Catherine Deneuve at 70: Still Gorgeous

Catherine Deneuve turns 70 today, and she is still as gorgeous as she was in her youth. It's worth noting that she never sacrificed her principles for society's conventions. Was it her independence that kept her young? Good genes? She smokes cigarettes, so it wasn't necessarily her lifestyle.

At this moment in my life, 70 doesn't seem old - despite the fact that society had deemed it old. There are very recent photos showing she's earned a few wrinkles and gained a few pounds, but she still turns heads. She's an accomplished, award-winning actress; a mother; and an independent woman. Happy birthday, Catherine Deneuve!

  1. She looks beautiful. How do they do it? Her, Raquel Welch, Sophia Loren, etc. I say we hunt them down and force them to give up their secrets!!

  2. Wow! All I can do is hope I am fortunate to age as beautifully as she does. Thank you for posting such a lovely photo of her.

  3. She is wonderful, our most precious gem in French cinema! Such a strong character and at the same time she is very funny, very witty and so independent!
She is very gifted and talented not only for her art but for life: she has managed to keep her private life private, she loves cinema and challenges with young directors she helps create new films, she loves country life, adores gardening her roses, and also enjoys the pleasures of life: friends and family all around her, excellent food and wines...so much for diets!
She is respectfully called "Mademoiselle Deneuve" and she is much loved here in France (I'm a faithful admirer as you may have already guessed)I just wish I could be as full of life as she is when I'm 70!!!

  4. I adore Catherine Deneuve. She has always symbolized sophisticated beauty to me (and was one of the best models for Chanel, in my opinion). I remember reading ages ago that she was a regular at Carita. Like Deb, I would love to know her secrets. Joyeux anniversaire, Catherine!

P.S. 70 is not old by any means!

  5. Wow...how on earth does she smoke and look like THAT? I've never smoked a day in my life, but I sure don't glow like Catherine. She is as beautiful as always. Thanks, CG.

  6. Just a picture of true beauty, Catherine Deneuve.
Great post, CG. I agree with Deb that we hunt those lovely ladies down and demand to know their secrets to a long and gorgeous life of beauty and of course, grace!

  7. She's gorgeous, slightly swollen, but gorgeous.

  8. And I'd like to add Jane Fonda and Carmen Dell'Orefice to Deb's list. Jane exudes good health and sexy vitality at 75 and the incomparable Carmen still struts the catwalk with panache at 82. What do all these stunning women have in common? Good genes, good "work" ;-), and a joie de vivre that says, "Age be damned!" That they hit the genetic jackpot goes without saying and that they take steps to maintain their physical allure is a given, but it is their zest for life that is the true fountain of youth and which accounts for the glow that comes from within. There's a huge difference between chasing your youth and making the most of what you've got. It is that difference that separates the plastic surgery victims from the woman who simply want to look great--at any age.

  9. I remember a number of years ago, Catherine said,"At some point, you have to choose between your face and your a$$. I chose my face." and so, she gained some weight on purpose. Maybe we all should try to enjoy life a little more, perhaps have that occasional extra glass of wine or a dab more garlic mashed potatoes! Relax and enjoy life, it can't hurt if you are reasonable about it.

  10. CG, we have something in common, we both admire the same woman. I have always looked up to Catherine Deneuve for her classic beauty and the way she exudes class. I hope I look as good as she does when I turn 70. I agree with Melanie. I don't think 70 is old anymore. These days I don't think you earn the right to say you're old until you hit 80.

  11. Oh, I had such a crush on her when I was young. I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world. I still do. She pulled me toward Chanel cosmetics when my friends were buying drugstore items. My grandmother gave me Chanel perfume when I was young. And Catherine gave me the makeup start. Lol. She is the best Chanel model of all time in my opinion. I admire her beauty and her independence and her ferocity for life.

I think her secret is in her genes. I honestly think that is true for most people that age well. She seems to surround herself with loved ones, good friends, and cinema enthusiasts. She worked hard and played hard and loved hard. You can honestly say that she fully lives her life.

    Thanks for this post.

  12. She sure has came a long way since Les Parapluies de Cherbourg but she looks as beautiful and age-appropriate. Such an inspiration!

  13. Saw her once years ago at Tyson's Bloomies promoting her fragrance. She was the most beautiful woman I"d ever seen. This was in the mid 80s. Some of her graceful aging I think is due to good genes and great bone structure, plus many Europeans are big into maintenance.
