Crazy 68 Météorites Illuminating Compact from the Guerlain Holiday 2013 Crazy Paris Collection

Guerlain has created another Météorites product to light up the holiday season: the Météorites Crazy 68 Illuminating Compact ($69). Like its Pearl counterpart, the new, limited-edition holiday Météorites Compact reveals energetic hues of pink that light up the face with a delicate satiny halo. The pressed powder is discreetly perfumed with an inimitable powdery violet - a Guerlain signature. There is a third Météorites product I did not purchase: Crazy 68 Terracotta Bronzer, the first-ever Holiday Terracotta. I think my bronzer count has exceeded all bounds of reason. The bronzer does look very nice, though.

I usually resist the pressed powder Météorites entirely, opting instead for the Météorites Pearls. However, this time the colors were so pretty, I succumbed to the I-wants. I'm glad I did. I can carry this compact along with me, and who doesn't want to glow toward the end of the day?

I took swatch photos in full sun, swatching at the top of my arm with a sponge-tipped applicator that had been "run" across all the shades in the compact. I really laid on the product, although you'll never know it from my photos. This powder proves I'm a crazy blogger for attempting to show you this light pink powder. For the larger swatch below, I used a brush, but it doesn't look any different - probably because I had to apply it heavily to see it distinctly on my arm. Such is the nature of finishing powders.

I hope you can see that the color is light, cool pink with a slight glow. It is entirely different from the color of the Crazy Champs Élysées Météorites Pearls, which are a warm pink and provide more color than this pressed powder does. It was hard getting good swatch photos, so these will have to do.

This is a very nice illuminating powder, however, if I had to choose between the two holiday Météorites, I'd go with the Pearls - all other things being equal. Of course, they aren't equal. This one is portable; the Pearls aren't conveniently portable.

What do you think?  Which one would you choose? I'll be interested in your selections.

I purchased my Crazy 68 Météorites Illuminating Compact from Sephora, where it was available for a day or two before my favorite Guerlain Boutique had received the collection.

Have you used the Meteorites Voyage pressed finishing powder? How does this one compare to it?

Is this compact refillable? If so, is this exact powder sold as a refill? I bought Wulong last year and I love it. Too bad there isn't a Wulong refill.

This year's compact is so much more reasonably priced than last year's. It makes getting both much more reasonable. It's very pretty but I think I will stick with the pearls. They're available on Sephora now too.

As an aside CG I was wondering if you are going to be reviewing the new Cle de Peau cream blush and eye and lip pencils (Neiman's online and Nordstrom online has them). I'm really curious about what you think of them. They look gorgeous.

So lovely! I thought I might try these rather than the regular pearls but I can definitely see that these are too cool for my skin. Glad the regular Meteorites will work! lol

The pressed version wins over the pearls for me as they are gluten free. Thank you CG for the lovely swatches!!

Oh wow, this looks completely different than the photo on the Sephora site (which is much more bronze -- and not in stock apparently?). Although, the one on Sephora.com is called Crazy Terracotta Healthy Glow Powder. Maybe it's a different brozing powder?

I picked up the pearls already and they're fantastic! I think I mostly just got suckered in by the fun black packaging, however. ;)

Hi there, Stephanie, that's the bronzer one. This one is there too.

Hi CG, between the compact and the pearls, which one would you say has less shimmer/illuminating effect?
Hope you're having a great week!

Hi, I am so looking forward to the pearls as a first time purchase. I looked on Sephora and it doesn't seem to be available on the Canadian site but I have sourced one from a store 2 hours away and will be picking up next week as \I have an appt there. I am really excited!!! I would be interested in how you find the pressed powder as opposed to the pearls after a while. Is it really better noticeably to get the pearls over the compact? Thanks

I did find the pearls on Sephora now but not this particular pressed powder. They are offering a set with smaller sizes of the radiant pen, primer and pearls for $58. Do people have any opinion as to whether this would be good as a trial or if I would be better off just getting the pearls, wish I could see them. Anyway any Feedback appreciated

Woah, I had no idea what to expect with such vivid looking colors (usually they seem a bit more muted to my eye), but they really do work together and I love the effect it produced on your skin. :-) Thanks for sharing this with us!

PS - you are most definitely NOT crazy! You are one of the smartest, and most savvy beauty bloggers out there! Keep up the great work! :-)

Thanks, Bonnie. I always feel a bit looney when I take photos of barely perceptible colors. :)

Thanks for you swatch CG! I think I'll prefer the balls over the pressed version :)

Hi Angusmum,

The set contains some nice products but its value to you will be determined on whether or not they are the types of products you use. The items are geared towards a light to medium complexion. The Precious Light is an illuminator and can also be used as an eyelid base. It has a heavier texture than Touche Éclat and gives some coverage. The Météorites primer is an excellent primer for women with normal to dry skin. I love it and was particularly wowed by the LE summer version, Les Ors. The Météorites pearls in the set are ideal for light to medium skintones. They give a nice satin-matte finish.

Here's what I'd do. I'd go to a Guerlain counter and test the products first. Otherwise, it is a lot of money to spend on products you might not use. Oh, and I'd definitely pick up the Camps Élysées pearls. They're just too pretty to pass up :-)
