TATCHA Soothing Triple Recovery Cream

I was the lucky recipient of samples of this amazing moisturizer, and now I plan to order it. TATCHA had sent me their Indigo Smoothing Silk Body Butter, and I used up every tiny bit. There was no trace left behind in the travel jar. I loved it - and I suspect, like most, I was surprised that it didn't look blue on my skin.

Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream ($135) is formulated for sensitive skin, which basically  means it will work for everyone. This anti-aging moisturizer is rich in Indigo extract, Colloidal Oatmeal, and Sophora Japonica extract, all of which calm, comfort, and restore the skin's natural resiliency.

To my skin, this cream feels like a rich, ultra-hydrating barrier that helps my skin preserve moisture while it soothes, balancing skin tone for an even look. It is a wonderful cream for use day or night. Even though it's rich, it doesn't interfere with makeup application or wear.

TATCHA's soothing blend of botanicals calms sensitive, easily irritated skin and reverses the signs of premature aging. Formulated with 3% Colloidal Oatmeal (the highest percentage available in a product of this kind on the market), the skin is left comforted, supple, and replenished. It's so good, it was awarded the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance.

My eczema flared after my knee surgery last year (I don't really understand why, but I've heard that certain anesthesias can cause that), and I would love to have had my hands on this cream then. TATCHA says it's ideal for all skin types, especially sensitive skin showing signs of rosacea, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, or allergies - and I believe that. It's also billed as non-comedogenic, which is perfect for anyone with eczema.

I compare this very favorably with a Chantecaille cream I use - one that I love, but it costs $342! Yes, I spend that much because it works. I will happily trade out Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream for $135. They are both 50 ml.

TATCHA Overnight Memory Serum Concentrate

TATCHA shipped this gift to me months ago, and I have used it ever since. As I used the last of Overnight Memory Serum Concentrate ($110), I realized I had never featured it here. I was too busy using it.

All true! The first night I used this concentrated serum - more like a gel than a cream or liquid - I found it to be like jelly as I used its gold scoop to remove it from the pot. If you stick your finger in the pot, the serum concentrate doesn't want to adhere to it properly, and you either draw too much or too little out of the container. The only acceptable substitute for the scoop is a plastic scoop that you can purchase by the dozen in beauty supply stores. TATCHA's scoop is genius, and the little knot that holds it to the top of the jar (to keep it from being misplaced) in invaluable.

I use Overnight Memory Serum Concentrate almost every night after cleansing. It absorbs very quickly and leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated. The miracle happens overnight, when the product goes to work. I awaken to skin that appears hydrated, plumped, and lineless. What more could we want? I call it my miracle serum. TATCHA Deep Hydration Firming Eye Serum

About a month ago, TATCHA sent me their new Deep Hydration Firming Eye Serum ($95). I test most skin-care products for at least a month, so I am finally ready to tell you about this wonderful eye serum.

I'll start with TATCHA's own informative description. This weightless serum of Okinawa red algae, honeysuckle leaf, and caffeine offers instantly visible firming, reduced puffiness, and plumping hydration to diminish fine lines.

A cooling ceramic applicator, which you can see in TATCHA's photo immediately above, and fine dust of 23-karat gold brighten and diminish shadows under the eyes without adding shimmer. This serum was developed for all skin types. It's non-comedogenic, non-irritating, and non-sensitizing. It was tested by dermatologists and ophthalmologists before introduction.

We had a conversation about puffiness last weekend. If your puffiness is due to the shifting of fat under the skin (especially under the eyes), as so many experience with age - or as an unfortunate result of genetics, no eye serum or cream will fix it. Cosmetics cannot melt fat (yet).

However, many of us retain fluid, and that fluid leads to puffiness. This serum, with its caffeine, can act as a diuretic and reduce or eliminate fluid-filled puffiness. Just don't apply the serum too close to your lash line. The caffeine in this serum will draw that fluid out of your skin, and the manual lymphatic massage will help with the natural lymph drainage.

I have a bit of crepiness in the inside corner of my eye over the crease - another effect of aging. It annoys me beyond reason, and I'm thrilled that this serum is firming that area to correct it. That's one reason I recommend a good massage over the eyes. It has reinforced for me my "test for 30 days" routine. I saw an immediate difference, but I can also see a more permanent difference after a month's use.

TATCHA A Plum Blossom 23-Karat Gold Illuminated Lipstick - Revisited

My beautiful, limited-edition A Plum Blossom 23-Karat Gold Illuminated Lipstick ($55), a gift from TATCHA, finally arrived. Perhaps FedEx took it to Alaska on its way. It certainly looked like Alaska here on Monday. Anyone could have been confused.

I already had a high level of anticipation from TATCHA's publicity, Eileen's photos here in Best Things in Beauty, and The Beauty Look Book's gorgeous photos, but nothing could have prepared me for its arrival and the sensory treat of opening the gift-wrapped box to find the presentation I had received. TATCHA has such class!

Look at the box photos above. I'm already picturing the beautiful box on my bureau, holding my earrings. Inside, it's just as pretty. Unwrapping this lipstick was a total delight for my senses. Removing the magnetic top from the tube was as elegant as it gets in lipstick land, and then gazing at the chiseled lipstick bullet was an extra-added benefit. Imagine me hyperventilating, and you have a good image of what it was like here a bit earlier.

I had a small window of full sunshine immediately after it arrived, so I hopped right outside to take a few photos. Like Eileen, I made one pass on my arm with the lipstick. I could have layered it to achieve a richer color, but I chose the one I saw on my arm with one pass. It's gorgeous. It has color and shine. What you can't see here is how hydrating it feels on my lips.

By now, you should know that lipsticks look lighter on my pale arm than they do on my lips, which carry their own color. The best approximation I can normally give you is a finger pad, where I always test lipsticks in stores. The pad of your finger is darker than your wrist, so it's a good place to test lipstick shades.

Unfortunately, today it was cold outside, stripping my fingers of the color I see on them right now, as I write - even making them puffy. That's why I photographed two finger pads to show you how little color they carried today. Still, A Plum Blossom was shining with the energy of the sun and an unparalleled radiance.

I would describe A Plum Blosson much the way Eileen did. It's a mauve-tinged pink, semi-sheer, and glowing. My lips bring out the mauve in the shade, and the light dances on A Plum Blossom, giving it as many facets as a rare cut gem. TATCHA says it was inspired by the iconic pink Japanese Plum Blossom peeking through a snowy Kyoto morning wrapped in golden light. Its texture? Plum fruit and silk extracts richly hydrate lips for for a creamy, lustrous finish to flatter any complexion, day or night.

Now for the bad news. It's sold out at TATCHA's Web site. I hope they order more. I knew it would sell quickly. Half of their stock sold the first day it was offered. The good news is that you can pre-order it at Barneys New York for delivery in March, only a few weeks away. That's currently your best bet for purchasing this exquisite lipstick.

Of course, it's available on eBay. One just sold there for $45.99. Some greedy individuals bought it for resale and raised the price to a usurious level ($99.99, for example). I mention eBay just in case you passed it on my first mention, but are now painfully regretting your decision and want it right now. Ordinarily, I do not promote eBay as a source for new beauty products.

I love TATCHA's A Plum Blossom 23-Karat Gold Illuminated Lipstick. I'm going to go do a happy dance.

TATCHA A Plum Blossom Lipstick Photos from Eileen

I know that many of you have been waiting to see swatch photos of TATCHA's new A Plum Blossom limited-edition lipstick. TATCHA published photos on Facebook, and if you haven't seen them, you should go look. The company told us that half have already sold out.

Eileen volunteered to help out here so that you could see her tube and swatch. Since I wouldn't be able to take photos in the snow, even if the one TATCHA graciously sent me arrives today, it's Eileen to the rescue.

She sent me two swatch photos, and I selected the one I know to be most true. It was taken in sunshine. Eileen said she made one pass with the tube onto her arm. Isn't the color gorgeous?

She sent some notes with her photos. She said, "This beautiful shade has a micro-fine gold shimmer that is stunning and makes the lips look lustrous. Everything I said about Kyoto Red is true for this one except for the finish. Whereas Kyoto Red was an opaque soft matte, A Plum Blossom is semi-sheer and glows without looking slick or sparkly. I wish I could capture the effect of seeing the lipstick as the light plays over it. From one angle it looks satin, but as I move my arm, it comes alive with a luminous glow.

She also described the difference between her swatch and the photos on Facebook. "There are a couple of pictures of Sunrise: A Plum Blossom on TATCHA's Facebook page - a day look and an evening look. The evening look that Makeup Artist Matthew VanLeeuwan created is deceptively cool because he used a dark mauve lip liner called Mauvelle by Lancôme. A Plum Blossom, isn't really that cool when worn on its own or when worn with a warmer pink or rose lip liner. Bottom line: This lustrous plum rose will look either cool or warm depending on how you wear it and what other lip liners you use with it. It's a bit of a chameleon."

According to TATCHA, they sold over half their stock the first day it was available on their site. That's impressive, given that the only picture of it was TATCHA's promo picture of the tube and bullet. From Eileen: "I have the feeling this is going to be another huge success for TATCHA, much like Kyoto Red." I totally agree with her.

On a recent day, when I was felling particularly blah, I received a gift of the Gold Collection from TATAHA. Everything about the gift was luxurious - the purple and gold embellished gift box to the purple tissue paper and gold cord. Opening it was a pleasure. I felt good even before I gave the Gold Camellia Nourishing Lip Balm ($36) its first whiff.

The balm is packaged in a beautiful box with a pull-out drawer that holds a beautiful jar, accented by the TATCHA logo, a purple rum, and a see-through window at the top. Behind the window the balm is adorned with gold leaf. It's gorgeous. I've never seen a more beautiful lip balm presentation.

There is a little story inside the box, "A Rediscovery." I won't spoil it be quoting it. You will enjoy its contribution to the experience of unwrapping your beautiful TATCHA treasure.

It took me only a nanosecond to try it. I lightly ran my finger over the balm (and gold leaf) and spread the treatment onto my lips. This natural treatment melted onto my lips instantly, infusing them with the treasured emollients of squalane; Japanese camellia oil, which has been long regarded for its antioxidant properties that protect the skin; licorice, which brightens; and rice oil to moisturize deeply. Also in the formula are macademia nut oil and TATCHA's HADASEI-3 Complex. It has a natural, very mild, and pleasant fragrance that all but disappears on application.

All TATCHA skin care is formulated without mineral oil, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, parabens, PEGs, PPGs, DEA, TEA, urea, or phthalates. TATCHA succeeds at providing the best ingredients for your skin and your health.

To use the balm, scoop a tiny bit of balm and just a touch of the gold leaf, then spread or dab evenly on your lips. The first time I used mine, I took too much gold, but it was certainly a treat. My lips were instantly hydrated and gleamed with the trace of gold, which magically melted and fused with the balm.

In the days I've had TATCHA's Gold Camellia Nourishing Lip Balm, I've saved it for nights, trying to make it last forever, I guess. When I apply it at bedtime, my lips feel indulged. It has almost unheard-of lasting power. When I awaken at 3:00 or 3:30 - a nightly occurrence - I can still feel it on my lips! For a balm that feels lightweight, that is remarkable. When I finally drag myself out of bed (5:30 lately), I still have moist lips. TATCHA Ageless Enriching Renewal Cream and Ageless Revitalizing Eye Cream

TATCHA has joined my collection of elite skin care. It makes me feel - and look - so good, I am thrilled to have had the company's help in discovering the secrets of the geishas - known for their baby-smooth skin (referred to as "mochi hada").

My latest adventures have been with the Ageless Enriching Renewal Cream ($185) and the Ageless Revitalizing Eye Cream ($135). I have been testing both products for over a month.

Ageless Enriching Renewal Cream is an intensive cream with serious anti-aging properties. Even the name delighted me when it was delivered to my house. "Ageless" and "enriching" are words that convey to me a cream that I need. I don't want to appear to be aging, and I know my skin needs help - particularly at this time of year when it is at its driest.

The skin is beautified by increased nourishment and purification, resulting in a reduction of age spots, renewed appearance, and radiant glow. The effective formula harnesses proven ingredients that work in harmony to promote microcirculation, preventing and reversing the signs of premature aging.

Microcirculation helps to carry vital nutrients and oxygen to the skin cells, replenishing and nourishing the skin, while also carrying away waste from the cells. The result is a radiant and healthy glow and a guard against signs of premature aging, including loss of elasticity, age spots, and dryness.

Some of the active botanical ingredients of Ageless Enriching Renewal Cream are peony (Paoneia Albiflora Root Extract), sanshishi (Gardenia Jasminoides Fruit Extract),  and yomogi (Artemisia Princeps Leaf Extract). How could these wonderful plants not help my skin? I'm also very impressed by what's not in this cream: mineral oil, synthetic colors, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, parabens, PEGs, PPGs, urea, DEA, TEA, or phthalates. Halleluha!

Ageless Enriching Renewal Cream comes with a pretty gold spoon tied to the top of the jar with a purple ribbon. The presentation is gorgeous. TATCHA says to use it by scooping out a pearl-sized amount of cream with the gold spoon and massaging it gently into the face, neck, and decolletage in upward strokes day and night. I have to admit I always have clean hands when I use it, so I skip the spoon. I also skipped the upward strokes direction. I prefer to use circular motions on my face and neck. I can't explain why, but I'm gentle and it's faster. Bad patient!

When I first started using this cream, I used too much. I saw a tiny amount of white residue on my face after the cream dried, and I wiped it off. That was my signal that more is not better. Because the cream isn't at all heavy, I assumed a little more would be good for my parched skin. Bad assumption! Once I started using the cream properly, with a dose closer to what TATCHA recommends, I never saw the residue again. Duh - I'm supposed to be the beauty maven.

My skin has never looked better. The proof is in a test I did very recently with a new cream that is supposed to transform your skin's texture. It didn't. The rep's reaction? Wow, you must really have good skin! Thank you, TATCHA and Mom.

Ageless Revitalizing Eye Cream doesn't have the little spoon, and I had wished it did. Voila! I took the little spoon from the face cream [insert little smiley face].

This intensive eye cream - suitable for all skin types - promises deep anti-aging properties. Revitalizing Eye Cream nourishes and purifies the skin around the eyes, resulting in a decreased appearance of puffiness, dark circles, and eye spots. I love it! I don't have dark circles. I do have one sun spot between my left eye and hairline. I have spoken with my dermatologist about it, asking for a prescription cream to lighten it. He says it's deep and no cream is going to remove it. [I won't bother you with the options now.] Indeed, Revitalizing Eye Cream didn't change it. However, it did brighten the area around my eyes, and it absolutely did reduce puffiness - particularly after I slept on my head (I can get myself into some weird positions while I sleep).

The ingredients are the same as the face cream, but the eye cream has a proprietary HADASEI-3 Bioactive Complex that has to be magical. Just as the face cream includes none of the "bad guys," the eye cream is also free of them.

Both the Ageless Enriching Renewal Cream and the Ageless Revitalizing Eye Cream are perfect for day and night. They absorb quickly and do not interfere with makeup. In fact, they smoothe the way for makeup, making me look fresh and rested and allowing my foundation and eye makeup to glide on.

That' why both of these wonderful skin-care products have earned their way into my elite corner. The containers are large, so they will both last me for several more months. Then, I must replenish them.

TATCHA Luminous Dewy Skin Mist ($48) was made for me. You won't convince me otherwise. TATCHA had my clone in their labs as they envisioned and created this revolutionary skin mist. She was a woman with dry, possibly aging, skin. Until TATCHA contacted me and sent me a few product samples, I had no knowledge of the company. They launched over two years ago with their signature beauty blotting papers, which were originally created and used by gold craftsmen, and they recently announced the availability of a full skin-care line.

TATCHA has received great coverage recently by respected media, including Vogue (US, Brazil, Great Britian, and Australia), Marie Claire, Allure, and the Today Show, but remain largely, I believe, an undiscovered gem. Maybe we can change that!

What did I get to try? Let's start with TATCHA Radiant Deep Brightening Serum ($150). This serum is the ultimate luxury serum. Considered a brightening serum (huge in Asia, becoming more and more popular in the United States), Deep Brightening Serum is composed with time-tested Asian botanicals and TATCHA's proprietary HADASEI-3 Bioactive Complex for radiant looking skin. The serum hydrates my skin nicely, while adding a brightened, even-toned appearance. It is very lightweight in feel, so a little goes a long way on application. While I was using it over a period of about four weeks, I often had to remind myself to top it with TATCHA's moisturizer. It made my skin feel nice and moist, with absolutely no residue or stickiness that some serums leave behind. I had a deluxe sample of TATCHA Supple Moisture Rick Silk Cream ($150), and I nearly cried when I swept the last cream out of the jar after three weeks.  This weightless-feeling gel-cream of liquid silk, squalane, royal jelly, and HADASEI-3 Bioactive Complex is absolutely perfect for summer. It leaves my skin beautifully moisturized with no feel of a heavy cream (heavy moisturizers are a staple in my routine). It's perfect under makeup. It's formulated with natural ingredients. Even better, it has no mineral oil, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, parabens, PEGs, PPGs, urea, DEA, TEA, or phthalates. They weren't in the skin-care secrets of the geishas, and you won't find them in TATCHA. Again, just click on the link above to see the ingredients. I plan to order this moisturizer. If I can have only one of the products - given the obscene amount of money I've spent on makeup and perfume this month - it's this one. I haven't had the opportunity to try it in the harshest winter months, but I'll bet I like it then just as much.

I'll pause and remind you that my skin ranges from dry to very dry and is sensitive. In my opinion, these products from TATCHA will perform equally well on all skin types, mainly because they are so lightweight on the skin, even though they are packed with good stuff for your skin.

The third product I tested was TATCHA Polished Rice Enzyme Powder ($65). The exfoliating grains come in three variations: Gentle, Classic, and Deep. Even though my instincts told me to start with Gentle, I started with Classic. Why was I hesitant? Physical exfoliators and I have a rocky relationship. My skin is very thin and tears (micro-tears leave red, raw-feeling skin) at the slightest provocation. Not with these!

The water-activated enzyme powder of rice bran, papaya, and TATCHA's HADASEI-3 Bioactive Complex will reveal your skin's natural gleam, exfoliating without harsh abrasives for effortless baby-soft skin. These rice enzyme powders function as a 2-in-1 cleanser for those who aren't wearing makeup and would like a nice deep clean. I was impressed. I mix the powder with water, and a paste forms. The paste thoroughly cleanses my skin, leaving it soft and clear.

My overall verdict is that TATCHA is a keeper. I love the products I tried, and I'm looking forward to a long-term relationship. I'm already coveting the Luminous Dewy Skin Mist, which I discovered online.
