The Friday Forum - November 4

Yesterday, I attended a makeup extravaganza featuring Tim Quinn from Giorgio Armani Beauty at Saks Fifth Avenue in Chevy Chase. It was crazy busy, but a blast. They were featuring Armani's new palette Eye and Face Palette Limited Edition Holiday 2016 ($140), which I purchased (naturally), Ecstasy Lacquer Limited Edition Holiday 2016 ($38) for the lips (ditto on the purchase), and Tim, the star of the show.

I asked Tim to select a Fluid Sheer for me when he "did my makeup," and he chose the light pink #7. Perfect choice! I might have loved any color he chose since I was drinking mimosas for lunch as I had my makeup perfected. I had a blast!

I haven't had time to take photos of anything I've purchased in the last week. I have had another week of doctor's appointments. I'll summarize with 1) a trip to the Emergency Room ending in a diagnosis of a bruised chest wall, 2) "closure" of my sinus infection with a clean CT scan, 3) an annual wellness exam, and 4) a trip to the outpatient lab for blood work today. I am looking forward to the end of all these doctor's visits.

I really intended to write this week, but between appointments and clouds, I had no time to take photos or write. I've felt like a a gerbil running on a wheel.

The latest Tom Ford Collection has arrived at Neiman Marcus. I just saw it and found it drool-worthy. You might want to check it out. The palette above is Soleil Eye and Cheek Palette ($155) in warm, my choice.

I'm sure I don't have to tell you that Sephora's 20% off sale for VIB Rouge members started today. I did a quick scan last night and found very little that enticed me. I have to go look more closely soon before the most desirable pieces start to sell out. I'd love to know what you are eying so that I can see what I've missed.

It's time for the Friday Forum (and my lunch!). The Friday Forum has always been an opportunity to share information. Are you using a fabulous product and want to sing its praises? Tell us about it! Did you find a beauty product disappointing? Tell us why! Do you have questions others might be able to answer? We can help! Want to talk about skin care? I'm game. Just use the comments. We have busy weekends and slow ones on the forum. I hope to see you in the comments.

  1. Chantecaille's holiday colors are out. Two new Mermaid eye colors, matte lip colors, and three products designed for kids. As always, their PR is non-existent.

  2. I ordered the Tom Ford palette in warm from Neiman Marcus, but it hasn't arrived yet. From Sephora, I purchased some Christophe Robin items, Tom Ford's Fire Lust(I didn't try it the first time it came out, and I'm wondering how it compares to Rouge Bunny Rouge highlighters), Omorovicza's new oxygen booster, and a few Drunk Elephant items(DE is great for my skin when I've been trying too many new products). Guerlain's holiday meteorites had sold out before I placed my order. I think I might give the Chantecaille mermaid eye color in copper a try.

    Happy Friday!

  3. Pemberley, I picked up my warm palette today. I think you will love it. Ditto on Fire Lust.

I ordered a hodgepodge of things from Sephora. I'll put up the list tomorrow.

  4. I stocked up on skincare online and actually went to a store today. Came home empty handed. Makeup apathy has set in. Odd. I will be stopping in a larger Sephora to look for a color match in the Surratt foundation. That's all I seem to want is more foundations. :)
Looking forward to seeing everyone's lists!

  5. My Sephora order was quite small...replacement items (Shiseido Facial cotton and Verb Ghost Oil) and Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Foundation, which I wanted to try. I'll see if there will be another order...right now I doubt it.

  6. Recently purchased Sunday Riley Good Genes and Luna Sleeping Night Oil. Love both products and have seen improvement in my skin in just a week! I also ordered the Tom Ford palette in cool and I hope it's as nice as the pictures I have seen online.

  7. I'm just a regular VIB, not Rouge VIB, so I'll have to see if my wish list items are still available on Nov. 11. I sort of hope they aren't as I've had some unexpected expenses pop up recently and of course the holidays take a big hit on my bank account. Sunday Riley Juno and Good Genes plus Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray for my daughter are the items I plan to buy. With envy and admiration I will leave all things pretty from Armani and Tom Ford for the rest of you :).
Has anyone ever used Kevin Murphy hair care products? I'm loving this Australian line since my stylist introduced me to it. My must haves are the Angel Wash and Angel Rinse for fine colored hair. I'm also looking at Doo Over when my Oribe Texturizing spray is gone.

  8. Like Petunia, I purchased primarily skin care and sunscreen along with a few stocking-stuffers and hostess gifts. Most of the makeup I wear is not available at Sephora, I already have it, or, by the time the sale rolls around, the special items I might have wanted have already sold out. I'm not complaining mind you. I saved well over $200 this year and so I say, "Thank you, Sephora!" I purchased most items online via Ebates and so there will be a nice cash back bonus coming along which sweetens the deal even more. Love Sephora! Love Ebates!

I stopped by the actual store because I was hoping to pick up one of the Armani Lip Magnets. Unfortunately, none of the colors looked quite right on me. Since it would have been more of a curiosity, let's give it a try type of purchase, I decided to give it a miss. I consoled myself, though, with two NARS eye shadows ;-). I bought Himalia and Callisto. We were out with friends the other evening and I couldn't take my eyes off of the stunning smoky eye look that my gal pal had created. It was done in deep shades of brown rather than the more conventional black and it had a gleam to it that was chic and elegant rather than having that "clubbing" vibe. When I asked her about it, she said that she had used those two eyeshadows along with a chocolate brown and an espresso brown that she had in one of her palettes. Anyway, I stopped by Sephora and bought those two so that my friend can give me a lesson when she comes to lunch later in the week. Should be fun :-)

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Halloween. Every year we get a couple hundred people visiting our community, but this year we had even more. Perhaps it was because of the gorgeous weather we had that night. Whatever the reason, though, it was great to see so many families out and about; having fun. But now it's time to gear up for Thanksgiving. The parade of holidays has begun! Have a great weekend, everyone.

  9. As you can see, I bought odds and ends. Some were lip colors I already have and will serve as back-ups.

  10. In the shops today and did not see that lovely Armani palette. We sometimes do not get all the range here.
Looked at the YSL Rouge couture lipsticks.... very nice but they did not have the colour I wanted - sold out ... No. 57 ...oh so nice.

  11. Hi Pemberly,

Fire Lust is different from RBR in that it has a more pearly finish. Once it warms up and melds with your skin, it gives you a natural looking glow like a summer's late afternoon sun playing on your complexion. It is warm and burnished and, like any good highlighter, it can be sheered out or ramped up; it can be used on its own or mixed with other products. Fire Lust glows and gleams rather than shines and sparkles. Think late afternoon or sunset on a hot summer day. If the color suits you, I think you're going to love Fire Lust.

    Hi Lady Jicky,

It's a shame your store didn't have YSL's #57 in stock. It's a beautiful and interesting shade that is perfect for spring and, since you're in the Land Down Under, spring it is :-) I love its soft, luminous satin finish and how sometimes it leans red; sometimes it leans pink. Very pretty!

  12. My consolation for this nasty cold I managed to catch was to do some VIB shopping online. I needed a new Korres peel but the rest of the items I picked up were new things to try or Christmas gifts for my sister. I did get one of the new Armani Lip Magnets in one of the more berry type colors and assorted lip colors from Bite and Huda Beauty, some hair care and a Marc Jacobs blush I've been eyeing since the Air Blush came out. I also got the Hearth candle from Nest - I really enjoy these every year. I put some gift cards I had received to very good use. =)

Eileen - I'd love to hear how your friend used those eye shadows, I have them too! I'm always looking for ways to wear them because my brain needs a creative kick. lol

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend everyone!

  13. CG, I am sorry you had so many medical issues. Hopefully, that will be it now. Any word on the new job?
I am not a Sephora VIB- don't know how to become one and when I asked yesterday as I needed some shampoo, the clerk was unhelpful and said she didn't know. Oh well. I bought some Kiehl's shampoo and received very nice customer service as well as two deluxe samples to try: their cranberry mask and smoothing oil infused conditioner. I used to wash my hair with Kiehl's all the time but then stopped and am now going back to Kiehl's. Love their hand salve, also. I have played with the Jo Malone Orange Bitters scent and really like it.
    Have a good week,
    Tanja

  14. Hi Tanja,

Anyone can ask for a Beauty Insider (BI) card at Sephora. It's free. If you spend $350 per calendar year, you bump up to a VIB. If you spend $1,000 per calendar year, you bump up to a VIB Rouge. Sephora keeps track of your purchases and notifies you when you've qualified for the next level. So, just tell your Sephora SA you want to be a Beauty Insider :-) As a customer loyalty incentive, VIB Rouges get first crack at the goodies during F&F sales. Next come the VIB's. I don't know about BI's since anyone can get a card even if only making a very small purchase.

  15. Thank you, Eileen. You make Fire Lust sound lovely. I found CG's post from when it first arrived on the scene, and I'm eager to try it for myself.

  16. Tanja - that clerk in Sephora wasn't doing her job - I'm sure she knows, but didn't feel like taking the time to explain! I'll just suggest that you go on the Sephora website - it's explained in great detail!

I lied...I said I wasn't going to place a 2nd order at Sephora, but of course, I did.

TokyoMilk Dark Femme Fatale Collection - Novacaine No. 85

Giorgio Armani Beauty Lip Magnet Liquid Lipstick - 601 ATTITUDE

Laura Mercier Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder Color 1

Marc Jacobs Beauty Air Blush Soft Glow Duo 504 Kink & Kisses

I also have 2 more inexpensive items in my cart as we speak...

  17. Hi Bisbee,

I laughed when you said you'd lied about not placing a second order. I always say that and always end up either visiting the store or placing another order :-) I think yo'll really like Kind & Kisses. It is such an easy to wear pink coral and the soft and subtle glow is so natural looking. I also love that you can skew the color just by using more of one end than the other. MJ did a good job on these blushers.

I haven't tried the LM Candleglow powder yet but I've heard some good things about it. I've always been a fan of finishing powders that add some real-skin glow and amp up the luminosity.

It sounds like your second order ;-) contains some great products.

  18. Eileen and bisbee, thank you so much for that information. That is very helpful. I do most of my beauty shopping at Nordstrom so it would be a push to qualify for the Sephora discount.
Thanks again and have a good week,
    Tanja

  19. Hi Tanja,

You're very welcome. That's one of the great things about the Friday Forum--we can share intel ;-)

I do most of my cosmetic shopping at Nordstrom's as well because Sephora doesn't carry the brands I favor or, if they do, they are very limited or they are not on counter so I can't try before I buy. Where I rack up the bucks, though, is on Jack Black products for me and my sons and on holiday gifts. I usually buy enough during the F&F sale to qualify for another year as a Rouge :-) It helps that we have some of the friendliest and most helpful SA's at the Sephora where I usually shop. If you yourself are not a VIB or VIB Rouge, perhaps you know someone who is. I have a friend that I take along to the F&F event and she is able to get my discount.

Have a great rest of the week.
