The Friday Forum - November 25
Am I shopping today? Not yet! I'm feeling extremely lazy. I'm secure in knowing that there are fabulous online deals and discounts, and I'm reluctant to go in a store and be tempted to buy things I don't need - the inevitable outcome of shopping. I will eat those words if I end up at Tysons Galleria today. The Neiman Marcus Scent Event is still underway, and I don't have the GWP yet.
Today I awakened from my Thanksgiving feast coma very early, so I watched funny animal videos on my iPad. I enjoyed Catvertising, shared on YouTube by Daly Beauty. Then I watched Mishka, the talking Husky again. Mishka has her own Facebook page now. I think I'm going to have to "like" her because I love her.
I can't wait to hear about your shopping this weekend, so please make sure to leave a comment and let us know what you picked up for yourself. Earlier in the week, I called the Caron boutique in New York and pre-ordered a few bottles of their pricey perfumes, including Tuberose (see yesterday's Weekend Shopping Deals feature). I also ordered a sample of fragrances from the new Dawn Spencer Hurwitz site. That's enough for one week for me, especially with my special CREED bottle on its way.
It's time for The Friday Forum, our open chat. What new products did you discover this week? Did you find any deals you couldn't resist? Are you using a fabulous product and want to sing its praises? Did you find a beauty product disappointing? Do you have a question others might be able to answer? Want to talk about skin care? What's new in your life? Just use the comments. Don't be shy. Just make sure to ask any question you might have over the weekend. By early the next week, most (not all) readers have moved on.
I wanted to take a moment to address all the "furor" around Le Métier de Beauté's Come One, Come All Kaleidoscope that was exclusive to Nordstrom Montgomery Mall. I have received a lot of correspondence about it, both in e-mails and in blog comments (the most recent asking me if Dustin's new palette contains re-promoted colors). I've done some "due diligence" on the process Tawni used to select shades for Come One, Come All, and I think it was an unfortunate coincidence that she selected two shades that were identical (or almost identical) to two of the shades in Silk Road, which is still available at counters. It was definitely not a ruse by the company to "use up" unpopular shades, as one observer put it. I'm afraid more than a few of you without access to a local counter have become wary of ordering (and paying shipping costs for) duplicates of colors you already own. I understand that, and I've passed your concerns on to my contacts at Le Métier de Beauté. I know they want happy customers. Maybe some day soon, I'll be able to offer more words of reassurance about the line we all love.
Three reminders...

Oooh, Black Friday! You Americans sure know how to party! Your sales are always so much fun :-)
ReplyDeleteI look forward to your thoughts on Caron. I know it gets a LOT of love. I also look forward to your thoughts on DSH. Many of her fragrances have a bit of skank in them, to my nose....my friend, Vanessa, coined the phrase "DSH house skank", as they do the same to her. I do, however, ADORE Cimabue. It's cozy rice pudding to my nose.
Can't wait to hear about your fragrant adventures!
Happy shopping everyone :-)
Lovethescents,
ReplyDeleteYou mean you don't "do" Black Friday in Canada? Really? I got a Black Friday offer from THANN, and they are Canadian. :)
I hope the florals and fruits I ordered aren't skanky. I know exactly what you mean by that term. It's how I would characterize another "mostly natural" perfumer's scents. I ordered many samples, but little tiny bottles of other things. We'll see. Maybe it will be a short foray.
I am dead sure I'll love Caron Tuberose because I had sample. It's so pure, like putting my nose into a bouquet.
Yes, C-girl, some internet sites are doing Black Friday and I think Old Navy is too but it's not as widespread as it is in the US. Your deals are always phenomenal which is why so many American border towns do so well---we Canadians love shopping in the US!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you have a Caron to love. I think I might have something for you, Caron-wise....
Happy Friday, CG!
ReplyDeleteI am off today through Sunday and have spent the past few hours answering emails, taking care of blog tasks, and mentally preparing myself to go outside. I need a new shower curtain and the thought of going to Target is enough to make me queasy.
I have made two small Black Friday purchases for myself with two Indie makeup companies; I am trying to shop indie/small business this year for myself and for friends. I have lots of fun eyeshadows coming my way, now!
I love that you ordered some DSH. Dawn is brilliant. Please, please tell me you ordered a sample of Pandora!
Also, I must get to Caron soon. I am still ashamed that I've been here my whole life and have yet to visit! I will soon, though. Now that I've started my new job, I won't be so painfully broke! =)
Tomorrow I have a date with a perfume blogger who is in town. I am taking her to Bergdorf. I hope that sometime soon you come here so that I can be your Bergdorf date too! xo
Hi Joey,
ReplyDeleteI didn't order Pandora. I ordered many fruits and florals.
I think you should make Caron a stop on your Saturday shopping - right after Target. You wouldn't go to Target on Black Friday, would you? Sounds excruciating!
You reminded me of something I need to feature - thanks!
I need to get going too. I have a lovely massage scheduled at 3:00.
I heard across the 'net that 9000 people were waiting online to get through Macy's in Manhattan last night! Much as I love a good deal, there's not a chance I'd be waiting on a line like that. My mom and I spent some time shopping for sweaters on Neiman Marcus' website...and I ogled Jasmine Rouge perfume again...to buy or not to buy, that is the question.
ReplyDeleteEvelyn,
ReplyDeleteBased on my experience, buy! I love it. Need to feature it here.
CG, I hope your massage was wonderful! - and you're welcome for the reminder =)
ReplyDeleteI'll be excited to read your thoughts on DSH.
I ended up not going to Caron today - two hours on Fifth Avenue on a Saturday was enough for me. I get claustrophobic! I will have to soon, though. Besides, I sniffed so many fragrances today that my nose quickly wore out.
Hope your Saturday is going well! xo
