Le Métier de Beauté to Launch at Saks.com with On the Coast, an Exclusive Kaleidoscope Eye Kit

In celebration of the launch of Le Métier de Beauté at Saks.com, to commence on April 23, Le Métier de Beauté is unveiling a custom, limited-edition Kaleidoscope Eye Kit ($95), On the Coast, exclusive to Saks.com. In creating this palette, Mickey Castillo, Le Métier de Beauté's Director of Color, took his inspiration from Alicia Drake's legendary fashion tome, The Beautiful Fall. An opulent retelling of the glorious excesses of the 1970s Paris, the court intrigue of competing fashion houses, and the beautiful designs of that were born out of the struggle to be the most fashionable.

On the Coast includes four beautiful True Color Eye Shadow Shades, from top to bottom.
  • Effervescent beige champagne
  • Shimmering tan taupe
  • Soft satin brown
  • Deep champagne cobalt
On the Coast is one of three limited-edition palettes inspired by The Beautiful Fall.  Shades of Short Hills is exclusive to Saks Fifth Avenue at The Mall at Short Hills, and Golden Gate Girl is exclusive to Saks in San Francisco.

Important update from Le Métier de Beauté, Monday 4/23: Color us crazy but we had no idea that a Kaleidoscope could cause such a ruckus!

Our sincerest apologies! Both Le Métier de Beauté and the Saks.com team did not know that the page would go live prior to the announced launch date. A glitch in their system pushed the page out earlier than planned, and for that we sincerely apologize.

Due to the overwhelming outcry for “On The Coast,” we are going to do something that we have never done before…make more. Keep an eye on Saks.com for the page to go back up; you will be able to pre-order “On The Coast” until Friday, April 27th at 12pm or until supplies last.

Thank you for your passion and…we’re listening! Thank you as always for your support of the brand - we truly appreciate it!

  1. Is there a way to pre-order on Saks.com? or do I wait for Monday?

  2. LOL, Nemo. You have to wait until Monday. I'm waiting too.

  3. I *try* to be waiting Patiently for this...EEP. :)

  4. Wow, this is gong to be one loooooong weekend. I must have On the Coast. So there is no one to call to get on a list??? Ugh! Well those colors certainly are stunning. Charlestongirl you are certainly a well connected lass.

  5. Of the 3 new ones, this is the one I'm going for!

  6. MandiMomof3 and Cytaormina,

You are all a riot! Come on, waiting three days for eye shadow isn't as bad as waiting three days to find out if you got the job. LOL

Check Saks.com Sunday night before you go to bed.

  7. Please let us know how you like it, Estelle. This is the one I'm leaning toward also.

  9. FYI: On the Coast is available for ordering on the Saks website right now. Looks like Christmas came early for us all. ; )

  10. Charlestongirl, I caved. I did.

I ordered On the Coast a few minutes ago and I'm so excited! It's my first kaleidoscope from Le Metier after trying out the setting powder and, of course, Corinthian.

I was shopping at the Saks in San Francisco and there was no SA around but they did have Golden Gate Girl out on the counter, with no fanfare. I wanted to buy it but nobody was around to help, but it might mean that it's available in store sooner than expected as well.

  11. Just ordered it! You don't have to wait until tomorrow. Be sure to enter the code LEMETIER2 at checkout for your free gift too!

  12. I also ordered it - this morning. You can use the LEMETIER2 code for the GWP, and also use the free shipping code if you spend $200. Yea!

  13. well, we will be waiting a long time bc it went up a day early--sunday and is now sold out. You know, that p--ses me off; that is the last LMDB thing I buy, esp. after my rotten service experience with the LMDB people at Mazza.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I am really p--session too! Don't say it's going to be on the 23rd and do it a day before in the middle of the night!

If anyone bought extras I would LOVE to be able to purchase one. Please let me know. Thanks so much!

  15. What, seriously? Sold out? OMG! I placed an order this morning. I had a hunch they would go up early, but I thought it would be today.

When I mentioned in an earlier comment to check today, it was only a guess. Turned out to be a good guess.

I will pass along your disappointment to LMdB. In the meantime, call a Saks store and try to order from the counter.

  16. I did and it is only on Saks.com and their customer service had no idea what I was talking about. I really think this is more of a LMdB issue since the control stock and release dates. They also could have put a limit of one per customer. Not 6!!! I am such a big fan of both Saks and LMdB but this really has me upset. I would appreciate you passing along feedback because this was handled very poorly.

  17. I must say -- 60 of each + a quiet early release = bad idea. There are gonna be many upset people. At least make a bigger stock run orrrr have an accurate release date. I did get one so I shouldn't complain. I just chortled at the 6 per customer per 30 days thing, since I didn't expect it to last past 3 days...

  18. I am so disappointed this is already sold out. It was going to be my first le metier purchase. And i have been waiting a long time for just the right kaleidescope.

  19. I may have been literally the first person to purchase this kaleidoscope: I noticed it up around 1 AM EST this morning, and shared my discovery as soon as I was sure the order was valid. Charlestongirl, I think you managed to snag the last of the units.

Even though I was lucky in my timing, I absolutely agree about how poorly this edition was handled. Release dates do get moved up all the time, and I understand small runs for counter exclusives, but to make only 60 units available ONLINE is simply asking for trouble. Who made this decision: LMdB, Saks, or both? I don't know.

I also didn't appreciate the short notice. We found out only a few days ago that not one, not two, but THREE extremely limited edition kaleidoscopes would be going on sale in the same week. Not all of us have such flexible budgets.

If either company has any sense, they will do a second, bigger run. We have a right to bring this to their attention.

  20. Alas I missed out as well. I feel bad for all the readers I notified with the press release that it would be released tomorrow. I got Leigh's notification that it was released early but before I managed to even get home from the hospital with my daughter it was sold out. I agree that only 60 units for a much publicized online release is ludicrous. I'm sad this happened.

  21. I'm not sure who's to blame for the misinformation, but you'd think that Saks and Le Metier de Beaute would have worked together to make this brand's launch a success. As it is I think a lot of customers, including myself, aren't very happy with either of them. By the way, I went to Saks' site and wrote them a little note just to get it off my chest.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I wasn't sure I'd buy any but I have to say, I did laugh seeing Sak's limit of 6 per customer (hoarders anyone?). lol Oh well, there's always other pretty makeup to buy. :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Will there be any more released or does this mean that its completely sold out?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I just checked and they're removed it from the website entirely! It's disappointing, but I won't jump through hoops to get something.

There are plenty of other brands out there. I didn't enough damage with the Pucci/Guerlain collection :)

  25. Sorry, I meant I DID enough damage with Pucci :) I still wanted this though, oh well.

  26. Hi EVERYONE!

I got some feedback last night and this morning from LMdB. They said that it was a Saks.com "decision" (or maybe action) to post early, and they regret that so many of you were disappointed.

They have passed your feedback along to Saks.com, expressing your frustration that a launch date was not honored.

    ReplyDelete
  27. They had it up again briefly this morning, and I was able to order it, but it's already gone again. I can only hope that I really managed to snag one.
I don't think I've ever seen LMDB release a kaleidoscope online and put so few of them out there. Maybe it was saks.com poor judgment, but I was truly not happy with the way they managed the whole affair.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Augh it was up again? dang it. haha. Do you think LMdB will make more of this since so many ppl seem to want it?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Disappointing that a company like le Métier would resort to these marketing shenanigans to promote their company. The quality of their products should speak for themselves. I'd expect this from MAC though.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hanna, I checked with LMdB, and they said Saks has no plans to re-order. Put the pressure on Saks.com!

EVERYONE, there are so many comments here, I'm having trouble keeping up. I feel your pain.

The "six limit" is standard at Saks. Check Tom Ford, and you'll see the same thing. It didn't mean they singled out LMdB with that rule, or that anyone actually bought six of them! :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am not sure I am impressed by LMDB's reaction to put the blame on saks.com only. It should be common sense not to do such a PR campaign for 60 pieces only . Specially on a major website which shipp all over the world....
Hopefully they will do it right for the summer collection...and hope we will be able to see your swatches soon. Do you think they could provide us with the closest shades from the regular eye shadow which could replicate this kaleidoscope. That would be nice of them.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Those of you who missed out, take a look at LMdB's Facebook. They've just posted that they're going to make more On the Coast kaleidoscopes.

"Keep an eye on Saks.com for the page to go back up -> you will be able to pre-order “On The Coast” until Friday, April 27th at 12pm or until supplies last."

Charlestongirl, thank you for your cool words of wisdom and moderation. It can be difficult being the intermediary for such a charged situation as this. Here's to hoping for a happy ending for everyone!

  33. I got this e-mail from LMdB while I was over at Mom's house.

Color us crazy but we had no idea that a Kaleidoscope could cause such a ruckus!

  34. ahhh Thank you!

I hope we're all able to get it when the page goes back up... hate to be obsessively checking saks.com...

  35. I missed out the 1st order by 1 hour! I was VERY frustrated as I stopped purchasing Mac items for this very reason. I am hoping I will be able to get at least 1. I am a Mommy to 3 little ones, as I dont have time to stalk the website and hoping it will still be available by early morning. Does anyone know what time they will be going up since we all live in different time zones?

  36. Thank you for keeping us updated. I really appreciate it.

  37. Mandi, I don't know, but I will tweet the second I see it.

    Thanks, fgirl!

  38. It's not on the LMdB main page on Saks.com, but if you click to the link that was there yesterday, it's there for pre-order.
