Tom Ford Beauty Ice Queen Eyeshadow Quad for Holiday 2013
The more I play with Tom Ford's Ice Queen Eyeshadow Quad palette ($78), the more I like it. Today, I was able to get decent swatch photos. Yesterday, the sun played peek-a-boo with me until I went for my annual physical (everything is fine except for a sinus infection). By the time I got home, it was too late to try to take makeup photos. I must disclose that a dear friend in the industry sent me this palette.
Tom Ford believes that his eye color quads are the centerpiece of his collections. I'm not sure I'd agree with that, but I do appreciate their carefully edited beauty. Designed with four opulent, complementary shades that achieve multiple looks, from a bold, smoky eye, to a sexy splash of color and everything in between, the quads have been enormously popular.
Formulated with advanced color processes, the four luxurious finishes - sheer sparkle, satin, shimmer, and matte - offer a spectrum of intensity and effects and deliver incredible shade fidelity and outstanding adhesion. Two custom applicators are included (and one is actually a little brush).
I can see why Ice Queen looks blue to people, but it's not - not even the dark shade in the lower right corner. This palette is all about a silver queen.
I took my photos this morning, long before our day started to cloud over. Charleston, my big baby, oversaw the operation as he enjoyed the sunshine. I swatched with a sponge-tipped applicator.
The very white shade in the top left corner of the palette is bright white. That's actually the name of the paint color that graces my walls. The sheer/sparkle shade in the top right is very sparkly and, while slightly pigmented, is more of a topper shade to add glam to your eyelids than a shade I'd wear alone. As a result, you see a rather uneven swatch on my arm.
The charcoal is just that, not blue. Don't even think about it as blue. It's charcoal. Does it lean blue? Perhaps - a deep, dark, midnight blue - but the overall effect is charcoal. I do think it would complement a blue look beautifully.
The shade in the lower left corner of the palette is my favorite. It's a shade that does have a touch of blue in it, but in no way looks blue on the eyelids. It looks white.
These are definitely cool, winter shades. I think they are fun, but I won't be wearing them to work. They are a bit too dramatic for work wear. Wear them at night, and you will definitely glow. Perhaps you can be an ice queen - even if you're the life of the holiday party.
If you want to order from this collection, call Dustin Lujan at the John Barrett Salon in New York City. You can reach Dustin there at (212) 872-2714. They offer free shipping now too! I think by now, everyone knows (and loves) Dustin.

I just ordered Ice Queen. But in my humble opinion, Cg, Ice Queen can't hold a candle to that Charlie of yours. I adore that last pic of him. Mr. Squint! I miss my kitty so please hug and kiss C for me.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nemo. I will. I know what it's like to miss a cat. I still cry when I think about my babies who are waiting at the Rainbow Bridge.
ReplyDeleteHi Charlestongirl,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful palette! Tom Ford Ice Queen looks like a beautiful set of colors to play with in the chilly days ahead :)
I love reading your posts. I just do. I know for sure I'll pass this quad up. It's too cool for my skin tone. Plus with just my Diorshow Fusion shadows, Chanel Illusion D'Ombre shadows, and Tom Ford quads and trios, I have enough shimmer and glitter to make up a Cirque de Soleil troupe. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI do love the charcoal though.
ReplyDeleteThe picture of the young blue-eyed woman with the pale blond hair exemplifies the type of woman who would look gorgeous in Ice Queen. With all it's pale wintry shades, it would not be nearly so successful on those of us with warmer, deeper coloring. That's OK, though, because I love TF's way with color and appreciate that he doesn't try to create "universal" palettes suitable for everyone. A lot of thought goes into his color selections which means when a palette works for me, it works brilliantly.
ReplyDeleteYour special friend who gifted you with this palette knew what he was doing. It was made for someone with pale blond beauty just like yours. I hope you won't just save it for evening because I think it would be gorgeous on you on a frosty winter day. Slim wool slacks, a kitten soft cashmere sweater, and Ice Queen. You'd be stunning!
But now, for the real beauty of this post--Charlie! What a sweetie, he is. I laughed when Nemo called him Mr. Squint and I cried when you mentioned The Rainbow Bridge. I get choked up every time I read that poem and think about those dear little souls waiting for me.
Hi Charlestongirl!
ReplyDeleteI don't feel that dramatic and wouldn't have the use for that palette but I'm writing to say I love seeing Charlie in your pictures, he always makes me smile:-) Big hug to him (and you of course!)
I hate to start Sunday morning out on a sad note, but I must tell you how I think about that Rainbow Bridge constantly. I want to see them all and call their names and have them run to me. Glad you feel the same, Cg. Now, back to the sins of life: there is a sexy blue James Perse dress I want that would be perfect for the Ice Queen quad I just bought!
ReplyDeleteNemo, I just cried through Scent of Triumph. Read it, a Kindle book, on my iPad this weekend. No tears left. It was a wonderful book, despite the sadness.
ReplyDeleteI'll put the loss of my kids back in memories for the rest of the day. I'm looking at my beautiful Charlie on "his" easy chair, bathing in the sun. We are enjoying an extra hour this morning.
I had never heard of the Rainbow Bridge, I only knew the Paradise for all animals...I Googled it and found a lovely poem: now I am sure all my beloved pets are waiting for me at that place with such a gorgeous name:-)
