The Friday Forum - September 4

Happy Labor Day weekend! Shown here is a close-up of the lovely allium, a prolific bloomer at this time of year. I love massed white flowers, and this one's perfect for a bank of white - particularly appealing in the early morning and early evening.

I hope all of you are safe this weekend, as the hurricane moves up the East Coast. While its winds appear to be diminishing, it could strengthen, stall - who knows what. I hope all of you are out of harm's way.

I'm not sure what's on my weekend agenda, beyond relaxing. At some point, I'm sure I'll go to a beauty department. You couldn't keep me away! What I really need to do - stay home and tidy up - seems boring as I write this.

It's time for The Friday Forum! We use The Friday Forum to share information. Are you using a fabulous product and want to sing its praises? Did you find a beauty product disappointing? Do you have a question others might be able to answer? Want to talk about skin care? Just use the comments. Don't be shy.

We have busy weekends and slow ones on the forum. I'm happy if even one reader stops by. I'm expecting a slow holiday weekend, so please drop by, leave a comment, and say hello - even if you don't have a comment on beauty products. In the Fabulous Felines comments, I promised I would post a photo of Charlie this weekend. He thinks that alone should entice you to stop by. Savannah continues to be annoyed by his attention-grabbing antics.

Thanks for reading Best Things in Beauty! Got anything you want to talk about?

Update 9/4: I just put some great weekend shopping deals in the comments.

  1. Happy weekend! Savannah and Charlie sound like such characters! My in-laws are visiting and my pup has been an attention-seeking lunatic. It's funny how animals behave:)

Hoping to do some beauty shopping this weekend, it's going to be a nice cool weekend in Chicago. Hope Earl doesn't douse DC with too much rain this weekend -- stay dry!

  2. Hi Laurie! Aren't they a hoot? Better an attention hog than a fear-cat or fear-dog. Running to hide under the bed isn't very social, but I had a lot of kitties in my life who did just that.

We got no rain - not a drop. I would have "killed" for an hour or two of steady rain on my garden. Enjoy your weather - and the shopping. I'm trying to decide where my shopping quests will take me.

    Happy Weekend!

  3. On Thursday I braved the morning traffic on the freeway to make the trip to Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills where I then braved the crowd to see Edward Bess. There was an interesting assortment of people there, all oohing and aahing over EB purchases past and present. And, the SAs were very well prepared for us. Bergdorf had shared our EB purchasing information with Neiman's so the cheerful and genial SAs who helped us were able to make some good suggestions about other things we might like. Very slick--but in a good way.

Thursday was day two, and many things were already sold out when I arrived, but I was able to test everything that I was interested in and had the pleasure of being color matched for foundation by Edward. I was one happy camper and left after selecting the items I wanted delivered during Neiman's annual beauty event which begins September 9. I got the compact rouge in Love Affair, the new foundation in Light, and the lip glosses in Endless Love and Love Always.

As for Edward, what can I say? You can take the gentleman out of the South, but you can't take the South out of the gentleman! Gracious, charming, kind, and enthusiastic. There's nothing blasé about him. He's loving what he's doing and it's infectious :-)

As helpful and as good as the lovely Bergdorf ladies were, I'm thrilled to be able to actually go now to the EB counter and see things in person. I think he'll do very well here.

  4. Eileen,

I am so envious! I would love to be able to meet Edward and play with all the colors in person. I'm not surprised that the shades started to sell out. Our department stores never seem prepared for blockbuster sales anymore (all due to "inventory control").

How about writing a guest post on the foundation? I don't plan to try it because powder foundations are not my favorites. I would love to share your thoughts with BTiB readers!

I hope you have a great weekend. Too bad you left your purchases there for Beauty Week. I have to purchase more then - I couldn't wait. :)

Isn't Love Affair a true love? I may need two.

  5. Recently I ordered Laura Mercier's Creme de Pistache Body Souffle. The reviews were positive and I had used her wonderful souffles before. It happened to arrive at 7:30 p.m. on a 99-degree Boulder (CO) day, so it had probably been in the heat on the truck for over eight hours. Bursting with enthusiasm, I opened it, only to be put off by a seemingly rancid smell that I just could not stomach - - never even tried it and returned it promptly.

While trying to think of a fresh-smelling replacement, I remembered the great lemon products of the C. O. Bigelow Company and hurried out to buy their Lemon Body Cream. Oooh, what a heavenly fragrance that lemon provides! It surely makes my morning shower so much more wonderful!

AND - - cats by computers?? - - my Poppy jumped up on my keyboard and the space bar popped off (Poppy popped!); have not been able to get it back on. Why could she not have been like that sweet little cat on the tv ad who treads ever so lightly over the keys??

Can hardly wait to see pics of your C-cat! Happy holiday!

  6. Leigh, that's interesting. Even though I love nutty fragrances, I hate Creme de Pistache Body Souffle. There is something in it that is awful - it wasn't the transit. And it's definitely not the right scent for someone looking for citrus!

I keep getting samples of Laura Mercier's Pistache in GWPs - and I keep giving them away. She should stick to concealer.

Charlie is a muscular boy, and he does type when he walks across the keyboard, but so far, no keys popping off! Good thing keyboards are cheap. :)

Today we start to convince him to pose. Maybe smile too. With his blue eyes open and his gorgeous face on full display.

    Happy Weekend!
