Chantecaille HD Perfecting Powder and Kabuki Brush - New Perfect Pair
Chantecaille's HD Perfecting Powder ($72) is remarkable. Created especially for high- definition cameras, Chantecaille’s revolutionary skin smoothing powder goes on without a trace, leaving only a flawless, matte (but not lifeless) finish. The hydrating formula is available in one universal shade that looks white in the pan, invisible when applied, and approrpriate for all skin tones. Worn over makeup, the translucent powder gently sets foundation, ensuring long-lasting wear. Worn over moisturizer, it adds an evenness to the complexion that might make you think about skipping foundation more often.
I was blown away by how perfect it made me look the first time I tried it at Neiman Marcus. Jeannine Barnes had managed to get her hands on a tester early, and she had it available at a media event. I applied it right there, over my makeup at an event, and was stunned at how flawless and polished it made me look.
The non-drying, colorless formula goes onto my skin with a slight white veil. The white disappears almost immediately, leaving behind air-brushed skin. How good does it get? The powder softens imperfections on the skin - like my hairline sun spots - instantly erases pores (not much of a problem for me, but I know they plague others), and adds luminosity and radiance. Like all great powders, it evens out the complexion, while never settling into fine lines (ahem, I hate to mention them). It actually blurs lines.
Chantecaille says the weightless feel is an "ultra-gliding texture" that blends into the skin like a fluid. I'm not sure I understand that concept, but the powder does blend into my skin perfectly.
HD Perfecting Powder was formulated with new micro-fine perfecting powders that are undetectable under high-definition cameras or by the naked eye. This powder will give your skin a flawless, natural finish. Some quote unquote HD products promise the news anchor look without delivering anything unique. Chantecaille has delivered a powder I will wear daily, and I don't wear powder on normal days.
That reminds me...yesterday I was returning to my car after visiting the Italian Store. It was a nice day, and many people were eating at the tables outside the store. As I walked by, a man said loudly, "Your hair is beautiful!" I turned, and, sure enough, he was talking to me. Made my day. When you wear Chantecaille's HD Perfecting Powder, your compliments will more likely be, "Wow, your skin looks amazing!"
Chantecaille has also introduced a gorgeous new Kabuki Brush ($69), made with luxuriously soft goat hair, the ideal hair for blending. It's the perfect brush for applying the HD Perfecting Powder. The innovative firm dome of the brush flawlessly smoothes on any kind of powder or bronzer. You can use it to build, buff, and blend powder makeup for a natural finish.
The zebra print was inspired by fall's runway trends (Sisley is also doing zebra). Conveniently sized for on-the-go touch-ups, this brush is a must-have. You will love it!
You can find both of these products at the Chantecaille Web site and at Chantecaille counters everywhere. If you think powder is a ho-hum product, unless it comes in little balls or has another eye-catching feature, HD Perfecting Powder will adjust your thinking. It may even change your life.
Update 9/30: Several of you asked for the ingredients in the HD Perfecting Powder. Here they are (click on the photo to enlarge it). I do not believe the powder is marketed as anti-aging. It is a perfecting powder, designed to make your complexion look great.

Stop stop stop! I want this and am on a buying freeze! I kid, of course, about you needing to stop for my benefit. If this works as well as advertised, perhaps it'll show up under e Christmas tree. Considering I own enough powder to cover my whole body daily until then, I'll probably survive.
ReplyDeleteJane, welcome into the truly addicted club. I've heard makeup addiction is more powerful than heroin addiction. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jane,
ReplyDeleteI got such a laugh about you having enough powder to cover your entire body :-) So do I! I don't think that's going to deter me from ordering it, though. I was also on a self-imposed buying slow down (not ban--never ban!) because I have been waiting for the holiday collections to start hitting counter. But, hey! It's almost October, right? LOL
Hi Charlestongirl,
If ever there was a doubt in anyone's mind that flawless, velvety smoothness is the "It" finish for the coming seasons, by now they should be thoroughly convinced that satin, matte, and velvet are the big news. It started with the re-introduction of matte lipstick to a new generation, and now the refined and chic look has become key in many of the new foundations, blushers, powders, and eyeshadows. The difference between this wave of mattes and the ones I remember from the late fifties and early sixties, though, is the soft and subtle luminescence which prevents facial features from looking flat or lifeless. Also, there is often a touch of shimmer added somewhere on the face that acts as a nice juxtaposition. There is still a wealth of shimmer, glimmer, and sparkle out there, but I have the feeling that the more fashion forward faces will be adorned in soft matte finishes as we move into autumn and beyond.
Chantecaille's new HD powder seems to fall in line with the trend and should work perfectly at blurring imperfections with a subtle glow rather than a shimmer. I was never a huge fan of MUFE's HD powder because of all the gaffs MA's made on celebrity faces. Remember poor Nicole Kidman's infamous white raccoon eyes? I thought that if a professional MA could make such a blunder, what would happen if the powder were in my hands :-P But, that was then and this is now, so I shall definitely give Chantecaille's a go. It will be a nice addition to my powder drawer especially since holiday photo season will soon be upon us. By the way, I smiled when I read your closing comment about little balls of powder. Those new LE Guerlain Météorites are going to be mine! :-)
Eileen, I wasn't around in the 60s, but i remember the matte faces of the mid 90s. There was nothing better than taking my sister's powder and obliterating my features. Just two eyes, two nostrils, and an uncontrollable grin when I looked at how bananas I appeared.
ReplyDeleteCG - no joke! My mother keeps staging guilt based interventions when she visits. : ) On an unrelated note, do you know if hollyhocks thrive in NoVa? My tiny little front yard gets a lot more sun than I realized and I'm looking for some color next year.
Again and again, Cg, you are the best. Another wonderful feature on what sounds like an amazing product. Meanwhile, wore my new LMDB Eagle's Envy eye kit today and love it. Love the green! Even the taupe shade is greenish. Perfect. Makes me almost like football.
ReplyDeleteOh My Goodness, I am in trouble! I fear I am becoming addicted to beauty products! I am having trouble reading the code letters! Arrggg LOL
ReplyDeleteHey Eileen,
ReplyDeleteAs you know, I'm a big fan of those little balls. Those and some of Chanel's finishing powders have pizazz. Some compact powders are BORING, and one might consider Chantecaille's just another one of them. Aux contraire! :)
Oh Lord, Jane, it's a good thing my mother stays home!
ReplyDeleteWe can grow hollyhocks - some varieties in perfect sun and soil conditions.
LOL, Nemo, I cannot imagine it makes you look like a football.
ReplyDeleteTawanda, code letters? :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this powder and adore putting it on with the kabuki brush! As far as I'm concerned it's a must have. Kudos to you for getting a compliment on your hair. You go girl!
ReplyDeleteI just recently became a Chantecaille convert after buying the "Palette d'Olivia" eye and cheek palette, a lipstick, and a lip chic. I'm also loving a sample of Future Skin foundation...oh, and I got the Talc-Free Loose Powder as well (gotta love those Nordstrom Trend Shows!). I'm so thrilled with everything I got. I even got the Jasmine and Lily Healing Mask to use at night, and it's doing wonders for my ruddy cheeks. I thought I'd gotten my fill for the time being, but now you've got me longing for more!
ReplyDeleteHi Charleston Girl and all like cosmetic addictives...I have been contemplating the purchase of this powder. Unfortunately, we do not have any stores in my area that carry these "high end" brands. :-( Sadly, I am limited to internet browsing or quick trips when on the road for work. So...makes it difficult to enjoy that "FIX" you get playing at the beauty counters.
ReplyDeleteAll the stores around here typically carry Lauder, Lancome and Clinique, some Bobbi and Chanel - otherwise I am in the dark when shopping for my favorites!
Thanks for the review of this product! Sounds wonderful.
JEM
I am posting this for a darling reader who was totally confounded by Google (and I understand why, but not how).
ReplyDeleteOrdered. Truly do not need the brush. I do not have many, if any, powders like this which makes it very easy to simply BUY! Thank you! I could not possibly know about all the goodies out there if it were not for our Charleston Girl! I ask, can anyone truly read the word(s) to prove we are not robots? I have to take at least three attempts. My eyes are good! Crazy!
MomofJandN
Jo, it was so funny. I wondered if the guy was mentally impaired. :) How many cute guys yell out stuff like that?
ReplyDeleteShannon, welcome to the buy-everything Chantecaille club!
ReplyDeleteHey there, JEM! It is really worth buying. I am not a powder addict, although I will plead guilty to Guerlain and Armani, but this one is amazing.
ReplyDeleteSorry you had trouble, MomofJandN. I can never explain Google's doings.
ReplyDeleteSigh, another Chantecaille product I just have to have. I'm formulating my response to my husband now. "Yes dear, I "need" this powder."
ReplyDeleteTatiana, tell him it will make you look even hotter!
ReplyDeleteCG, you're sweet. But in order to look hotter, I'd need to look hot in the first place. Trust me, no one ever shouts out that I have great hair as I'm walking down the street. BTW, you really do have beautiful hair.
ReplyDeleteWondering if the powder will help to add a little life to my extremely pale complexion.
Just ordered this and a fragrance from Saks for the Beauty Bonus Bag! So excited!
ReplyDeleteHi Charleston Girl, i have a question.. i just recently ordered this powder from the Chantecaille website, i was surprised that when i received my order, the package ingredients, were covered with a new sticker with different ingredients.. has that happened to yours? I've tried contacting them (chantecaille) on numerous times, tried emailing them, but no answer, their customer service is terrible. Now let me get this straight, for the price of 72 dollars i don't know what i'm getting, the list of ingredients lists a whole bunch of silicones and no anti aging ingredients, plus i couldnt even get a cheap puff! i kinda feel cheated because i've paid so much for a product that is no different than the MUFE hd powder. Please enlighten me, sincerely Vanessa
ReplyDeleteTruly trust you when it comes to these things, CG. I already have the brush when I ordered the L'Elephant Palette and now I'm waiting for this powder to hit counters. I hope it is as good as you say it is.
ReplyDeleteHello
ReplyDeleteDo u know how this compares to By Terry's new hyuloronic powder? Also have u tried this with GAMaestro makeup?
Wow--I am SO tempted by this powder right now. Usually, translucent finishing powders are just a last step to me--nothing to lust after. I like the MAC one enough to stick with it and not get tempted by all the other ones. The Make Up For Ever one is okay, I'm just trying to use up that last of it now. But this Chantecaille one looks STUNNING! I don't know what it is about this one, but I HAVE to have it! :P
ReplyDeleteTatiana, I'm pretty pale too. I can't say this powder will add life to your complexion. Rather, it will make you look more perfect than ever.
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous, I need to find the box. Give me a day, please. I have to go to work today.
ReplyDeleteHope you like it, Emilie!
ReplyDeleteBecca, it's hard to look away from Chantecaille. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the review! I have large pores and hope this will help. I wonder if they sample it? Love your blog. I bought several Bobbi Brown long wearing cream eye shadows because of you! I'm also on the search for the blue Chanel eye pencil. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Vanessa and CG, I too would love to know the ingredients in this. I've been holding off purchasing until I can find out what they are.
ReplyDeletehi gail, i had been looking at the list of ingredients, i don't see anything anti aging just a whole bunch of different silicones which i personally don't favor. I just wish that for 72 dollars at least i would get some anti aging products, and a powder puff or something.
ReplyDeleteHi CG,
ReplyDeleteThanks for such a wonderful review. I'm now torn between the Guerlain Meteorites and the Chantecaille HD Powder! Which would you pick if you only had budget for one ? :)
Ps. I'm intending to just wear either powder/perles over moisturiser & primer.
Thanks!
Thanks so much for the ingredient list. Unfortunately I will have to pass because of the bismuth but I really appreciate your getting back to us with the info!
ReplyDeleteHello
ReplyDeleteGreat Post- How does the compare to By Terry new Hydra powder-?Thanks
Sorry, don't know about the By Terry powder.
ReplyDeleteGwen, no way for me to choose!
ReplyDeleteLizzy, this should help, but try before you buy - if you can.
ReplyDeleteHi, thanks so much for this review. I'm very intrigued but worried about the white cast. Does it truly go away? I know that Chante's Just Skin has some sort of amazing colour adjusting properties and that within minutes of application it seems to 'melt' into my skin so I'm wondering if this does the same. I would love to be able to just wear either Just Skin and this, or simply moisturise and then the HD powder, as you mention. Do you think it would change the colour of powder blush on top? Thanks again
ReplyDeleteJo, it adjusts and disappears instantly.
ReplyDeleteHow does this powder look in a photo with flash? If you google hd loose powder camera flash you'll find a photo of Nicole Kidman with the problem caused by MUFE HD powder.
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThat Kidman debacle was MUA error, not the powder. Perhaps the artist was rushed?
by any chance is this similar to Make Up Forever HD powder?
ReplyDeleteMy skin got itchy and dry using it. A reply would be really helpful
Thank you!
