I have flipped over this year's Mad Men Collection by Estée Lauder. Here's my quick summary. The lipstick is a little darling that I think everyone will want. The powder blush could only be prettier and more desirable if it were a cream blush like last year. The nail lacquer is a pink I'm going to have to purchase.
Let's look at
Pinkadelic Rich, Rich Lipstick ($30). "Turn on your lips to this limited-edition lipstick inspired by the Award Winning AMC Drama MadMen. Creamy, satin finish, and smooth rich lipcolor. The Pinkadelic shade captures the soft-lipped, sexy-innocent Sixties look perfectly. The lipstick case and carton are replicas of actual designs from Estée Lauder's Sixties-era collections, and Pinkadelic is named after one of Estée Lauder's most popular Sixties' lip formulas."
Like last year's Man Men Cherry Lip, which you can see
here, this year's Pinkadelic is more of an everyday color. Last year's bright cherry rose was a little darker than I'd wear to the office, although it was simply gorgeous. I mentioned to you that I sent it recently to a reader who had searched far and wide for the 2012 collection - way too late to find it. I found I wasn't wearing the vibrant shades.
Pinkadelic is a superb color for me - and I suspect most of you. I took swatch photos in very bright sunlight this morning. The sun gave it more sparkle than it has in "real life," but it's a medium pink shade that will make your lips sing indoors or out.

online to order it yet? When I think of Mad Men, I think of glamour. Pinkadelic offers glamour and a femininity that's appropriate for this celebration of the Sixties.
I turned my arm slightly away from the sun to get one photo that wasn't entirely glimmering. I think the photo directly above shows the finish fairly well, even if you can see the sun amping up the left side of the swatch.
Like last year's Mad Men lipstick, Pinkadelic is small - not like a sample, but smaller than your average lipstick. Don't be surprised by that.
Mad Men is a limited-edition collection, so if you want one piece or all of them, I'd recommend that you purchase now. I'll show you the See-Thru Blush after lunch. Perhaps I'll get in my car and drive up to Neiman Marcus to find the nail lacquer this afternoon.

I was originally attracted to this collection because of the nostalgic "Swinging Sixties" packaging, but have been very pleased with the overall quality and the colors themselves. The lipstick is a very pretty, polished and poised pink that is suitable for any occasion. Lipstick, blusher, nail polish--this little collection is a delightfully modern tribute to the early sixties :-)

ReplyDeleteI'm loving the nail polish. THAT is my color. I wouldn't mind it to my natural nail color, year round. The lipstick is pretty. I just have like a million of that color in my stash as I'm always drawn to them.

ReplyDeleteThe color is definitely a modern interpretation of the early sixties before the nude lip came into vogue. We were leaving the deeper reds, oranges, and pinks behind usually by layering white or pearl over them :-P, but colors were still pretty strong. Remember, I've got 5-6 years on you :-)
So do I Joane, and I keep buying them. Too pretty to resist.

ReplyDeleteI got the lipstick. It's actually a bit light and warm on me, and the finish really reminds me of the frosted coral lipsticks my mother wore in the 60's. I went to school and started college in the late 60's and didn't wear much makeup until after college...I like this, but it's a little light for me...my lips are a bit too pigmented, I guess!

Yet another midwest storm...and work...have kept me from sharing in the fun of this post and receiving my 3-piece collection. It is bee-u-ti-ful, and probably the closest thing I'll get to spring for a while yet. Thanks again CG for all your detailed photos. You need the polish though. The whole thing is so feminine I too wish the blush were a cream. It was last year's collection that got me to love cream blush.

ReplyDelete"Your snow" came last night and today. We got a few inches, but the roads were too warm to hold it, so inside the Beltway, it has melted on pavement. Yea! To the west, it was a whole different story.
I love the collection, but also kinda wish the blush had been a cream again. It's beautiful, so I should be happy.

stopped by Nordstrom and checked these out tonight -- the pink is actually a little too cool for me, and it does show some frost in certain light. Not full on 60's but not my style. Very moisturizing formula though, and lasted well. The blush is pretty but I agree, it would have been better as a cream.
