Sneak Peek: Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Swatches
Next month (or so it's scheduled), Chanel will launch a new lipstick. Rouge Allure Velvet will cost $32 and offer a velvet finish with pearl pigments (read that as matte) that's enriched with moisturizing ingredients for easy wear.
The shades will be grouped into four color families: beige, brown, rose, and red. Like many companies, Chanel is promoting red lipstick for fall and winter.
I came by a swatch photo from a Chanel insider. It's an iPhone photo, so it's not as good as we might like, but it gives you an idea of the colors and the finish (very matte and intense). I'm sorry I can't identify each swatch. I did lighten up the photo in a photo editor because it was so dark.
This new lipstick is "not my thing." I am not a huge fan of matte lip colors, so it's unlikely I'll feature Rouge Allure Velvet when it launches. I'll continue to wear my new Rouge Coco Shines right through fall and winter. For anyone who loves opaque or matte lipstick, these may be "just your thing." Will you be looking for Rouge Velvet Allure when it hits the Chanel counters?

Hi Charlestongirl! Wow!!! At last something I won't be tempted to buy either!! I prefer the shiny/sheer ones to matte lipsticks, plus I have bought so many this spring (Rouge Coco, Dior addict and Guerlain...)that I can wait a little before buying some more:-)
ReplyDeleteHi Clarisse!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it feel good to be able to resist? I've been in "acquire" mode all year. Now, I get a breather from a collection. :)
Perfect timing for me, with all the new introductions.
Yes, definitely yes! I've been waiting for this to launch for ages :) I'm like your complete opposite, I stirred away fr Rouge Coco Shine.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the swatches :) While I like that they seem so opaque, I don't know if I would like the matte finish..it's Chanel, though, so I am sure I will land up at the counter to check :D
The lippies look interesting, but I'm most intrigued by the polishes. I know matte polishes have been around for a while, but Chanel almost always manages to go a step beyond.
ReplyDeleteI have already swatched some of these as 4 of them are already for sale in Norway. They are not my cup of tea though, so I will rather spend my money on the gorgeous new Guerlain eyeshadow palettes!
ReplyDeleteI'll be giving matte a miss. If the look really takes off, then I'll just blot down one of my Shines or Diors. I need the "forgiveness" of a sheer formula.
ReplyDeleteHi PoseyLass! Then you are going to love them! I saw one today. It's pretty, has a tiny bit of pearl finish, but is basically matte. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHey there, Rads!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely go see them when they arrive. I'm sure they will be long-lasting, offer some moisture. You could always toss gloss on top if you find a color you like, but want some shine too.
Hi Ava!
ReplyDeleteI didn't have any swatches of the polishes, but several bloggers have shown photos. I want to see them live and in person!
Hi Flyavsted and Eileen!
ReplyDeleteI think we have similar tastes. :)
I have started making choices, and I know I'm going to go crazy with the holiday collections, so...
Hi,
ReplyDeleteWhat are the nail colours ?
Much appreciated :)
You can see the nail colors here:

Not remotely tempted. Hate matte lip finishes and don't like dark colors. I need glossy, sheer, nude-type colors so money saved.
ReplyDeleteI'm in your camp, Jo. My fave Chanel rep at NM Tysons was wearing one of the shades today, but she can wear a dramatic look. I feel like I'm a kid playing dress-up when I wear darker shades unless they are sheer.
ReplyDeleteThere is a huge market for these new lipsticks, so I'm sure Chanel will do just fine without a few of us. :)
I absolutely can't wait for these!! I am a total sucker for a rich matte with a deep red quality- make no mistake, the gorgeous Rouge Coco Shines are brilliant and I want to own every one, but there are times that, for me at least, require the deepness of a wonderful matte lip. Thanks so much for the post ... happy weekend!! Beth in Pgh xo ;-)
ReplyDeleteI think these are marvelous and I can hardly wait for them- I guess I am in the minority here, because I'm a complete sucker for a deep rich matte, especially for the colder seasons. However much I love love love the Rouge Coco Shines (and I must own them ALL someday), for me there are occasions that demand a matte lip. Thank you so much for this post, Charlestongirl. Beth in Pgh xo ;-)
ReplyDeleteSorry about the double submission, guys ...
ReplyDeleteHi Beth!
ReplyDeleteWe really need to thank my sleuth! She's one of the best Chanel has. :)
I knew there would be many "standing in line" for these new shades. They aren't "totally" matte. There is a slight pearly cast to enliven them, but still too matte for my tastes. Come on back later and let us know which shades you choose.
I'm hanging my hat on holiday. Wait until you see it! I have some not-so-great photos. I'll try to get better for y'all.
The thing I like the most about the Shines is the long-lasting color. While the shine fades long before the color, I can always touch up with a gloss.
Hi, Charlestongirl! Just as I was reading your post I was thinking to myself, 'I think Rouge Allure Velvets may be a miss,' then I stumbled upon your same utterance. I doubt I can pull of the matte lipstick look; even though I will scope them out when they hit my local beauty counter, these lip colours will be a tough sell.
ReplyDeleteI have colors, all like these, from wet n wild.
ReplyDeleteWalls,
ReplyDeleteFrom the comments, you can see that while a majority of us like some shine, there are a lot of matte lovers out there. We save money with this launch, but the matte gals will be hard-pressed to pick just one. :)
thanks for taking your time to post this swatches! love reading your bloggs
ReplyDeleteStunning on you, Charlestongirl! I think I'll be able to stay away from these, though, since I can see these being appropriate for the office or a night out....both of which are not a part of my life :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks much, Giovanny! We need to thank our "insider" who swatched them for us. :)
ReplyDeleteLovethescents...that's not me...not my hand! I don't think these are the lipsticks for me.
ReplyDeleteThink how much money I'll save for other Chanel goodies!
Exactly :-)
ReplyDeleteI've got la raffinee(mauve) and l'exuberante(hot pink) and they're gorgeous, filmstarry lippies that show a real advances in formula, as in, they don't feel at all matte but look like, well, velvet! I was so readynfor these after all the shiny sheerness of the last few years!
ReplyDeleteThe shade range sucks though. I hope these become permanent and will come in more and better colors.
