By Terry Hyaluronic Blush from the Summer Splash Collection

By Terry's Summer Splash Collection is filled with beautiful colors and multiple new products. I was shopping at the SPACE.NK boutique at Tysons Corner Center and grabbed a few photos of the Hyaluronic Blush, which jumped right out at me. "Try me!"

To use its proper name, Hyaluronic Blush Hydra-Veil Print Flush Ultra-Stay Fresh Glow ($42) is available in two shades: Peach Posh and Blushberry - both gorgeous. I'd be hard pressed to choose only one, so I took swatch photos to "think about it" this week.

This hyaluronic acid foam-enhances the cheeks and prominent facial areas with fresh, eye-catching and ultra-lasting sheer color. Its formula is composed of "a high-tech color technology" that offers a perfect balance between coverage and transparency while holding color on the skin - like a temporary tattoo, according to By Terry. I'm not sure that's a nice analogy for a gorgeous blush.

Whipped hyaluronic acid provides the whippped finish of the gel-cream hybrid. Galanga leaf extract helps treat imperfections. Mother of pearl pigments give the color a subtle sparkle, and the blush provides a beautiful aqueous matte veil on the skin - the combination leading to what By Terry calls matte iridescent.

I took swatch photos in full, mid-day sun, outside the store, and I had no idea how they would look on the blog. I didn't have much to deal with outside the store, so I selected a small spot of shrub roses (surrounded by concrete and sidewalk). While they aren't the best, my photos show the two shades fairly accurately.

I tried to apply them heavily with my fingers. I found that led to a gloppy appearance, so I blended them into my arm - just enough to show you their sheerness, but to keep enough color to differentiate them on the skin. Peach Posh is shown at the top of my arm, with Blushberry below.

Both shades are absolutely gorgeous when blended into the skin - not at all helpful when deciding which one to purchase. I think Peach Posh is better for fair complexions, and Blushberry, a brown rose, is probably the best choice for medium to dark complexions.

I'm sure you can see the sparkles. I found them pretty. By Terry calls the finish matte iridescent. Can you have a sparkly matte? I think not, but it's a perfect description of the matte finish dotted with little sparklies.

I love the whipped texture and blendability of these blushes. I can tell you based on my swatching experience that they will last a long time on the skin. It took a few washings to remove them from my blending fingers. The new Hyaluronic Bronzing Hydra-Veils shown on the display (above) have the same divine texture.

You can find By Terry at the SPACE.NK Web site or in the boutiques. I'm lucky we have a SPACE.NK inside Bloomingdale's here.

By Terry Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge Lipstick

Wow! When By Terry sent this preview of their new Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge ($35) lipsticks, I drooled. I love By Terry, and the use of the word "sheer" sent me into "can't wait" mode. I had to wait no longer when I called the SPACE.NK manager at Bloomingdale's and found that the lipsticks had arrived. I drove over with the intention of purchasing three to try. I came home with five. Think I liked them?

There are ten shades available. From left to right in the photo above, they are #1 Nudissimo, #2 Mango Tango, #3 Baby Bloom, #4 Princess in Rose, and #5 Dragon Pink. I saw already in trouble. I loved all of these.

Then I started playing with the darker shades. From left to right in the photo above, they are #6 Party Girl, #7 Bang Bang, #8 Hot Spot, #9 Dare to Bare, and #10 Berry Boom. The love grew.

I ended up selecting #1 Nudissimo, #3 Baby Bloom, #5 Dragon Pink, #8 Hot Spot, and #9, Dare to Bare. I wanted a cross section of shades and intensities.

I had to take my swatch photos in freezing wind. I swatched rather messily, and ran outside without my coat to get photos. My photos of the tubes themselves were total failures because they rolled all over the place before I could snap. It was that bad outside. I am almost ashamed to show you the photo below. I had to give up on getting the tubes lined up evenly. They were moving!

The tubes are shown in numeric order. As listed above, they are, from left to right, #1 Nudissimo, #3 Baby Bloom, #5 Dragon Pink, #8 Hot Spot, and #9, Dare to Bare. My swatch photos, taken in full sun, are shown in the same order, top to bottom on my freezing arm.

Nudissimo is a beautiful light, warm pink. It's not really nude. Baby Bloom is a soft, cool pink. I think it's beautiful. Dragon Pink is a bright blue pink. It certainly makes my blue eyes pop. It's not a shade everyone can wear, but fortunately, there are 10 shades from which to choose - and you will want to choose.

Hot Spot, a coral shade, is a departure for me, but I wanted one of the peaches, and I loved it. My absolutely favorite among favorites is Dare to Bare. It's my typical love: brown rose. It's so flattering.

I would categorize By Terry's Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge Lipsticks as semi-sheer. They provide a lot more pigment than many lipsticks called "sheer." They are slightly shiny - enough to give them life, but not sparkling. They feel ultra-creamy on the lips, and the hydration and color last nicely. Thumbs up to By Terry!

I purchased mine at the SPACE.NK in Bloomingdale's at Tysons Corner Center. I see online that they are available at SPACE.NK, Barneys New York, and b~glowing.com. I know By Terry has a Web site too.

My By Terry Makeup Fun

Two weeks ago, I had a wonderful By Terry makeup session at SPACE.NK at Bloomingdale's at Tysons Corner Center. Brian Bracero, National Trainer & Makeup Artist, was visiting for two days, and Camille Pellegrino, the manager there, made sure I got an appointment. I am so glad! I loved the look he created for me.

I was most impressed with the eye shadow colors he selected for me. He started with a base of Ombre Blackstar "Color-Fix" Cream Eyeshadow ($42.50-$43.00) in #3, Blond Opal, a great, gleaming base shade for me. I'd even wear it alone on the lid below the crease. Then he skillfully applied two shadow shades in Ombre Veloutee Powder Eye Shadow ($40). He used two golden, summery shades on me. Peach Loukoum is shown at left above, with Creme Brûlée shown to the right of it. Sorry, no accent marks in this feature! I will correct when my Internet comes back.

Here are some swatch photos, taken in full sun. I applied Blond Opal directly from the tube at the top of my arm, Peach Loukoum in the middle, and Creme Brûlée at the bottom. I applied the powders with a sponge-tipped applicator.

I really loved the eyeliner he selected, but I haven't purchased it yet. I've saved it for my next By Terry treat. Crayon Kohl Terrybly in Bronze Generation will be mine soon. It's very dark, but complements a golden, summery look perfectly.

Of course, he used By Terry foundation, blush, and lip colors on me. I purchased a "my lips but darker" lipstick I didn't have.

I'll show you that another day. I am really constrained with what I can do until I get my Internet service back. I am still using a neighbor's computer. I continue to have no Internet or wireless access, and Verizon is now denying to the local news that they a wireless problem. This situation has been very frustrating. I can't type on my friend's computer very well, so I'll apologize before publication for any typos.

Here I am with Brian. He is a superb artist. He was fast too. I've had makeup sessions that lasted twice as long. I gave him free rein to select colors - no restrictions. He chose colors I loved, and he applied them amazingly quickly. I hope he returns soon.

If you get a chance to schedule a session with Brian, do it! He's fun and has a great eye for color. Plus, he's using fabulous makeup. By Terry is available at SPACE.NK - in store and on their Web site.

By Terry Rouge Terrybly Shimmer Lipstick

By Terry Rouge Terrybly ($48-49) Lipstick is a volumizing and firming lipstick enriched with the By Terry-exclusive anti-aging Lumilip Technology to rejuvenate and embellish the lips. I have a Shimmer shade, Love Affair, that is drop-dead gorgeous. All of its wonderful qualities are nice, but it's the color that sings!

Rouge Terrybly is an extra-moisturizing and plumping "lip elixir" that combines rich colors and active ingredients that work to prevent thining of the lips. Isn't that nice for women of a certain age?  Filled with ultra-pure, high-color pigments, the texture offers saturated and extra-smoothing color. The color glides onto the lips smoothly and reshapes the contours without any heaviness, plumping them without drying. Rouge Terrybly is very delicately fragranced.  Give it a few moments on your lips, and the lovely fragrance is gone.

Not a fan of sheer lip colors? This one's for you. When you see the color in the tube, you can be assured that's what you'll get on your lips.

Isn't the color of Love Affair (#803) exquisite? It's a vibrant rose with a silvery sheen and a touch - just a hint - of lavender in the shade. I was stunned the first time I used it. Even though I'm not accustomed to wearing saturated lip colors, this one looks fabulous - like it was made for me.

I was able to take my photos in three different sunny locations on two occasions, and you can see the subtle differences in color. This lipstick reflects light beautifully, and it morphs a bit with different exposures.

You'll get one of these shades on your lips. Which one may depend on the lighting conditions in your surroundings. On me indoors, it looks most like the first swatch photo here.

You can purchase By Terry products at SPACE.NK.apothecary. There are many beautiful Rouge By Terrybly shades - to suit every taste - if rose pink isn't your cup of tea.

BY TERRY Blush Terrybly Ultimate Radiance Blush in Platonic Coral

Not everyone likes pink blush. I'll admit to featuring pink tones more often than others because that's what I usually buy. BY TERRY seduced me with peach recently.  Blush Terrybly Ultimate Radiance Blush ($75) in Platonic Coral (#3) is a beauty. Like the Erotic Pink shade I purchased, everything about the blush is elegant, from the oversized indigo blue carton through the purple satin drawstring pouch to the heavy zamak compact with a cleverly shaped brush to sit inside. Designed to sit in the palm of the hand, like a talisman to magically enhance your charm, the compact feels like something you'll want to use to glamorize your day. Some luxury-priced makeup doesn't wow with its presentation. Blush Terrybly does. Fortunately, this blush isn't simply about presentation. It combines gorgeous color with unique technology to prompt your skin to look its best.

Three of the seven pretty shades of Blush Terrybly reached out to grab me at our local SPACE.NK boutique. I told you about the technology behind the blush let's recap. Blush Terrybly boasts BY TERRY's Freshtone Technology, a proprietary formulation that concentrates vitamins and amino acids to boost cheekbone volume by stimulating the adipocyte skin cells (fat cells - really). The effect on the cheeks is uniquely lifting and volume enhancing. Basically, volume equals smooth, plump, and young skin.

The technology also boosts fibroblasts and promotes collagen stimulation, helping to slow the aging process by stimulating skin renewal. With the antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E, Blush Terrybly actively protects the skin against free radical damage.

The radiance that characterizes Blush Terrybly is a result of micro-prism and mineral pigments that make the skin glow. There are also silicon polymers for a smooth application. The blush is lightly fragranced with the divine scent of rose.

The pretty peach you see in the compact comes to life on the skin, with a warm, color that sings summer. The powder is so nicely textured (no fall out from this one), it resisted my blush brush on first use. I "roughed up" the pretty surface of the compact - just a little - with a sponge-tipped applicator to encourage the compact to give up its treasures.

For my swatch photos, I applied Platonic Coral very heavily at the top of my arm with a sponge-tipped applicator at the top and with a dense blush brush below. Had I applied the shade normally, it would not have photographed well. It's beautifully sheer.

This color is gorgeous - a coral peach that's warm and so "in" this season. Dare I compare it to Tangerine Tango?  I love the way it makes me look. The color is inviting. I know there are "zillions" of peach blush lovers out there. This one's for you! If you usually wear pink tones, give peach a try for spring and summer. As that menswear advertisement says, "You'll like the way you look."

Does it make my cheekbones look more plump? I don't see it, but perhaps with continued use, I'll have a resculpted face with to-die-for cheekbones. For now, I'm perfectly satisfied with a beautiful blush.

I purchased my BY TERRY Blush Terrybly Ultimate Radiance Blush in Platonic Coral - along with two other shades - at the SPACE.NK boutique within Bloomingdale's at Tysons Corner Center. During Bloomies' beauty event, April 17-29, Best Things in Beauty readers will receive a deluxe Nuxe gift - a mask, toner, and mini body oil - with any purchase over $75 from the Tysons Corner SPACE.NK. They will provide free shipping for your purchases too. The gifts for BTiB readers will be offered in addition to the regular Bloomindale's gifts with purchase during the event. I will tell you all about the event later this week. I'm a bit behind the curve today. For now, keep that special offer in mind if I show you something from SPACE.NK that tempts you.

BY TERRY Blush Terrybly Ultimate Radiance Blush in Erotic Pink

BY TERRY's Blush Terrybly Ultimate Radiance Blush ($75) in Erotic Pink (#2) is a beauty. Everything about the blush is elegant, from the oversized indigo blue carton through the purple satin drawstring pouch to the heavy zamak compact with a cleverly shaped brush to sit inside. Designed to sit in the palm of the hand, like a talisman to magically enhance your charm, the compact feels like something you'll want to use to glamorize your day. It combines gorgeous color with unique technology to prompt your skin to look its best.

Three of the seven pretty shades of Blush Terrybly reached out to grab me at our local SPACE.NK boutique. I'll show you Erotic Pink below, but first a few words about the technology behind the blush.

The pretty rose pink you see in the compact comes to life on the skin, with a pastel, natural color that sings spring. The powder is so nicely textured (no fall out from this one), it resisted my blush brush on first use. I "roughed up" the pretty surface of each compact - just a little - with a sponge-tipped applicator to encourage the compact to give up its treasures.

For my swatch photos, I applied Erotic Pink at the top of my arm with a sponge-tipped applicator at the top and with a dense blush brush below. Both applications were heavy. Sorry about my veins in the top photo. I try to get photos where they aren't so visible, but sometimes the best color renditions come hand-in-hand with my circulatory system. Maybe Erotic Pink excited my bloodstream (could the name be suggestive?).

This color is gorgeous on my skin - a rose pink that glows without shimmer. I love the way it makes me look. Does it make my cheekbones look more plump? I don't see it, but perhaps with continued use, I'll have a resculpted face with to-die-for cheekbones. For now, I'm perfectly satisfied with a beautiful blush.

I purchased my BY TERRY Blush Terrybly Ultimate Radiance Blush in Erotic Pink - along with two other shades - at the SPACE.NK boutique within Bloomingdale's at Tysons Corner Center. I'll show you the other two shades soon.

I've also got some big news for you. BY TERRY Gloss Terrybly Shine Hydra-Lift Lip Lacquer for Spring 2012

Available in five new shades for Spring 2012, BY TERRY Gloss Terrybly Shine ($44, not inexpensive) is an ultra-shiny, lifting-firming, volumizing lip lacquer that will plump up your smile with a long-lasting radiance. An age-defense "Lumilip" technology combines "nutri-regenerating" ceramides, hyaluronic acid (for moisture), and a collagen-stimulating peptide Here's the rundown with more about the technology from BY TERRY.
  • For a “Push-Up Effect,” kiss-me-quick extract (huh?) regenerates, nourishes, hydrates, and creates volume and redefines lip contours. I believe "kiss me quick" is a plant extract that offers wrinkle-blurring prisms of color.
  • For a “Hydra-Lift Effect,” hyaluronic acid microspheres plump, fill the hollows in the lips, and add volume to the lips.
  • For a “Lift-Firming Effect,” ceramides restructure, firm, redensify, and maintain the lips' hydration.
This sounds more like an undergarment than a a lip gloss. Unless you're in the market for a little cleavage enhancement, just ignore this marketing hype. Maybe something was lost in translation. What does all that mean? Who cares? These glosses are gorgeous.

Ultra-fine mother of pearl extracts and covering pigments provide intense, iridescent, long-lasting color. Polymer agents ensure extreme shine and radiant color.

I've been circling Gloss Terrybly Shine at the SPACE.NK boutique at Bloomingdale's at Tysons Corner Center for weeks. I finally jumped off the fence and purchased three. They are listed here as shown, left to right, in the photo above.
  • #1, Diamond Dream, very light pink with tiny spheres of sparkling color
  • #3, Gold Digger, peach with golden spheres that make it lively on my lips
  • #4, Pink Lover, an intense pink that pops with spring's big shade
I snapped a few swatch photos in full sun last weekend. Each of these three lip lacquers has something special to offer.

The color, shine, and dimension of these lip glosses are the draw, no matter what skin-care benefits they may offer. I love the iridescent shades. Each has a beautiful sparkling tone that radiates light. The glosses have a light rose scent. It's a treat on application, and then it leaves quickly and silently, on cat's paws. The texture is good. It's not sticky, but you can "feel the gloss." I like that. It's mirror-free feedback that my gloss is still good to go.

I wish I had been able to get superb photos. No photo is going to portray all of the magnificent qualities of Gloss Terrybly Shine. I want to stand at Bloomingdale's with a signboard, pointing to the easy-to-miss BY TERRY section in our small SPACE.NK outpost, telling passersby, "Don't miss these beauties! Wear one, and you'll have a pretty day!" Can you see that now? Maybe I could make the evening news as wacko of the week.

By Terry is a line with which I haven't spent ample time. Creator Terry de Gunzburg built her line to center on luxury (and the prices reflect that). "Terry spins the richest textures and dynamic colors into wearable makeup laced with anti-aging benefits. Radiant skin is the brand's raison d'être, and a BY TERRY complexion is always dewy and fresh, no matter how tired the skin." The same day I purchased the gorgeous glosses, I bought a primer. I'll let you know what I think after I've worn it for a few days.

You know Gunzburg is the "Mistress of Light Reflection," right? She created YSL's Touche Éclat before she founded her own line. I hope her deal was good. With the number of units sold over the years, she could have retired on that one award-winning product. Light reflection is the quality that differentiates Gloss Terrybly Shine from the rest of the pack. If you have any counter options to visit these glosses, go! Have fun. See if you can purchase just one (my original intention).

If you didn't see my Rose De Rose Liquid Blush feature last fall, you can see it at this link. I wrote then that I feared I would become a BY TERRY addict. There's so much more I want to try. One nice thing about SPACE.NK is the N.dulge (loyalty) program. When you earn 100 points (by spending $100), you get a $5 credit that can be used in store or online. I used my first $5 credit when I bought my new glosses.

You can purchase BY TERRY products from SPACE.NK.apothecary online, at BY TERRY online, or at SPACE.NK counters in the United States. I think it's easier to find in France. in fact, I recently received a few beautiful BY TERRY products from a dear, sweet friend in France. I'll show you soon.

By Terry Rose De Rose Sheer Liquid Blush

Finally, we have a By Terry counter in the DC area! Bloomingdale's at Tysons Corner Center opened a mini SPACE.NK.apothecary area when they unveiled their expanded beauty department not long ago. While I can't seem to find the latest and greatest there, I have been able to purchase a few intriguing things to try.

Rose De Rose ($54) caught my eye the last time I went in. Part skin care, part color liquid blush, Rose De Rose is rich in natural pigments drawn from rose petals to blend easily into the cheeks and facial contours, leaving the skin feeling smooth and looking radiant.

There are three shades, and I had a dilemma. One is rose pink (Fresh Rose, #1); a second is peach (#2); and a third is a mauvy "amber" (Amber Rose, #3). I wanted the Fresh Rose for bright, cheerful days, and I wanted the Amber Rose for several reasons. Applied lightly, it's a very natural blush on my skin. Applied more heavily, it's a bronzer or contouring shade. So, I bought both - my usual solution for indecision.

I like the pump-top containers. They are convenient for dispensing no more product than you need for a full application. I've been pumping the blush into my palm and applying it with a brush.

To take a few swatch photos, I pumped out a "dab" on my arm, and then I pumped out a second dab, blending (spreading) it with my fingers to show you the color. I didn't blend it in as carefully or thoroughly as I would have on my face. I wanted to get enough color to show you the shades in full sun.

I think these two shades are drop-dead gorgeous, and I'm regretting not buying the third. Look at the gleam from these blushes! Now, imagine the color blended properly on your cheeks, and you'll get a visual picture of glorious, natural, luminous color.

I snapped photos at slightly different angles to the sun so that you could see the effects of light on the shades. When blended, both shades impart a sheer, flattering blush color.

Now, I fear, I'm going to become a By Terry addict. I really want the limited-edition Terribly Or Rose, which I didn't see at Bloomingdale's! There's so much more I want to try. One nice thing about SPACE.NK is the N.dulge (loyalty) program. When you earn 100 points (by spending $100), you get a $5 credit that can be used in store or online. How could I let that free $5 go to waste?

You can purchase By Terry products from SPACE.NK.apothecary online, at By Terry online, or at SPACE.NK counters in the United States. I think it's easier to find in France.
