Bobbi Brown Bed Perfume Oil
Bobbi Brown's Bed Perfume Oil ($70) is a limited edition, available only at her Web site. I'll tell you immediately that I like the fragrance. What surprised me - because I got swept away by the notes and didn't pay attention - is that the bottle is a teeny tiny little 0.21 fluid ounces. Actually, the Web site doesn't make that perfectly clear. If you can't visualize 0.21 ounces, it's like a deluxe sample.
Here's what enticed me.
Nothing says sexy like skin lightly scented with a warm fragrance oil. Rich and sensual without being overpowering, Bobbi's newest scent, Bed Perfume Oil combines notes of neroli, orange flower, and jasmine. Adding to its appeal is the precious glass perfume vial that it comes in-one inspired by Bobbi's love for antique bottles.
Here is the clue I should have investigated.
To apply: Pat lightly on pulse points and refresh as desired. Not intended for use as a bath oil or on bed linens.
Pulse points! That's because there's barely enough of it to do anything more than a couple of modest dabs on application. The little apothecary bottle is so small, it cannot be used like a traditional perfume oil - unless you are interested in a single-use try-out. The smallest perfume oil I own and use, the intoxicating Belle Lavande from Parfums de Nicolaï, is 3.4 ounces. I apply it liberally all over my chest and arms before sleep. It knocks me out in the divinely relaxing scent of lavender.
Bed Perfume Oil is more like a suggestion of scent. The neroli is a raw orange that dries into a soft one quickly. The orange flower and jasmine, two of my favorite notes, leave me in nocturnal bliss. Unfortunately, unless I apply it right under my nose, I can't smell it after application. I'm not into sleeping with my wrist at my face. I trained myself years ago to keep my hands off my face while sleeping. That causes blemishes.
Seriously, Bobbi Brown, what were you thinking? If an adequate amount of this Bed Perfume Oil had been packaged, the price would have been $280, a killer for an online exclusive. Sadly, I have to recommend you skip this one.

That pricing is about right for a perfume oil, actually. It's a perfume oil, not a body oil, so it's supposed to be more concentrated. Like an extrait.
ReplyDeleteThe perfume oils from Ayala Moriel are 120$ for 10ml, for example, which is twice the amount of the Bobbi Brown one. The perfume oils from BPAL are about 20$ for 5mls, which is on the low end of pricing.
I don't understand why they put it exclusive on-line. How will people know if they like the scent? Bad marketing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a useless product costing a fortune too!...It's unbelievable from BB who is so sensible usually...There are lots of perfume oils which smell delicious, cost less and you can smell before ordering them on a website!...
ReplyDeleteBut after all, if some (snobbish?) people are happy ordering BB Bed perfume oil, let them be...I know better, like you CG:-)
Heat has come at last here and now we have 37°...we are all "swooning" and "melting down":-)
How pretentious of Bobbi Brown. She never comes off that way, but maybe her "people" thought this was a good idea.
ReplyDeleteOn a happier note, I'm loving the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick that I won from you, Charlestongirl!
Maggie, there's just something "off" with this one. An oil should hold its scent for a loooong time. This one doesn't.
ReplyDeleteNot sure, Coco. Maybe it was a test-market product? Even my Bobbi Brown store friends told me they knew only that it existed. Had never smelled it. (I did ask for advice before ordering.)
ReplyDeleteI've heard of Facebook, Clarisse, that you are all suffering a heat wave now. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteIf this oil lasted a long time, wafting the scent of its floral bouquet, I'd be happier. I have natural perfumes with very high percentages of oil, and they are fabulous for their longevity. Can't say that about Bed.
So glad you like it, Grlnxdor! It's one of my faves.
ReplyDeleteI think oils are so popular right now BB just wanted to get into the action. I know that good oil can coast a lot but that's really not enough to do anything with. Thanks for the review. I appreciate your honesty.
