Let's Have a Conversation about Fall's Makeup Looks

We haven't had a general conversation, so I think it's time we try one. I realize that we are in the middle of a long holiday weekend, so readership is down while you lie on the beach, read a good book at home, get some exercise in, cook out, or just take care of life management. But there must be someone out there reading blogs! It's time to get chatty.

Let's talk about this month's magazines - Allure in particular, but the fashion mags will do. What do you think of the Fall looks?

I have been reading an Allure feature, "Fall Palette," or "The Seven Best Fall Makeup Colors" online, carefully - over and over again, trying to decide how a normal woman can translate the new looks into a subtle daily look. If you don't have the magazine, you can check out a summary of the feature at this Allure link.

Consider golden peach cheeks. Most of us can pull that off - and some do every day. Move on to deep, dark, wine-stained lips. It gets a little harder. Of course, Allure chose a very dark, very gorgeous model to show us that look, and she looks fabulous. Could you wear bordeaux lips? If so, how would you do it? What would you wear with this lip color? Will you combine any of these looks?

Here are the looks. Let us know what you think in the comments.
  • Matte Gray Shadow
  • Cobalt Eyeliner
  • Golden Peach Blush
  • Bordeaux Lips
  • Pearly Nude Lip Gloss
  • Chocolate and Gold Shadows
  • Cherry Red Lipstick

  2. Hi Helen,

Another early bird! I bought Fast Ride too. I think it's gorgeous because it's sheer. I love it. Glad you do too.

While I'm at it, I also like the gold shadows and think that a slightly darker gold than I have worn for summer will be flattering with the season's clothes.

  3. Hey girlfriend,

Haha.......some of us are kinda bored actually. No money to shop. I read the magazine and liked the natural looks of peachy cheeks and nude gloss. I like tne natural look and don't worry about being trendy.

  4. The natural look will never fail you!

  5. The only trends I see working for me are the Bordeaux and Cherry lips and the Gold + Chocolate eyes...but keep in mind I favor the vampy look :-)

For the Bordeaux lip I like a dark glossy look with dark nails. For the Cherry lip look you can't go wrong wearing it as a stain and a little black eyeliner on your top lid. And I love rich, dark gold shadows

  6. WIll give it all a go except the bordeaux and cherry lips. I think dark, intense lip colors are tough to pull off for most of us. Especially after, um, a certain age. PS Love your blog!

  7. Chloe, you will be right in style. I'm envious. The closest I can get is a sheer dark lip, although I think I could pull off the dark nails. Those dark Chanel nail colors are so cool! Did you ever buy Vamp?

  8. Betty, I am in your camp. I just can't pull off most of the dramatic looks. Even my makeup artist buddies agree. The contrast of the dark colors with my pale skin, hair, and eyes is just too much.

Thanks for your kind words on the blog. I'm having a blast with it! Thanks for reading AND commenting.

  9. No Vamp :-( But I have Vendetta (the sparkly dark purple Chanel) and it's fab! I am actually wearing a vampy color now - La Moss by Butter London. I really like it!

  10. Hey, Chloe, thanks. I just learned something! I didn't know La Moss, so I looked it up. Beautiful color - and the products sound nice too! No formaldehyde, no toluene, no DBP. And named after a fashion icon...cool!

  11. Really love the golden peach blushes. They do tend to work with most skin tones and give a sun-kissed glow that fades in fall and winter. Another trend we’ve noticed for fall is matte nail polishes. Have you tried any? Great post and blog!

  12. Hi, Linda!

That's so nice of you...thank you!

I agree: who can't wear those beautiful golden peach blushers? I used to think I couldn't because my skin tone is cool, but I was convinced by my favorite makeup artist that they balance and warm me and look great, actually.

I need to find someone who is a nail polish addict to help me with a guest posting on the new nail polishes. Anyone game?
