The Friday Forum - October 4
The dogwoods are amont the first trees to show the signs of fall in my garden. Mine aren't this pretty. They look a bit curled too - primary because we have been in a drought.
This past week, my bedroom started to look like a beauty counter. I have so much to tell you, but only so much time to write. The new Guerlain and Chanel collections are next up, along with photos of upcoming collections and a few "odds and ends" I purchased form various sources. I have a lot of fragrances to feature. I find it harder to write about fragrance than makeup, so I'll intersperse those features as I can.
Those of you in Los Angeles (Beverly Hills) and New York will see totally renovated Barneys beauty floors. According to WWD, "the result is a more universal look that exudes Barneys’ modernism. 'We have really been on a quest to create Barneys’ environment in terms of our own architecture and our own aesthetic,' Lee said. 'At the end of the day, what comes out from the design is the products themselves. Ultimately, each brand is also identified by their product, by their packaging, by the colors of their brand and that’s what will come out of the neutral environment.'" Let us know what you think if you shop regularly at these stores.
For Jean Patou fragrance fans, the brand is on a come-back. Although best known for the iconic Joy, Patou had many exquisite perfumes in its stable. One of my favorites was Vacances. We know the house will be re-introducing their famous men's fragrance, but I'm hoping that we see Vacances, Colony, and some other favorites re-launced. I'm sure they won't be the same, with all the new regulations of ingredients, but I can hope.
Have you kept up with the recent runway shows? I have to some extent. Unfortunately, the looks were costume-ish and made as much sense to today's professional as Halloween costumes. Very little tempted me to shop.
It's time for the Friday Forum. I love this part of our week. What new products did you discover this week? Did you find any deals you couldn't resist? Are you using a fabulous product and want to sing its praises? Did you find a beauty product disappointing? Do you have a question others might be able to answer? Want to talk about skin care? What's new in your life? Just use the comments. Don't be shy. Just make sure to ask any question you might have over the weekend. By early the next week, most (not all) readers will have moved on.
I hope you have a great weekend!

Looking forward to the new collections for you to review, CG!
ReplyDeleteI'm actually worried about the government shut down. I won't stir the pot/start any debate or anything. My son go to special education preschool/early intervention and part of the program is unavailable due to furlough. I don't know how long this will last. I know we are one of the fortunate family who can go to private avenues if needs to, but many of his classmates are not as lucky and we have become attached to them & know them personally. I do hope the government will open soon! It's not just the park & national monuments, but little things like this that slip under the radar.
I hope everyone have a good weekend!
Yes..........in fact I am 52 and have a problem with oily T face skin. I´ve tried many products without success, for sure avoiding teenage products. Any recommendations? Many thanks!
ReplyDeleteI put a cap on my makeup purchases some months ago, hence not being as active on your comments page, CG. This week, however, I received my GA Rouge Ecstasy in 510 in the post and tested it out. I am happy with the stain and longevity. 510 is a little darker than I had anticipated and would have done well to have waited and and read your post because 509 probably would've been closer to what I was looking for! No harm, as I still like 510. 509 will be on my radar, however. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi CG! I saw swatches today of Saint-Domingue and I have decided to order this one instead of Carnaby Street- the colors are just more me! I am still loving my Armani CC lipstick in Boudoir. The Chanel and Guerlain holiday collections look amazing and I am especially interested in the Chanel palette for eyes with 5 colors. I eagerly look forward to your thoughts. I hope you have a great weekend! -Sara
ReplyDeleteHello. I'm looking forward to seeing the new Chanel collection as I'll have to wait another month or so before it's on sale in the UK. This week I ordered lots of Armani - several Rouge Ecstasy lipsticks, nail varnishes, Maestro compact foundation, and the Eccentrico Holiday Collection ! My willpower abandoned me :) Have a good weekend.

Hi Alica Cleis! I used to work as a makeup artist and skincare specialist with a number of wonderful brands, and I would highly tout the Peter Thomas Roth brand: http://www.peterthomasroth.com/c-64-shine.aspx. You can try out small sets to see if they work for you, but they are NOT for teenage skin!
ReplyDeleteOn another track, I've been having an issue with a tiny rash right below my nose. I have tried hydrocortisone(sparingly...I hate to use it on my face!), Neosporin, Finacea (for rosacea), and nothing really seems to clear it up. It also seems VERY dry...eczema??? Any ideas out there?
Oh, and product I'm dying to try but refuse to pay $50 for: The Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope lipstick. Sigh...why do good cosmetics have to be so pricey?!? (rhetorical question)
ReplyDeleteI just returned from an appointment with Guerlain's incomparable Marcus Monzon. He was visiting today as part of Nordstrom's two-day beauty bash. I was first given a leisurely and indulgent Orchidée facial by a lovely young esthetician which had me positively purring with pleasure by the time I was put into Marcus' capable hands. And then the real magic began. The Crazy Paris collection had not arrived, but there were so many other wonderful options available. I attend several concerts and concert related events every month from mid-September through the end of May. Consequently, I am always ready for a new evening look and Marcus delivered a real beauty! He used Two Gossip (the deep purple and gold duo), black Khôl Kajal, and black mascara to create a dramatic smoky eye. He then gave me a subtle blush using a light sweep of Joues de Roses in Over Rose and finished the look with Madame Batifole and a touch of gloss.
ReplyDeleteMind you ladies, the smoky eye he created for me was not the black-based one you see on the pretty young things. The look was much more dimensional and contoured which perfectly suits my eyes. Marcus used the gold over my lid up to my crease. He then applied the deep purple on the outer corner and into the crease. He also used a bit of the purple beneath my lower lashes. He lined my upper lashes with the Khôl and smudged it with a bit of the purple and then applied a generous coat of black mascara to upper and lower lashes. His artistic eye and wonderful blending skills resulted in a seamless flow of jewel-like color that will be perfect for evening. I must admit, I was not originally attracted to Two Gossip when it first came out, but Marcus' arresting application completely changed my mind about it. Despite having deep set eyes, my lids glowed thanks to the gold and the green popped compliments of the purple.
Needless to say, I bought the look :-)
I am 39 and have had acne since I was 14. I have tried skin care from every brand. Some worked better than others. I recently began using Omorovicza and it has completely transformed my skin. My face not only looks better but feels better. Having better skin makes me enjoy makeup more simply because everything now looks better. Anyway, so glad you reviewed the Guerlain eyeshadow palette. I can't wait for Chanel. The counters have some of the Chanel holiday items but not all. Anxiously awaiting the arrival of their eyeshadow.

ReplyDeleteI use Metro (abbreviated name) cream for rosacea which helps
the odd skin occurence. It requires a prescription in USA
& is expensive, but perhaps you
could get a sample. - KB

ReplyDeleteThe skin issue you have around your nose sounds like a problem I've had twice around my mouth & nose. I also suspected it to be eczema, but it turned out to be a fungal infection caused by skin creams which were too rich for my skin. I also tried with a mild cortisone treatment, but had to go to a skin specialist eventually because it spreads unless treated correctly.
Every cosmetic company has been devoid of a color I had to try. The Dior lipstick, #999 that is in the new print ads with Natalie Portman. I finally mail ordered it from Nordstrom. It is a beautiful creamy red with a tinge of orange. You may take it a different way but that is what I see. It's best when really put on to coat. Love what it does to my 57 yr skin and face. Love your blog! LOVE IT!
