Givenchy Rouge Interdit Magic Lipstick in Noir Révélateur
I might as well finish up this spring's Givenchy experiments today. At the same time I purchased the Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow, I rolled the dice and ordered Rouge Interdit Magic Lipstick ($32) in Noir Révélateur (#62) - called a sheer berry pink. Why not? I like berries, and I like pink. Plus the funky black color fascinated me.
This "magic lipstick" is said to enhance the natural color of the lips. I'd agree. It's a color-enhancer that brings a touch of "dark mystery for feminine and romantic lips." Its pigments react with the skin’s pH, so its color evolves differently on each woman. The stick looks black, but leaves a transparent bitten effect.
The blinding photo above proves it was taken in very bright mid-day sun. As you can see, the lipstick really looks black in the tube. The tube? It's a little weird, but that doesn't disturb me. I just can't imagine throwing it on a key ring.
Rouge Interdit Magic Lipstick in Noir Révélateur is most definitely transparent on the lips. It's extremely sheer. On my own lips, the color leans toward grape. It reminds me of Clinique's Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, one of my old favorites.
The color is a blue pink on my arm and on my lips. Despite its sheerness, it does show on my lips. It looks very natural - my lips but better.
It offers a very subtle shine in the light. It does not sparkle as one of my swatch photos above emphasizes. That was full sun. It has an almost imperceptible taste that dissipates in seconds. It feels nicely hydrating on my lips. All in all, good features!
Is it worth the difference in price if you compare it to Black Honey? No. It's nice, though, if you enjoy a little magic, want to astonish your friends, and are willing to buy a "luxury" lipstick. You can find both (Clinique and Givenchy) at Sephora. Sephora is the exclusive retailer for Givenchy in the United States.

Oh my! Beautiful, may have to add this to my lippie collection! Thanks for the post :)
ReplyDeleteThis is really a magical one. Love the end effect. I got one Rouge Interdit from their Spring collection and ended up really liking it. It is said that these do look different on everyone depending on the chemistry of your lips. Thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting! That's actually a very pretty color on your arm. I can imagine how pretty it would look on rosy lips. I thought I was being daring purchasing Guerlain's blue/white Stardust, but you have me seriously considering taking a walk on the Goth side. LOL
ReplyDeleteSheer berry stains like this are absolutely beautiful! I love taking intense colours and wearing them lightly like this, however that takes work and isn't ideal when you're short on time. It's a different effect from starting with a lighter colour in the first place.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I do believe this is a repromote and renaming of an old product Givenchy launched a couple of years ago. It was called Liv's Lips and was launched when she was still face of the brand. I remember reading an interview where she talked about loving Black Honey and how the creative director of Givenchy makeup created Liv's lips for her, in that vein, so if it reminds you of black honey, that's probably why.
On another note, I love reading beauty interviews with her because she really is a beauty enthusiast, just like all of us who frequent beauty blogs. You can tell she loves beauty. Oh, to have that flawless, porcelain skin of hers...

I too took that same walk on the "wild side" and bought this a few months ago thinking it would compare to EL's Vivid Shine Luminizer in Gunmetal. Nope- this reminds me of those Fran Wilson Mood Changing Lippies! At least the Gunmetal Luminizer actually will darken any lipstick underneath it- but this is nearly clear on my lips. I'm glad I have it for my collection, but it was a disappointment.
ReplyDeleteI still on occasion have my nails done in Black Honey polish, and when I do I ways receive compliments. What a great classic color!
As "Anonymous" said, this is a re-launch of the original Liv's Lips, for which I searched in vain, from a few years ago. This Magic" lippie is just wonderful - the perfect berry stain. I have to disagree with you a bit on one point CG. The color of this is bluer and IMHO, much more beautiful than Clinique's Black Honey, which is much browner. I cannot wear Black Honey and don't really understand its alleged popularity as the color formula seems to have become browner and warmer over the years and not a "universal" shade.
ReplyDeleteRemember, Nina, that the color is dependent on your own skin chemistry. So what is bluer on you may not be on someone else. :) That's the magic!
