Chanel Ombres Tissées Iridescent Effects Eyes in Beiges from Aquarelles de Chanel Collection
After much anticipation, I got my hands on a couple of pieces from Chanel's Aquarelles de Chanel Collection, which arrived at Neiman Marcus Tysons Galleria today. Chanel Ombres Tissées Iridescent Effects Eyes in Beiges ($75) was on my wish list, so I took a few photos of the compact in the store and then started swatching.
The highlighting powder shades in the compact are very light. On top of that, it's very dark outside because it has rained on and off all day. I couldn't get decent swatch photos in the store, but I got "as good as it gets" when I got home.
To show you that you can use all three shades blended as a facial highlighter, I applied the powder with a sponge-tipped applicator and ran the applicator across all three shades in the compact, light beige, gold, and pink. You will see that this powder isn't much darker, when blended, than my fair skin tone.
The shades apply with a lot of sparkle. I am not sure yet whether that sparkle will disappear once the top layer of the compact is worn off. Early indications (from use) is that it is an overspray and that the sparkles may thin out or disappear over time. When I used the powder for the first time, swiping across it with a sponge and brush in the store, I had powder particles flying everywhere. It settled down a bit after I wore through part of the top layer.
Then I swatched the colors individually. They are all highlighting shades with very subtle color. I'm not sure that I could get great swatch photos on a sunny day. On my arm at right, the light beige shade is shown at the top, the gold in the middle, and the pink at the bottom. They will all light up your look, but without imparting a lot of color. I'm sorry for the grey tones of my photos that resulted from the heavy cloud cover. It was the best I could do today, and I knew you wanted to see the collection's centerpiece. I'll update this feature tomorrow if I can get better photos in sunshine.
How will Ombres Tissées Iridescent Effects Eyes in Beiges look on your skin and eyelids? If you have fair skin, as I do, the shade(s) will give you an iridescent glow. As skin tones darken (from mine), I believe Ombres Tissées in Beiges will offer a more obvious highlighting effect and possibly more color. No testers arrived, and the store does not expect to receive them with this collection, so you'll have to buy on faith.
Ombres Tissées in Beiges was billed as a pink-peach highlighter created for Chanel's Spring/Summer 2011 Haute Couture Show. Peter Philips created several new, limited-edition pieces and reached back into Chanel's beautiful line for others. The collection arrived at the store, with this compact named Iridescent Effects Eyes. I think it's a multipurpose product, although I do worry about little sparkles falling in my eyes if I use the shades as highlighting eye shadows.
In addition to this compact, the store received the two Joues Contraste blushes (Pink Cloud and Rose Pétale), Rouge Coco Shine in the Royallieu, and Ombre Essentielle in Gris Exquis. I can't tell you whether Les Vernis in Tendress arrived. We lost track of it in the excitement of the makeup!
Update 8/4: As I expected, my swatch photo in sun wasn't much better. This morning, the sun has flirted with us, making a few quick appearances. I applied each shade extremely heavily with a sponge-tipped applicator to try to show you the colors. This is the result.

I got mine today. It looks like sparkles will get away after top layer is done.
ReplyDeleteAre you going to review/swatch the Pink Cloud blush? Also, the lovely eyeshadow. I don't want to buy until I know they are right for my fair skin with rosy tones, blue eyes, blonde hair, especially the blush. It may be too light. Can't wait to see them on your blog!
ReplyDeleteI think that's right, Sikkim. How do you like it?
ReplyDeleteSorry you had to read this before I finished editing. :) I hit the publish button before I finished - one of those oops moves - and I let it stay up, knowing I could finish quickly.
Hi Nemo,
ReplyDeletePink Cloud is so light, it won't show up on my skin. I couldn't buy it knowing it would basically be a pink-toned face powder, not a blush. Rose Pétale is very pretty, but I didn't need it because I'm concentrating on fall colors now.
I will feature the gorgeous grey eye shadow tomorrow.
Dear Charlestongirl: Thank you for your candor. I will not buy the blush, but boy oh boy do I want that shadow. Can you give us the name and telephone number of your sales person at NM? Many thanks.
ReplyDeletewould you happen to have a price for this beauty?
ReplyDeleteThis one looks gorgeous! I am very picky about my highlighters and this one seems to be right up my alley! Lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteNemo,
ReplyDeleteKathy Shoreman at 703-761-1600, ext. 3282. Let me have her call you this afternoon. She just left the store, but I can have her call you. Just e-mail a phone number to me at bestthingsinbeauty@gmail.com, and I will call her cell phone now for you. She can take care of you on her cell.
If you want to call the store, ask for the Chanel counter at the phone number above, and ask for Janine Greenberg. She will ring it for Kathy if you ask. She's a sweetie.
Hi Zeynep,
ReplyDeleteOops, I just added it. $75.
Sorry! Haste makes for all kinds of issues. :)
Hi Flyavsted!
ReplyDeleteIs any store in your country getting it? Or is it online there? Maybe at a Chanel Web site?
Nemo,
ReplyDeleteI just deleted your comment. I didn't want your info to be on the blog. It's private, after all! I have passed it along to Kathy, and she will contact you.
Thanks for your sweet reminder about Wee Storm. She was a good kitty.
I'm glad you are well and feeling great now!
You simply rock! Thank you for going through all the troubles to post pictures and swatches for us. With the holiday collection and the eye (?) collection coming soon, I will be passing on this altogether. The design is gorgeous but I'm not much of a highlighter gal, and your description of Pink Cloud shows it's a definite skip as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kristi!
ReplyDeleteI had high hopes for Pink Cloud, but when I saw it I realized I already have two lovely Armani ones in the same basic shade.
I had high hopes of this product but with the lack of pigmentation I won't be going to all the trouble of hunting it down. Thanks for the photo though, it makes me happy just to look at it!
ReplyDeleteHi PinkRibbons,
ReplyDeleteIt will probably look better on you than it does on me. I was very excited too, but now that I have it? Hmmm...
I do love the eye shadow!
I hope I haven't turned off people who may love it, just because my photos were dark and the highlighting powder is light.
Hi. Thanks for the review and for the phone number for Kathy Shoreman. I ordered this collection as well as some Laura Mercier.I just received my Laura Mercier and she included so many samples and a great gwp. She was so helpful and friendly. While my wallet hates you, I am grateful that you included her contact info. I see a long and expensive relationship.
ReplyDeleteDo I need *another* highlighter? No. Will I pick this one up? You better believe it! Thanks for pointing out (in a previous comment) that the blushes are faint - I don't have a counter near me to swatch anything so your reviews/feedback are SO appreciated. Can't wait to read more... xoLiz
ReplyDeleteThanks, Liz! I didn't "need" another highlighter either. Funny word. Who really needs a lot of makeup? It makes us happy, right?
ReplyDeleteOnly Pink Cloud is faint. The other has very nice color! It will go online at chanel.com very soon. Check it out there.
The Rouge Coco Shine in the collecfion looks like clear gloss on me. I wanted it, but didn't need it. There goes that word again!
Thanks for the info...also, this is a Neiman's exclusive right?
ReplyDeleteIt's not exclusive to NM. Chanel.com will have it available very soon. I don't know if other department stores will get it.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite interested in the highlighter also! Once again, (sorry) could you please provide the contact name at the NM store you purchased yours from?
ReplyDeleteMuch thanks!!!
Hi Michelle,

Have fun!
Just got my Ombres Tissees and the Pink Cloud! I haven't had a chance to apply the eyeshadow yet, but used my blusher! I am SO thrilled with the color! So very "Audrey Hepburn" lit from within, natural on my pale skin! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your special contact in Neiman Marcus - Kathy Shorman! She is so friendly and helpful!
Hi Lena!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you got to meet/work with Kathy! She really is a superstar at that store (or anywhere). She knows way more than most of the product specialists.
