YSL Beauté #31 Eye Shadow Duo - Ombres Duolumières - for Fall 2010

YSL introduced two new eye shadow duos with the Fall 2010 Collection. My selection of Ombres Duolumières ($41) was #31, with a deep shimmering gold and midnight blue pairing. Half of the other duo, #29, with purple amethyst and tawny brown, won't work for me. I am not the right candidate for purple eye shadow (see below).

At first glance, I was even skeptical about #31. I was at Saks, shopping the beauty department with Loyd Cassler from Armani Beauty. As I started to pass on both duos, Loyd said he thought #31 would be beautiful on me. That was all it took to get me to sample.

The gold is sheer, shimmering, and perfect for an allover lid color - for me below the crease. The midnight blue shade is also very sheer. Loyd suggested I wear it as an accent color (making a sideways V) or use it as a liner. He was right, of course. It's very pretty on the lids!

Here is an arm photo. These shades are so sheer, it's hard to get a good photo of them on skin. I think you can see how much shimmer the "solar gold" has. It's not glittery - just shimmering. I like wearing shimmer on my eyelids, so I'm very happy with it.

Below is a photo of #29, the duo I didn't purchase. You might like it if you wear purple eye shadow. The brown shade is nice, and the two shades complement each other well.

The compacts are very classy, with their dual applicators - one large and one narrow. They fit in plastic grooves so they won't rattle around. It's a nice touch! While I will use an eye shadow brush (or liner brush) to apply both shades, it's nice to know that the compact will hold together if I decide to take it along someday.

Early in July, when I gave you a sneak peek at the collection, I showed you the new Ombre Solo Smoothing Effect Eyeshadows ($30). One is Aquamarine; the other is Satin Silver. Both are pretty, but I had to exercise some discipline. I already have many shadows in these shades. It was easy to leave them behind, despite their lovely colors. I don't think they're very autumn-like anyhow.

To see the whole Fall 2010 Collection, just pop over to this link at YSL's Web site. The Rouge Volupté Perle lipsticks get my vote for the irresistible pieces in the collection. I wore #104, Stellar Pink, to work today, and each time I applied it, I was awestruck by how pretty it is. Rouge Volupté Perle feels fabulous and creamy on the lips and offers a subtle gleam. I need to hoard #104!

  1. Hi Clarisse!
You know, I think we will be terribly difficult this fall after seeing the Guerlain palettes...it is very hard for the others to compete...The YSL lipsticks are always wonderful: superb sheen, moist and creamy and lasting ..what else?..:-))
