Screen Actors Guild Awards Fashion

So far, what I've seen from the Screen Actors Guild Awards has been a bit ho-hum. Perhaps the celebrities are saving their best for the Academy Awards. There were a few standouts, though. Check out Ellie Kemper above in her Reem Acra gown. I love her look.

Naomi Watts looked gorgeous, as always. The Marchesa gown is amazing.

What do you think about redheads in red? I'm not sure this Alexander McQueen gown flatters Jessica Chastain. It's too tight too.

Kerry Washington, on the other hand, looked divine in white. Her embellished Rodarte gown suited her to a T. Wow! Just wow.

  2. hi charleston girl! i didn't know that this award show was even on so thankyou for showing this post. i was watching doc martin. this is totally unrelated to the sag awards but, i was at "my" chanel counter today and they're getting all kinds of new rouge coco's, nail polishes and glosses between march-may. you probably already knew that though!! i had a question, do you ever use a black pencil to apply on the bottom waterline? if so, do you recommend any special liners? well, good night and have a great week!! i just love your blog for so many reasons including the latest in events! omg! i don't even know who jessica chastain is?!!! xo. wendy.

  3. Redheads look stunning in red! Just as Christina Hendricks has shown us many times both on and off the red carpet (and Mad Men). They just have to be pickier about the shade of red they wear and sadly in this case, Jessica Chastain's does not suit her.

When it comes to colours, Christina Hendricks knows how to dress for redheads. I rarely see her wear a colour that looks awful with her hair (the cut or style of her clothes are more often a miss than colour).

Emma Stone, when she had red hair, also dressed well to suit her colouring. Hell, she dresses well for in every way, colour, cut, makeup, everything. Her only mistake was keeping the blonde hair in my opinion.

  4. I think Jessica Chastain looked wonderful in that gown...but it was a bit too tight in the hips. That orange-red really compliments her coloring!

  5. Yikes! What a fashion train wreck that turned out to be. I was at a concert last night and didn't see the red carpet coverage so this morning I went online to take a look at the pictures. There were some beauties, but the majority of the ladies were wearing sad, frumpy gowns that did little to flatter them. And the hair and accessories were so lackluster. As you said, Charlestongirl, perhaps they're saving it for the Oscars, but you'd think they'd make a special effort for the SAGs seeing as they receive these awards from their peers. Oh well. . .

  6. Hi Annie,

Naomi Watts is becoming a perpetual standout. What beauty - and great taste!

  7. Hi Wendy,

Yes, I've asked my regional rep to get me photos.

I don't use pencil on the waterline. It always creeps into my eyes and makes me cry. If you want to wear one, make sure to choose a waterproof shade.

    Thanks!

  8. Hi Leila,

Yes, you remind me of one redheaded star who wore a deep red dress on another occasion, and she was smashing.

That dress just did not flatter Chastain. The color was bad on her, and those creases across the abdomen were particularly unflattering.

  9. Hi Bisbee,

It looked a size too small. I hate all that creasing in gowns that are stretching where they aren't supposed to stretch. :)

  10. True, Eileen. Most of the gowns/dresses were so boring (or ugly) that I was surprised. There were a few other pretty ones I didn't mention, but overall, it was a #fail (as they say on Twitter).

  11. Hi Charlestongirl,

I love the Reem Acra--- what a gorgeous hue and fit!

  12. I respectfully disagree about Jessica Chastain and the overall #fail of the night. I think that Naomi Watts always gets it right, lately anyway. And Julianne Moore, a win in my book. I loved Jessica Chastain in red and thought the dress had the "va va va voom" factor going. Kerry Washington was my favorite! She ALWAYS looks great. And I liked Jennifer Lawrence and Lea Michelle for the "newbies". I don't think "frumpy" is a word I would have chosen.

  13. Hi Dovey,

I agree. I would wear it in a heartbeat.

  14. MamaVal,

Frumpy belongs to others. Did you see some of the dresses? They were just awful. None of the women you mentioned were frumpy, but others were. Take a look at Anne Hathaway's gown - or January Jones - or Sigourney Weaver.

I just really dislike that look of creasing across the body. A larger size, and she would have looked great. Still, in my opinion, she looked orders of magnitude better than the three I just named.

  15. OK...I'm laughing right now because I missed the red carpet thing and the whole awards show due to my serious "Downton Abbey" addiction, but I just saw Sigourney Weaver's dress, and you were perfectly justified in using the word "frumpy"!!! YIKES.
