Crazy 68 Rouge G de Guerlain in Provocative from the Guerlain Holiday 2013 Crazy Paris Collection

The always elegant Rouge G ($49.50) has been reinvented for the holiday season. The sophisticated limited-edition black lacquered case opens to reveal a deep luxurious "pink" called Provocative (#863). As with the classic Rouge G, the holiday edition contains a discreet built-in compact mirror, allowing for easy and precise application. Forget for a moment that it's heavy. It's not pink either.

You know this isn't my favorite Guerlain lipstick because of its weight. I toyed with whether to order it - sight unseen. The photos I had seen threw it in my cart (so to speak). Given that this lipstick is red, it's not a good color for me - too dark. Anyone who loves red lipstick should find it marvelous.

Do you see any similarity between my photo and the press photo at the top of this feature? My photo was taken in full, lunchtime sunshine, and the color in the photo looks exactly like what you see in my photo directly above. I took my swatch photos at the same time in full sun.

Sorry about the Band-Aid scum on my arm. I tried to get it off, but it wants to wear off. Charlie speared me this morning when we were playing. There is a very nasty wound on the other side of my arm. Anyhow, what color would you call this?

It's provocative, but it's not "deep, vibrant pink" (as Guerlain described it) to my eyes. Fortunately, one of my very best friends loves red lipstick. She's a fair blonde too, but she (the former actress) can pull it off.

I purchased mine from the Guerlain Boutique in Las Vegas. If you would like to order now, call Jonathan at (702) 732-7008. You will love him. Otherwise, look for it soon at your favorite Guerlain counter.

What a gorgeous red! From your photo it appears not too blue/pink and not too orange. If it weren't for the price, I'd have to have it. I buy way too many lipsticks and very rarely am satisfied with the color. Is it just me, or does anyone else out there have difficulty finding the perfect lipstick color? We all know what store lighting does to a look, and gosh I've never thought of asking for a sample of a lipstick color...would I get one if I did??! I find myself buying drugstore lipsticks because they are less expensive, but in the end I probably spend even more on those because you can't test in store so 2 or 3 usually end up in my shopping bag with mostly disappointing results...AND they can still be pricey for what they are.

This summer I made a major change to my hair color. For years I had a dark base color with deep purple highlights and periodically would alternate the highlighted color to saphire blue (long before Katie Perry wore blue!). I know it sounds drastic for a woman in her 50's, but I have an excellent colorist who does it right, and wearable! For quite a long time now I've wanted to try one of those beautiful grays with a hint of lavender. An added benefit I now realize, is that my gray-ish/white-ish hair is truly neutral and I seem to have many more color options with both wardrobe and cosmetics. I'm thinking I could happily wear that shade of red. Hmmmm, maybe I'll forgo a handful of drugstore failures and check out that Rouge G de Guerlain #863!

Thanks for the swatch CG, and thanks for being here. Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

hi lovely charleston girl!! it is red!! wow!! my local counter has all the pieces of this collection but, no testers!! go and figure?! the counter manager showed me a paper that tells "exactly" what natalia is wearing. maybe she's wearing that particular shade of rouge g but, they are adding something else or it's the magic of photography?! i so wish they wouldn't do that (although i know lippies look different on people based on pigmentation levels). but, you have to admit, that color is way off. going back to the eye pallette....i went to a "trunk showing" of a favorite local makeup artist that i've known since my early teens (a long tome ago)! although it wasn't guerlain, i was surprised to see similar colors for an eye look. this is what she did...gray on the lid, the metallic (like the copper) over it, the pink in the crease, with the lid colors slightly blended a little bit above the crease. all lighter "highlighting" shades where you'd normally put them..browbone, inner corner, as a base. this was best suggested for those with deep set eyes and find they don't seem to have alotof "room" for more color or, that it seems it could make eyes smaller, closing up the eye. i just thought this was interesting. this artist is a bit conservative. when i looked at the colors, i thought to myself..guerlain!! anyway, it was pretty, very soft, light, and airy. it also seemed to be very neutral! the lip choices she presented ranged from deep reds to nudes but added a bit of shimmery gloss. i think i really like guerlain's look but, with some tweaking. p.s. burberry fall is on burberrybeauty.com ( i hope that's ok to post). p.s.s. i heard armani holiday will be featuring " crazy" non-traditional colors too? xxxoooo to you!!

I think this color looks gorgeous! I think I need to go see it in person as perhaps it is a bit of a chameleon?

I am so excited to go play with the holiday collections!

Oh my, this is a lipstick I must purchase. As a lipstick lover I have far too many but I can wear red (my signature colour) and this is divine. Thank you for the fabulous swatch as the press photograph is a far cry from the actual colour.

Oh my- too bright, too intense for me! Are they using it as a lipstain, then applying one of their glossies over it?
I'd try it that way- but I am going to pass on it. Your swatches saved me again!
I'm with Wendy on the Burberry makeup line. I simply adore 99.9% of what I purchase from them. Beautiful quality and gotta love the packaging. Wish my TF She Wolf would have come in a better compact- it's creaky and cheap! Enjoy your new week ahead ladies!

Hi Wendy,

Yes, Armani's holiday collection also features bright colors--orange and pink. The collection is called Eccentrico. So, with Guerlain we've got French craziness and with Armani we've got Italian eccentricity :-). Dior also has a colorful collection featuring bold pinks and gold. If you're in the mood for a bright and cheerful holiday look, there's much to love in many of the collections coming out.

I can't wear red either, but your friend will be happy! This is an amazing lipstick, the kind that makes me wish I was a little bolder.

What a huge difference in their picture and your picture! I like your swatch and would wear it. I'm only a BI at Sephora so no discount for me. I spend most of my beauty dollars elsewhere anyway.
