The Friday Forum - November 19

Isn't Stella cute? My call for pet photos got us this darling photo of Stella, courtesy of Lisa. You can click on Stella's photo to enlarge it. Stella the boxer sleeps all curled up like a cat. Isn't she darling? Lisa says Stella weighs 50 pounds and is as good an escape artist as Charlie.

Stella managed to escape from her all-metal kennel! She used her mouth to pull the bottom of the metal kennel up about two inches and then somehow squeezed herself through to escape while her family was at a baseball game. Luckily she is not a chewer and didn't destroy anything in the house when she was on the lam (She didn't have time - I'll bet that escape took hours!). It was all about sleeping on the sofa, the brass ring for Stella! Looks like she proved herself and now sleeps on the sofa whenever she wants.

Charlie has been "grounded" all week while I have waited for the handyman to come back - yet again - to replace another porch screen panel. He's not a happy boy. Ever try to relax after work with a mouthy cat screaming "with urgency" that he needs to go to the porch to look for mice?

I haven't been able to get swatch photos all week, and I ran through last weekend's photos by Tuesday. It's getting dark so early. By the time I get home from work, there's no sunlight left to grab. This will be a busy weekend as I overwork my left arm. I have plenty to show you. I'm also excited about the pending arrival of the new Edward Bess colors. They are going to ring them for me at Bergdorf Goodman when the gift card event starts next weekend so that I'll get a $25 discount. You might want to call now if you are interested. Give Susan or Jennifer a call at (212) 872-8826.

Tonight, I'm going to pop in on a Jo Malone event (cocktails, nibbles, good company, and fragrance) at Neiman Marcus at Tysons Galleria. The event starts at 6:00, and DC-area gals are welcome to join me there. If you can't go, there will be another opportunity in December. If you are interested, please call the Jo Malone counter at (703) 761-1600 to tell them you are coming.

It's time for The Friday Forum. We use the forum to share information and chat. Are you using a fabulous product and want to sing its praises? Did you find a beauty product disappointing? Do you have a question others might be able to answer? Want to talk about skin care? Just use the comments. Don't be shy. Just make sure to ask any question you might have over the weekend. By Monday, most readers have moved on.

We have busy weekends and slow ones on the forum. I'm always happy if even one reader stops by. Leave a comment, and say hello - even if you don't want to comment on beauty products. As I always do, I'll leave news of some great beauty offers (great, not just good) in the comments of this post. If you want to know where to find nice gifts with purchase, free shipping, and other deals this weekend, make sure to check the comments.

Thanks for reading Best Things in Beauty! Got anything you want to talk about? Want to send a cute pet photo?

  1. Good Friday to you all! My little Westie Jack McCall loves frolicking in the abundance of oak leaves in my back yard this time of year.
What am I excited about this week? Well, I have a new favorite mascara - Lancome Hypnose Drama. If you like a POW! of volume, rendering your lashes curled up and intensely volumized, this mascara's for you. Looking at myself in the mirror last night, I understand why the Lancome people used the word "Hypnose." I hypnotized myself!
The store that I work in, Neiman Marcus Tysons Galleria, is gearing up for the big GWP Scent Event, featuring a silver snakeskin clutch packed with high-end fragrance samples like Narciso Rodriguez, Acqua DiParma, Prada, and many more - just come in from November 21-28 and make any $85 beauty purchase, and it is yours. Each line is also featuring it's own GWP as well - and all of the darling holiday gifts and stocking stuffers are out to paw through as well!
I love this streak of dry crisp weather we are having - it is fantastic hair weather. I'm having a good hair week! See you later Charlestongirl, and thanks for providing a fantastic forum for us to rave about what makes us happy! :)

  2. Happy Friday! I have quite a few new items this week, as DH took me to Sephora on a shopping spree for our 7th wedding anniversary! I picked up a few Nars shadows and Smashbox gift sets. I also received my prize from you, the Giorgio Armani Maestro and all the goodies! I used the eyeliner this morning, it was lovely!

Speaking of eyeliner, I recently became adept at lining my waterline, but haven't found an eyeliner that works for me! I had high hopes for the GA,it worked on my upper waterline but not the lower. Any suggestions? I would prefer a pencil over a cream or gel. I would prefer a brand carried by Nordstrom, Sephora, or Beauty.com

    THANKS LADIES!

  3. The days have just flown by this week. Like many of you, I've been getting ready for Turkey Day. The best part of all, though, was readying my youngest son's bedroom for his all too brief holiday visit. He's a third year law student in San Diego, but home is about 200 miles north of that, so we don't have him in residence very often. Just the thought of him being under our roof for a few days makes me grin ear to ear :-)

Stella is gorgeous! What a sleeping beauty she is. And that couch was made for her--they match! She just wanted
to snuggle down and be cozy surrounded by the familiar scents of her family. Look at that pretty girl. She's peace and contentment personified.

Hi Ibrobeck. Le Crayon Khôl by Chanel is an excellent one for the waterline as is the waterproof pencil by Make Up Forever. It's one of the top rated liners and it comes in a huge selection of colors if you're in the mood to be daring. Urban Decay is another good one that comes in lots of colors. MUF and UD are both available from Sephora. Prepare to be dazzled by choices! As for the Chanel, it comes in a limited, more conservative, color selection, but then it's not intended for fickle teens and hip twenty-somethings. For evening, I love Le Crayon Khôl in Blanc on the lower waterline. It's a soft pearl white rather than a chalk white. It's much more subtle than the MUF and UD and it doesn't shout "White!".

If I don't comment again, here's wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. I hope that this year and next brings you all much joy and happiness.

  4. Awwwwwww you were so nice to post the picture of Stella! We have just come home from a long walk, it's a beautiful morning in Houston and she is curled up in her favorite chair catching the sun as it streams through the window. She is a sweet girl and has adjusted so well to our family since we adopted her 2 weeks ago!

I have been using Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Volume shampoo and conditioner on my fine, highlighted, blond hair. Have noticed my hair is much softer and has more volume, so far I really like this product.

    Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

  6. Hi everyone!

It was another crazy-busy day at work. They have all seemed that way for the last month or so. It looks like everyone got answers! Love it!

Miss Brahms, thanks for the info about the fragrance event. Every Neiman Marcus is participating, so anyone with an NM nearby can take advantage of the GWP. Lancome, huh? You're joining the legions of women who swear by Lancome mascara. I like it, but prefer my drug store price [wink].

Hi JBrobeck! Looks like Eileen gave you some great suggestions. I get asked that waterline question a lot, and I find that some women are so teary-eyed, nothing will stay on their lower waterline. Even the most tenacious liners run off.

Hi Eileen, I hope you have fun while your student son is home. Thanks for taking care of the liner question! I hope you and everyone here has a great Thanksgiving. I ordered the turkey dinner today from a local (and famous) deli that has outstanding food. I'm not up for cooking this year. :)

Lisa, Stella is a star! Give her a belly rub from all of us. I like Alterna products. Now you make me want to try that one. I love volumizing products that don't weigh my hair down (or coat it with muck). :)

Hi Abby, you and me both. I want to try the MUFE liners now. That's a line I haven't fully explored.

To everyone who may not be "back" to visit next week, I hope you have a glorious Thanksgiving, time to spend with those you love, eating (isn't that a highlight?) and enjoying a family and friends day!

Charlie's handyman didn't show up today, and he is NOT happy. Neither am I. I am not sure how Tuesday stretched beyond Friday. My mouthy cat is going to be hard to live with this weekend. :)
