Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Rose Platine for Summer 2011

Chanel introduced an inspiring waterproof eyeliner for summer. When I first saw a swatch photo of Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Rose Platine ($29), I wasn't sold. Kathy Shoreman had applied the liner swatch heavily for the photo, and, it appeared to have too much glimmer for my taste. Silly me! When I got my hands on this beauty, I was thrilled. I had to have it.

Chanel describes its waterproof, smudge-proof eyeliner as delivering long-lasting definition with a twist of the wrist: Color winds up when you need it, winds down when you don't. The gentle, soft, silicone-enriched formula delivers smooth, even lining. A built-in sharpener at the opposite end detaches for quick refreshes of the tip.

Two talented women, the Chanel representative, Janine Greenberg, and Kathy Shoreman, at Neiman Marcus Tysons Galleria suggested wearing Rose Platine as a fabulous liner under the lower lashes. Were they right!

The photo at right, taken in full sun, shows the shade well. It's a shimmering - but not too shiny - pencil. Remember, sunshine adds its own dose of shimmer to my skin. The name of Rose Platine would lead me to believe the color is a platinum rose. It does not appear to be rose in the tube or on my skin. I'm not sure how its name was derived. It's taupe.

Makeup artists often select a shadow to gently line my eyes on the outer corner under the lower lashes. That's how I've been wearing Rose Platine. It's a knockout. It's not a "look at me" shade. It's a "look at her eyes" shade. It has just enough star power to add definition and a neutral shade that flatters my eye color. It's love!

It's hard to wax poetic about an eyeliner. How much can one say? This one's extremely pretty and worthy of a look-see. You can find it at any Chanel counter. I bought mine at Neiman Marcus.

  3. Well you convinced me it was "love" not "like", and I have to agree! The eyeliner is my favorite item from the collection.

  5. The swatch I saw of this liner got me salivating because it appeared to be taupe, but I was confused by the name. I thought maybe my monitor wasn't displaying the color right. So I'm glad I went to a counter anyway to see it because I fell in love! Can't wait to play with it!

  6. Ah! "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." And so, Rose Platine is actually taupe.

I was originally attracted to it because of its name. I thought it would be an icy rose beige that would be beautiful with my Lancôme Taupe Craze palette. When I actually saw it, I was very surprised but pleasantly so. I added it to my bag of treats: Lilium quad, rose blush/bronzer, and all three glosses--yes, I'm a sucker for Glossimer :-) It looks lovely with Taupe Craze and with Guerlain's Écran 6 Couleurs in Rue de Passy (warm, rose beige palette from the winter collection).

In truth, I was really totally uninspired by the promo picks for this collection. It seemed to have a very young and girlish charm that would look silly on a woman of my age. When I actually saw the collection; however, I was immediately taken by its beauty and womanly charm. Well, done Chanel! Lagerfeld and Philips has been a match made in cosmetic heaven.

  7. Since this is waterproof, is it waterline safe? I feel like this would be great at brightening up the eye.

  8. Hi Kellinicole,

I've used Chanel's waterproof eyeliners on my waterline for years without any problems. The Chanel MA's put it on customs' waterlines all the time, too, so it's obviously safe.

  9. Waterproof AND long lasting? I also need this! Thanks for sharing!

  10. Hey there, Amy, Eileen, and Kellinicole,

Just got back from work and can turn to the blog!

Eileen and Amy, you are right, it's wow-worthy! I agree, Eileen, as do many great bloggers - this collection is actually fabulous. I got the Chanel promo e-mail today. Have to go read it. It's a bit late for me since I already bought everything I wanted. :)

Kellinicole, the Chanel rep actually suggested using this pencil on the waterline to cover red. I suspect it's perfectly safe. It does have vitamin C in it. If you know you are sensitive to vitamin C, or you feel a stinging, just remove it. Otherwise, it should be fine.

  11. Hello! I had the same expectation of Rose Platine, I expected it to be a rosy-bronzey mixture but I feel like it is a pencil version of MAC's SMoke and Diamonds eyeshadow... I have been wearing it on my lower lashline with smokey eyes and love it so far! :)

  12. Hi Lakshmi!

Sounds like we've all discovered a secret. :) Wear it below the lower lashes!

  13. So right you are, Reene! Taupe. Chanel could have scored even bigger with a better name.

  14. I. Love. This. Eyeliner.
Seriously gorgeous! Your swatch is definitely spot on. Along with your description. I thought it was going to be pinky/bronzey (which is a no-no for my "allergy eyes") but I swatched it last Friday and immediately bought it. (along with the rose bronzer and all 3 glossimers)
Eileen, I think you're my makeup twin. LOL!
I'm loving Chanel summer so far. Now let's bring on the summer weather.

  15. Thanks, Soni! You two gals should get together; you live in the same state. :) What a shopping trip that would be!

A little summer weather would be much appreciated right now. None is predicted here.

  16. I cannot.believe.that.swatch. Absolutely stunning. Like so many others here, I need one now! I wonder if Chanel would give us a discount if we bought in bulk? lol.

  17. Laughing at the bulk discount idea, Lovethescents. Enjoy the liner! :)

  18. I totally agree, I don't generally wear eyeliner, even though every MUA tries to convince me to. I love all of the colors in the Summer quad and I bought the eyeliner too. It's just gorgeous, I love the way it makes my eyes look!

  19. I can't wait to receive this eyeliner! I don't even use pencil liners but all the rave reviews on this made me so intrigued. Can't wait to see if it live up to the hype!

  20. Hi Beth and PerilouslyPale!

This liner is so good for my pale face, I may need to hoard it. I don't wear it over my top lashes, just below. :) So perfect!
