Neiman Marcus Beauty Event for Spring 2011

It's time for Neiman Marcus Beauty Event! From tomorrow, February 24, through Sunday, March 6, in stores and online, you will receive a tote with a few samples inside with every purchase of $100 or more in the beauty department (cosmetics and fragrance). Additionally, most of the brands have gift with purchase specials. Depending on how much you spend with the brand, you may get a nice sample set too.

The GWPs range, in my humble opinion, from fantastic to ho-hum. I wouldn't spend $300 for something I didn't need just to get a few samples. On the other hand, if you are interested in trying something that is in the GWP, you should go for it!

This is the perfect time to visit Neiman Marcus if you have one in your area. The product specialists and sales associates are ready to help you. If you live near the Neiman Marcus at Mazza Gallerie, I suggest you go see Sunny Choi Noble, a sales associate who can steer you to all the best product specialists. If you live near Tysons Galleria, please visit with Kathy Shoreman, who will do the same. Both are knowledgeable and will not try to sell you something that's not right for you. I love them. You can call Sunny at (202) 966-9700, ext 2265. You can call Kathy at (703) 761-1600, ext 3282.

If I try to name all my favorite product specialists at the two stores, I know I will forget someone. If there's a brand that interests you, just leave a comment, and I will recommend a contact for you. Remember, if you don't have a local Neiman Marcus, the gals in the DC area can still help you. Give them a call.

  1. I wish they had more realistic amounts for the GWP. Most aren't worth spending the money to get them. Plus the contents of the bag gets skimpier and skimpier every time. This time there's one fragrance sample vial, Fekkai packets, 2 small Kate Somerville packets, some CdP cotton squares and a sample of Kiehl's Rosa Artica cream.

  2. Yep. Not like they used to be.

You really need to concentrate on the brand GWPs, not the tote with a handful (a small handful) of samples.

  3. I do most of my cosmetic shopping at Nordstrom because the store in Thousand Oaks has a wonderful, friendly, genuinely nice bunch of SA's. But, for the things that Nordstrom doesn't carry, I always try to wait for the Beauty Events at Neiman Marcus. I find that there are often a few extra goodies tossed in by the brands that I am purchasing. For example, if I'm purchasing CdP, there will usually be some samples added. As for the GWPs this year, meh! The gifts are nice, but the amount you have to spend is absurd.

So, what did I get? I got the new CdP eye shadow quad #207 and the Extra Silky lipsticks #105 (repurchase) and the new #129. I also repurchased several items: Kanebo Sensai eye shadow base (the best ever for those of us with dry skin), Edward Bess eyeshadow in Nude (my third one!), and La Prairie lipstick in Bronze Rose (an exceptional grown-up color). I also got a lot of extra samples compliments of the local counters. But, alas, no GWPs. I'm very happy with my purchases, though, and that's what counts. I haven't been swayed by a GWP in a very long time.

  4. Hi Eileen!

I have the list of GWPs here, and there is great variability in them. Some are fabulous, like Bobbi Brown and Fresh. Others are silly little sample collections. I used to stretch to get GWPs, but finally learned that you can often get samples just by asking.

LMdB has a nice one too. Chantecaille's is sample-filled, but the samples are a nice size. There were about seven this time I found desirable.

Since the recession started, the totes from NM have become an afterthought. Funny how many women scheme to get them when they aren't exciting. Ahhh...the allure of free stuff!

Sure wish our Nordies or NMs had Edward Bess!
