Tom Ford Beauty Nude Dip Eye Color Quad for Fall 2014

I took a time out, and the very next day I'm back with The Tom Ford Nude Dip (#03) Eye Color Quad ($79) for Fall 2014. There is a story that accompanies this, but I'll show you the quad before I tell you the story. It's gorgeous, don't you think?

The colors jumped right off the display. It is - in my opinion - the best piece in Ford's Fall collection. The lip colors are dark and opaque (not me), and the duo blush/contour palettes did not impress me.

I got home from Neiman Marcus, palette in hand, less than 30 minutes ago. I rushed outside, took photos in full, 4:00 pm sun, and here we are. Swatches! I used a sponge-tipped applicator to apply all shades fairly heavily, starting at top left and moving clockwise around the palette as I worked my way down my arm.

I love every shimmering shade in the quad. Perhaps I should call them gleaming because that's the effect they leave on the eyelids. The champagne ivory at the top of my arm is a perfect base or highlighter shade. The rose gold? What can I say? I love rose gold, and it's stunning. One of the best I've seen.

The brown is the perfect shade of brown for my fair skin - not too light, not too dark. The rosy taupe at the bottom? Sheer perfection. The shadows seem to apply well and stay put. In the short time I had to play with it, I had no dust flying.

It's clear why everyone has been drooling over this palette since the first photos hit the Internet. It is exquisite. If you have not secured your own, it is selling out at stores where they haven't put it out. That's the story below.

I called Neiman Marcus Tysons Galleria this afternoon and asked if the for-sale product has arrived at the store. I was told that it would not be released until Beauty Week, per the department manager's orders. That's September 11, isn't it? I threw a hissy fit. I explained that I am a blogger, don't give a rat's patoot about Beauty Week and the GWP, and I needed mine now (I had pre-ordered), and if they wouldn't sell it to me, I would call a California store for it. She finally told me I could come get it.

When I arrived at the store, I explained my prior conversation with the woman who was then at the counter. She was reluctant to help me. I was insistent. A customer eyed the display and asked about the palette. She was told the fall items wouldn't arrive until Beauty Week. Then the manager happened by where I was sitting, motioned at the display, and said, "Sold Out." I explained that I was on the pre-sale list, and I had come to purchase mine today. She and a sales associate went to the back room with the stock and got it out. I left with it.

I don't think customers should be jerked around for the sake of meeting Beauty Week sales goals. That's not a customer-friendly policy. If you are on the pre-sale list at Tysons, and you don't care about points, GWPs, and the like, go over there and demand your makeup - as long as you purchased on pre-sale.

God only knows where you can purchase this palette today. Be persistent. Now, I'm going back to my time out.

  1. The Chicago NM has their stock and they are not waiting until the beauty event. I did pre-order mine though and picked it up last week. It is my first quad from TF and it's beautiful. The taupe reminds me of the powder version of Platinum crème shadow that I love. That is bad policy by NM to hold out for an event. Also heard that TF is going to be available in some Nordstrom stores this year.

  2. It's lovely. No question. Susan, London

  3. I'm glad some NM stores care about selling to us when we want to buy!

  4. What a beauty, thanks for sharing the review + pictures with us!

And what's up with that tactics?? I've never heard such things, I expect better CS from NM. Although I must admit that I laugh a bit when you said, "rat's patoot" -- I don't think I've hard someone said that for a long time :-)

Speedy recovery, CG, continued best wishes & luck for the knee(s).

  5. Thank you so much for sharing swatches with us! Honestly, yours are the best I have seen. I really can understand how the colors look like from them. I wish you to recover fast and will miss you very much. You always add such a nice personal touch to all your reviews. I just pray that God Bless hands of the doctor who will do a surgery on your Knee. And wish you an easy recovery afterwards.

  6. That is ludicrous CG. If anyone is having trouble just call the SF store and they will have one sent to you from the warehouse. I am on the pre-sale list but I called the store on Friday to see when they would be getting the collection. The SA said they hope to have it on Monday but if I wanted to order now she could have the items shipped from the warehouse for me to receive either Tuesday or Wednesday this week. They are not waiting until Beauty Week to put it on display once they get the items. You can also buy from the Tom Ford website and I think Bergdorf's has the collection available now as well. I would not hesitate at least with the eye quad it is going to sell out fast.

I would boycott Tyson's NM during beauty week if I were you CG.

Your swatches are gorgeous. Thanks for the preview. Can't wait to get mine later this week.

  7. Thanks for the heads up, CG. I know where I'll be heading after work on Friday. This after some seriously gross sales techniques to even place my TF pre-sale. I don't care about points or gifts- I just want my items. And not add a bunch of other items to pad sales. Just the items I ordered. UGH!

  8. I totally love the new collection. The mocha mascara is a beautiful bronze that complements the palette perfectly. NM King of Prussia still has the collection and can order directly from the factory. Just ask for Tanya at the Tom Ford counter. She's awesome. Their phone number, in case anyone is interested is 610-354-0500.

  9. I second what Jo said about Neiman Marcus San Francisco. They were wonderfully helpful and had the product sent out as soon as it was available. No Beauty Week games!

I already waxed poetic ;-) about Nude Dip on the Friday Forum so I won't repeat myself here. I must say, though, Charlestongirl, that your swatches actually capture the gleaming finish and depth of color. I've seen swatches on a couple of other blogs and the colors look a tad washed out and mundane. Perhaps it's overly bright studio lights that are doing that. Your swatches, on the other hand, actually do justice to this beauty. Once again, Tom Ford has captured my heart.

  10. hi charleston girl!!! i certainly hope you feel better!! i'm not sure what i'm going to do if you're not posting but, big wishes for a speedy recovery are sent to you!! i also pre-ordered this...still hesitant because i'm weary of buying makeup without trying it on. but, thankyou for the wonderful swatches. as i share the same coloring as you, could you please recommend some cheek and lip colors to coordinate with this quad? unfortunately i do not have a tom ford counter near me. when i asked for other suggestions, i was advised to purchase the 2 new lip offerings. the sales associate said to press the color in with my fingers like they did on the model. i'm just not comfortable doing that. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thankyou!! best wishes to you!!! xxoo.

  11. What a game they play! If they have it, sell it. We don't have a Tom Ford counter in St. Louis, so I have to call other cities to try to get it. I ended up getting it from a lovely woman at the Tom Ford counter at Bergdorfs in NYC and I cannot wait to receive it. Should get it any day now... I wasn't blown away by any of his other quads (why in the hell would an adult high-end woman want a whole pan of glitter in an 80 dollar quad?!) but this one from all photos is a winner.

  12. I guess I'm the only one not loving this palette. I was pretty sure I'd be buying it, but when I swatched it in person (Chicago NM) it was a big letdown for me. I'm not in love with the frost--and it is FROSTY. The top two colors show up nearly identically on my skin (warm fair), and really just look like a high-sheen highlighters. I'll be passing in favor of neutral palettes from other realeases.

But if you must have it call Reena at NM Chicago--she's ready to sell it to you!

  13. I think this TF eye quad bears a strong resemblance to CHANEL's Poesie. What do you think???

  14. Anonymous from August 26: You're not the only one who isn't inclined to buy this palette. I also have warm, fair skin, and I thought the three lightest shades blended together just a bit too much on my arm also.

Different strokes for different folks. :)

  15. Nemo, two of the four shades are similar. Not dupes, but similar.

  16. I want to say a big thank you to Jo and Eileen. I thought I had missed out on this palette, but I was able to call SF and they placed an order for me.

I can't wait to receive it, I am so excited. Thank you so much for the info!

  17. Almost forgot (because of my excitement) thank you for these swatches, I think your pictures pushed me over the edge and I felt like I really *needed* this.

Take care and I hope you have a fast recovery CG.

  18. Miss you! MISS YOU!!!!

  19. Will this palette be for sale online anywhere, or is it in-store only?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Susan, I don't know. It is a limited edition, and the stores are going to make the most of it. I have heard it can be ordered at Saks online, but I cannot find it.

  21. This is a beautiful palette! I have a wish list for my birthday next month and this just found a perfect spot on that list! :)
Thanks for sharing and posting the swatches. I always look forward to seeing your swatches when getting ready to make a purchase. Take care and be well! You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

  22. We will miss you while you are on break. On the bright side, I had thought to save a little money without your tempting posts, but the you wave this in front of me! LOL! Hope you heal and recover CG.

  23. Just placed order at SF Neiman and told it was sold out but did I want something else. Very interesting. So of course I ordered something else and was able to get this palette too. Thanks for the swatches. Helpful!

  24. Just ordered Nude Dip on Neiman Marcus website!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm not tempted in the least. CG, I have seen so many similar swatched palettes on your arm with minimal differences...I can't imagine that the majority of these palettes are that different from one to the next!

Just not impressed. I think if you have a few similar, there's no need for more. So...not for me!

  26. Good news everyone! The Tom Ford collection is now for sale online at Neiman Marcus!!

  27. Hope you feel better. Love reading your blog.!

  28. That sheer, light one is gorgeous. The rest are not for me but I can see them looking fabulous on most people.

  29. Saks and Nordstrom have it posted online but it's shown as Sold Out. Hopefully, another raft of this eye quad will be distributed in a few weeks. It looks gorgeous.

  30. They have the full collection for sale now at Bloomingdales.com!

  31. I went to Tom Ford in Vegas today and Nude Dip is sold out. They told me to try Neiman or Bergdorf. I called Bergdorf NY and was able to preorder it. I was told they expect it to be available on Wednesday.

  32. I don't know if you are still reading CG, but thought you would be amused to hear that the tales of endeavour you and others have had to endure in order to buy this elusive palette in the US, panicked me into thinking it would be the same over here in the UK. I took to haunting my Selfridges sales associate with requests to pre-order, in case it ran out before I could get to the counter. She looked at me like I was mad. They came in yesterday. There is no rush. There is loads of stock. Customers are limited to buying only ... 6 each!! Susan, London

  33. Hi Charleston Girl! Longtime fan here. I adore your posts, swatches, and take on things. I just purchased this quad and other items from Tom Ford Fall 2014 on his website!! I would recommend people check it out there, as I know Saks is listing it as sold out.

  34. The colors are pretty basic but looks amazing! It's something I'd love to get one day.

  35. Hi,

I was not lucky enough to find nude dip online and pretty much called every store that was listed as possibly having the quad with no luck.

But, then I did live chat with a Neiman Marcus associate. She said it was sold out in all the stores, but they have a new shipment coming in 9/16/14 and she let me pre-order with free s/h.

If anyone is still looking, I would suggest you try live chat with NM. I don't know how many they have coming in, so I would hurry.

I read that NM has been releasing it online sporadically but it sells out very fast.

  36. This is such a pretty palette, Mr. Ford really seems to know what he's doing, doesn't he? :-) I love that you also have very fair skin, because I can't handle very dark colors, and it was great to read that this had the perfect brown "that wasn't too dark" for your skin tone. All the colors look so pretty! :-) Also, I think I will definitely start using "rat's patoot" :-), I'm sorry you had such a hard time (I'll never understand why companies treat their customers like that, especially someone like you who gives them so much business), but now I have a new, fun little phrase to use. :-) Thanks so much for sharing this with us! :-)
