Coming Attraction: The Guerlain Shalimar Holiday 2016 Makeup Collection by Natalia Vodianova

This coming holiday season, Guerlain invites you on a unique journey into the heart of the East with an eight-piece makeup collection developed in partnership with supermodel Natalia Vodianova. The collection includes a new Shalimar iridescent spray for Body and Hair powder, plus Guerlain's must-have’s for achieving the perfect holiday party looks.

The collection includes these eight future superstars.

SOUFFLE D’OR DE SHALIMAR ($98). The famous Shalimar bottle is revisited in deeper blue with the Guerlain signature and a blue atomizer with metallic blue thread. Inside is an extra-fine pearly loose powder subtly perfumed with Shalimar Souffle de Parfum notes: bergamot, orange blossom, and vanilla. Apply to face, hair, body, and décolleté for a subtle golden highlight.

TERRACOTTA TERRA INDIA in 00 ($55). Packaged in lacquered Shalimar blue, Terracotta Terra India – whose pattern has been inspired by Indian drawings - is Guerlain’s classic Terracotta powder in shade 00. The powder, decorated with golden shimmer, offers a healthy glow.

MÉTÉORITES Perles de Légende ($65). This cult color-correcting formula, housed in a beautiful gold and sapphire limited-edition case inspired by India, creates a perfect, fresh, and radiant complexion thanks to a new and unique harmony of pearls.

L’OR EYELINER ($34). A long-lasting intense gold eyeliner that creates a stunning highlighted eye look. It comes in a silky texture for an easy and flawless application.

PRECIOUS LIGHT ($52). A light, pearly, and blendable texture to apply on light zones for an instant and subtle glow to illuminate the complexion in wintertime.

DUO EYESHADOW SHALIMAR in GOLD AND SAPPHIRE($46). Two vibrant colors inspired by precious stones: gold and sapphire with a creamy, metallic finish that will enhance the eyes for the holiday season.

ROUGE G Exceptional Complete Lip Color in #821 Rouge Saphir ($56). As unique as a jewel, a collector's edition of Rouge G lipstick with a precious blue stone on the case. The lipstick itself is an intense ruby red shade (in keeping with the red "color of the season).

KISSKISS in ROSE INDIEN ($37). Guerlain’s beloved KISSKISS formula in an intense fuchsia inspired by Indian pigments.

I saw a photo of the MÉTÉORITES Perles de Légende in the catalog Saks Fifth Avenue produced for its beauty event, which starts tomorrow. I was immediately smitten. Out of the eight pieces in this collection, I know I want at least six. I'm wondering where I will get the money. I need a new job soon!

Here are some lovely tips for using these new pieces from Supermodel Natalia Vodianova.

SOUFFLE D’OR DE SHALIMAR
“In addition to face and hair, I apply this powder on the back of my hands and on my wrists. So when I move them, a subtle scent emerges.”

MÉTÉORITES Perles de Légende
“I specifically chose these three colors of pearls because they remind me of the colors of the mosaics in the Indian palaces. The pink pearls revive the natural color of the cheeks and the freshness of the complexion; blue pearls correct irregularities of the skin and dark circles; and the gold pearls warm and illuminate cheekbones.”

TERRACOTTA TERRA INDIA in 00
“My application advice: use the three (3) gesture invented by Olivier Echaudemaison. Draw a three on each side of the face, from the forehead to the cheeks and then to the chin following the facial contour, and smoothing it down along the neck.”

L’OR EYELINER
“Do not hesitate to apply a fine line of the gold eyeliner over this collection’s eye shadows; it really makes my blue eyes stand out!”

PRECIOUS LIGHT
“To illuminate your features, apply this color on your cheeks, on the outside corner of your eyes, the bridge of your nose, or on your Cupid's bow.”

I'll be very happy if I can emulate her application techniques and end up with even a fraction of her blonde beauty.

The Guerlain Shalimar Holiday 2016 Makeup Collection by Natalia Vodianova will be available on October 1, 2016 at Guerlain Boutiques and select store and online location at Nordstrom, Sephora, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, and Dillard’s. See anything you must have?

  1. So excited for this collection! And happy to hear it will be released here Oct 1, not Nov 1 as I'd originally heard.

Ever since seeing a preview somewhere (instagram, maybe?), I've been certain about getting the meteorites. Even if they're impractical since I already have and love Hourglass ambient finishing powders, the scent and beautiful packaging will make me happy to see them on my vanity.

Debating the bronzer and may need to see in-person before deciding. I would like something more golden to add some warmth to my skin during the winter months. But do I need to spend $55 on it? Hmmm...

  2. This is a gorgeous collection and I have been waiting for the Meteorites. I loved last years so much that I bought a backup. I am hoping that I love this years too. I currently have the bronzer in 00 so I am not sure that I need another in a different packaging. Thank you for the news, review and swatches. In the luxury brands, not many bloggers review or swatch them. I find that most gear towards the 'Younger" crowd and different brands. So again, thank you!

  3. What a beautiful collection! I was going to get the Hourglass palette, but I think I'll get the meteorites instead. I love them and the packaging is exquisite. I also have my eye on the bronzer, but I need to see swatches first. I would love to get it all, but will have to limit it myself to those pieces. Guerlain has done a gorgeous job!

  4. Thank you, CG, for this wonderful preview! I want everything, but sadly that is not possible. I do think I will splurge on the SOUFFLE D’OR DE SHALIMAR, and the Meteoroites always call to me! Guerlain gives us something fabulous every season, and I love that you review every bit of it for us :)

  5. What a beautiful collection! I used to wear Shalimar back in the late 1970's. It was way too mature for me but I loved it! I recently spritzed some on at a dept. store counter and realized that they must have reformulated it. What a shame.

  6. I collect Météorites and so I'll definitely be adding these new beauties to my collection. The color story is unusual for a holiday collection, but it looks so opulent and festive. I adore Rouge G so that will most probably also come home with me. As for the other products, I can hardly wait to see them and play a bit when they arrive at the counter. I love Guerlain holiday! The fragranced glitter sprays are always fun. I mist them on my décolletage for an evening out. The fragrance is always very subtle and the glitter is super fine. Some of the bottles over the years have been gorgeous. I have Vol de Nuit and Lou permanently displayed on my vanity.

    Hi Grlnxdor,

I also wore Shalimar in the 70's. In recent times (I don't remember when) Guerlain introduced a flanker that was supposed to appeal to younger (more modern) women. I thought it was a pale shadow of the original Shalimar and crossed it off my list. The classic Shalimar was still available but the flanker was what was being pushed. I wonder if that is what you tried. In any event, I have the feeling this collection might cause a renaissance for the classic fragrance. I hope so.

  7. Oops! I meant Liu; not Lou. LOL. Those of you who are Guerlain fragrance buffs probably thought I had taken leave of my senses, but I'll blame it on spellcheck ;-) No matter what you call it, though, that black bottle with gold lettering containing a classic fragrance to rival Chanel No. 5 is stunning.

  8. I have worn 00 Terra Cotta with or without a tan since the Guerlain Makeup Designer picked it out for me 5 years ago. I also llove the Terra Cotta Jolie Tint in Light #1. Rouge G is the best lipstick out there but I find myself only taking it out with me in an evening bag. My favorite is Gracy. I will check this one out as I always do with the new ones. I have gravitated toward the Kiss Kiss inside this brand also and favor Dior, Armani, and Bite. Too bad about Shalimar. I put some on and it didn't smell as I remembere either. But the idea of a powdered spray sounds lovely for the holidays but alas, no one wears much scent in Los Angeles. I stick with Jo Malone, Miss Dior, and the light ones and only wear in the evening and never to restaurants or the theater. People, especially men, who douse are pariahs in LA and only a few women still smell like Giorgio day and night. I can't wait to see all these new Guerlain items. And so happy they arecoming October instead of November. I'm already wearing darker lipstick today. Gigi

  9. I am disappointed they have not done the palettes as in the past few years. Love Shalimar but its not the same fragrance it was, they no longer use sandalwood from Mysore but a cheaper one which has totally changed the perfume.

  10. Hi Gigi48,

I laughed out loud when I read your comment about smelling like Giorgio day and night. I remember those days! Giorgio, Red, Opium, Cinnebar, etc. and we doused ourselves in them with wild abandon. Subtle we weren't! LOL Big hair (I wore my bangs in wings à la Crystal H.), big shoulders (we all looked like fullbacks in stilettos), and even bigger perfumes (probably what got fragrance banned in so many workplaces). Since then, we've gone on to wear lighter, sunnier scents which are more befitting our weather here in La La Land. I still break out the Musc Ravageur, though, as soon as the weather cools off a bit. Living up in Ventura County, that happens a bit sooner than in the rest of the basin so I have many months to revel in my favorite scent. Thanks for the memories :-)

  11. Shalimar is not the same - as well as many of the old Guerlains sadly ( I am a big Guerlain perfume lover and buyer ) but Anon.... try to get your hands on Shalimar Ode a la Vanille sur la Route du Mexique ..... much stronger and richer than the one you can buy now in the shops.

Guerlain ... that IS a Christmas (or Holiday as you say in the US) .. collection!!! I know it will Sell Out here!!!
It looks like something a Woman would love and buy .... unlike those plastic lipsticks called Robe Noire... something my granddaughter would play with! LOL

  12. Thank you for this fabulous post, including N.V.'s application tips. A lot of these items are tempting and the Méteorites are so unique.
