Product Samples

In my short time as a beauty blogger, I have written about products from different lines that I use simultaneously and often. In other words, I don't stick with one line (e.g., La Mer) when I use a suite of products for skin care - or makeup.

I do a fair amount of research, but I also try products impulsively. What ends up in my everyday routine is based on experience and effectiveness. I read everything I can get my hands on, particularly beauty blogs, because what others have to say in the blogs and comments provides great information about new products. However, I usually have to buy to try something new.

This approach does have a few disadvantages, mainly cost. I wish there were a better way to try products than with one-use sample packets. Often you can get hand-made samples from sympathetic counter specialists. I always keep little sample jars in my purse; you never know when you might want to try a five-day supply of something new. Most counters, even those that never seem to have samples (or won't admit it - a pet peeve), like SK-II, will make you one.

Right now, I have my eye on the nice DERMAdoctor Wrinkle Revenge eye cream sample at Sephora. Free with a $25 purchase online, this is a good deal and a great sample. Once you sign up for e-mail from the manufacturer sites, such as Bobbi Brown, Estee Lauder, and Lancome, you receive great freebie offers, often available with small purchases. These deals always beat out the department stores that are not having promotions, and they often include full-sized products.

So, if you know about a great deal, please leave a comment. Later this week, we will have a give-away contest - my way to pay it back to my new readers! And, I'll throw in a few sample jars for the winner.
