The Friday Forum - October 29

Halloween gives us an opportunity to use makeup to become an entirely new person - a creative expression of the abnormal, bizarre, or even beautiful. M∙A∙C excels when it comes to providing ideas and the theatrical shades you'll need to create your own fantasy. The photo here came from a M∙A∙C look for Halloween, published a few years ago. Becoming Hibiscus Woman is Halloween fun I could enjoy!

As I look back, I'm not sure why this week was crazy-busy. There's a lot going on at my house. I still haven't been able to get Charlie's screened porch fixed, so he's become insufferable as he walks around bemoaning the fact that he's grounded to the confines of a house without birds, squirrels, and mice to watch. I'm trying to clean in my spare time, and there's precious little of that. Work has been frantic-busy, distinguished from normal-busy by my Type A desire to have no backlogs. This will be a welcome weekend for rest. I'm looking forward to getting blog photos too, since my daylight hours after work are waning, soon to disappear entirely.

It's still Friday, though, so it's time for The Friday Forum. We use the forum to share information and chat. Are you using a fabulous product and want to sing its praises? Did you find a beauty product disappointing? Do you have a question others might be able to answer? Want to talk about skin care? Just use the comments. Don't be shy. Just make sure to ask any question you might have over the weekend. By Monday, most readers have moved on.

We have busy weekends and slow ones on the forum. Last week, we had a great exchange. I'm always happy if even one reader stops by. Leave a comment, and say hello - even if you don't want to comment on beauty products. As I always do, I'll leave news of some great beauty offers (great, not just good) in the comments of this post. If you want to know where to find nice gifts with purchase, free shipping, and other deals this weekend, make sure to check the comments.

Thanks for reading Best Things in Beauty! Got anything you want to talk about? Are you dressing up for a Halloween party?

P.S. I got an unsubscribe notice today - not unusual. I never know why people subscribe or unsubscribe. I'd love to know if I'm doing something that doesn't capture your interest - ever. Fortunately, I get more subscription hello's than bye-bye's. By the way, you have to verify your e-mail subscription with Google. If you sign up, the link Google will send you is legit. Click on it, and you will be verified. Even though it's an extra step, it's for everyone's protection. An amazing number of people subscribe, but never verify (small, but still amazing to me). I assume those subscribers never get my e-mails because they didn't verify.

  1. Ok. I need to tell everyone about a product that I am obsessed with - it is a skin care product that I tried ONE sample of and was hooked. It is called "Revive," line developed by Dr. Jeffrey Brown, a plastic surgeon. He used Nobel Prize-Winning technology, Epidermal Growth Factor or EGF, under a grant from the US Government, to aid in the treatment of burn victims. The result is Revive Moisturizing Renewal Cream - which is a light souffle-like cream, citrus scented, that glides over the skin, is absobed, and the next morning you look five years younger. Seriously. The slogan of Revive is "Get the Glow" and after you use this cream for two weeks, you will. Ingredients are, besides the EGF, which dramatically increases cell renewal, are a bit of glycolic acid, powerful antioxidants, and hydrators - the result being moist, pink, glowing and smooth skin - no lie!!!
Revive is available at Neiman Marcus and Saks - and a Revive facial is being offered at Nieman Marcus Tyson's on November 6 - an indulgence I am taking, as I truly believe in the skin care. It is AMAZING. I give samples of it to customers daily and they ALWAYS come back to get it. I am sure the product specialist would give you a sample, just to get you hooked! ;)

  2. I just stopped by to say "hi" and that I'd bought some of the new MAC Tartan lip colors today. But what a surprise to hear from Miss Brahms about a product that I am looking into - Revive.

I am using samples of the lip and perioral treatment, but haven't had the chance to try the serum(s). So great to have her testimonial! If it has no parabens, I'll give it a try.

Hugs to the fur cats - - Soon, Charlie, you'll have your amusement back!

  3. Hi Miss Brahms!

I have a friend who was converted to Revive long ago. I don't know why I resisted all these years, but now that I too have samples, I am likely to become a convert. Stay tuned.

If you love it that much, sounds like you should become a Revive Product Specialist, spreading the word.

Neiman Marcus is having so many cool events this fall, I'll be spending a lot of time there. Hope to run into you!

  4. Hi Leigh!

Charlie has an appointment with a handyman to have his porch fixed next Tuesday, so the weekend is going to be "interesting." "Let Me Out" must have been written by a cat who was barred from the porch. Wee-ou.

What did you get from Tartan? I still haven't bought a single item. When I got MAC's e-mail, I went on their Web site and found a few items already sold out. I selected one or two pretty things, but as soon as I tried to buy a sold-out item, I lost interest and closed the window. MAC needs to learn what a turn-off that is.

  5. I know all too well about MAC's sell-outs! I'm thinking, is it the people on the east coast getting everything first, or what?

I got the cute plaid pan with a gloss and two colors - - am trying it today. The other things are neat - - but, honestly, I'm running out of room and have all the colors in all the brands. A future trip to Europe will start making me carefully choose about what I buy!

Looking at ReVive, I see it contains parabens - - will have to think about that some more. There are certainly enough good products out there to choose from!

  6. Leigh, I don't worry about parabens as much as others - IF THEIR CONCENTRATIONS ARE VERY LOW. Maybe I should. I agree totally about good products from which to choose. I guess we have to use what works for us. I'm going to read my La Mer labels!

I will ask about the Revive formulations. I have an appt. for a facial with them next weekend.

I didn't see a combo set on the MAC Web site. Did you get it from them? Let us know! I really can't explain the SO phenomenon. I have decided it's hysteria (lemmings?). I can't deal with it. Fortunately, I'm old enough to know that no makeup product will radically change my feelings of self-worth. :)

  7. C-girl-

It's the Happily Ever After Lip Kit($22.50) and I just saw it on the MAC site, still available. I wore the nude-ish color today and it was just OK - - meh!! (I hadn't heard "meh", either!) I LOVE the little plaid box it's in!

And, parabens I could probably tolerate if they're in a wash-off product, but I don't want it on my face all day or night. I had a pre-cancerous spot on my face removed several years ago and just won't take any chances. Had to have plastic surgery to fill the hole it left - - not fun!

    Have a great rest-of-your-weekend, and BTW, I was sent two 'Happy Halloween' cards by friends -- - -?? - - - I just don't get it either!!

  8. Hello all! I wanted to share that I recently got back into makeup. Through the years I have been a brand focus kinda person - all Stila, all BB, all BM, etc. then I kinda lost all interest. Now I wakeup at 3:30 am so I can leave my house by 5:00 looking good! And I have let my brand focus fall by the wayside, I am ready to try everything. I just found this blog this week (via Beauty Look Book) and I am already in love! Thanks for all the new lemmings.

  9. Hello, jbrobeck!

Glad to hear you've rekindled the addiction. :)

Don't you think that makeup keeps getting better and better? I think that's why we have to sample from all the brands. There are so many fab ones!

  10. It definitely gets better. I just picked up my first Tarte and Too Faced. I love to experiment with eyeshadow. I am pretty loyal to base though. Right now I am MAC and LM, but I am dying to try Chanel and Nars Sheer Glow.

  11. For anyone that would like to try Revive, the Tysons location just got in some fantastic little travel sets containing a 1 oz size of the Moisturizing Renewal Cream, the Fermatif neck cream, Sensitif Day cream SPF 15, and the Lip and Perioral Renewal cream, in an Artbox travel bag designed by artist Charley Harper....but I am sure Anna Befanis, product specialist for Revive Tysons, will give you some samples! ;)
Also, this Saturday, should you happen to be in the area, book a facial! It is free and you will love the results....i guarantee it!

  12. For anyone who didn't figure it out, Miss Brahms works in beauty at Neiman Marcus. That's the store she means, not a free-standing Revive store. Miss Brahms is a hard-core Revive convert, and she KNOWS her skin care. When she tells me something is good, I listen.
