always interested in your back-purchases if they are still available. Not having them available for me to see in a store, it is great getting your input and that of your readers.

I received the EL Bronze Goddess Bronzer from Nordstrom. What I received, however, was a cream, not a gel, and I am wondering if this is the newest or if this is a mistake. Please let me have your thoughts.

Sandra, did they send you something from this page? https://www.esteelauder.com/landing/bronze-goddess

If it's not what you wanted, I think you should return it.

Yes, CG! Thank You! It is going back!

Happy Weekend! I have been trying the new Chanel foundation in different shades ranging from number 20-22. I think 21 is the right one. I like it and it lasts all day on me, especially when I dust the Le Beige powder over it (oddly I really like the powder in the lightest shade). It is supposed to get hot here again. I blinked and missed the lilac blooms which suffered from the early heat we had in April.

I love reading your column! It is the highlight of my day and thank you for posting older and newer items.

Tanja, I had intended to get color matched today, but I was lazy instead. I think I'm a 10 or near.

Our lilacs bloomed early and fried too. Sad!

I don't mind seeing older products so long as they are still available. After all, not all of us rush out and buy everything all at once. If a product is still available, chances are good that it is still on someone's radar or wish list and so it's worth a look. What I don't like are those reviews of products no longer available. You know the kind: "Lipsticks You Can't Have", "Blushers You Can't Have", "Eyeshadows You Can't Have". Well, if I can't have it, why would I want to read about it?

I'm very curious about the Les Beige foundation. I haven't heard a whole lot about it yet. I love Les Beige powder and purchase a fresh #10 every year for spring into summer. It gives me enough color and real-skin glow that I look like I've been outdoors and yet it doesn't look like I'm trying to appear tanned when really I'm not. People seem to either love or hate Les Beige, but I'm firmly in the camp that loves it so I have high hopes for the foundation. I really should make some to visit the Chanel counter. After all, Nordstrom trike points is coming up :-)

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Eileen, I know exactly who wrote those posts. You can't have it! So obnoxious! I don't think anyone reads that blog anymore. It also seems to be dying, like mine once was.

She is one of the most unethical "bloggers" on earth. I'm not being catty...I didn't make this up. She was called by NM staff the fat, smelly blogger (and she was) and banished from all events after she raised hell at one because she had to wait for a world-famous MUA. She criticized the AE in print for wearing slippers to work, without inquiring to learn that the poor woman had broken her foot the night before. Daughter inadvertently rammed a restaurant chair into her foot. Ouch!

Those are all bad memories because she is local. During what she made an incident, she used a L'Oeal photo without credit, and I was told they threatened to sue her. I recall a credit went up in a hurry.

Before I knew her, I was trying to be inclusive and introduced her to " the scene." How embarrassing! I apologized to PR. They were sweet to me and simply said she wasn't their type. Her kind of behavior hurts all bloggers. I'm still annoyed. Can you tell?

That would be L'Oreal. I'm not the best typist at 6:30 am.

I'm going to try to get up the energy to go over to Nordies today. I need some new black AGL shoes, and I could use some Lafayette navy trousers. I may be "forced" to check out Chanel.

Hi Charlesongirl,

I figured you'd know who I meant ;-) I don't think you're being catty at all in raising the point that uncouth behavior reflects poorly on all of you. Since blogging has the concept of sharing at its core, an attitude that conveys belligerence, snarkiness, or gloating, is anathema.

When it comes to posts that have a discontinued product, I don't mind when it is being referenced or swatched to show a comparison to a new product. In that case, it plays a supporting role but is not the star. In fact, it can be quite helpful because many times a reader will have the "old" product and so it puts the new one into perspective vis-a-vis color and finish. Many wonderful bloggers excell at comprising swatches and they are mindful about indicating which comparison products are discontinued. There is none of that "Nah, nah, nah! And you can't have it!" attitude.

Anyway, sorry for this rant, Charlestongirl. Suffice it to say that you should just keep on doing what you do because your blog is warm, welcoming, and gracious and you have some of the most thoughtful and friendly readers I've encountered. Best Things in Beauty sums it up---you, your readers, and the products you feature.

CG and Eileen, I look forward to hearing your opinions on the new Le Beige foundation. I think I need to purchase the Le Beige powder in #10 as I have been using a small sample and I like it a lot. I have had #10 and 40 but 10 seems magic.
