KORRES has introduced Magic Light Contouring Trios ($28) in two gorgeous color tones, and they are definitely magical - from the beautiful compacts to the lovely stamped design in the powders. Each of the three complexion-enhancing powders in a compact combine to amplify the skin’s natural beauty and enhance our facial architectures.
Mykonos is shown at the top of this feature, and Santorini is shown directly above. Both are named after Greek islands. My photos taken at home are shown below. I love patterns in compacts. These combine two elements, the stripes of color that are so popular along with postmarks, postcards from faraway lands.
Each picturesque contouring trio includes a weightless, light-diffusing powder, a sculpting powder, and brightening cheek glow to add shape, dimension, and soft focus to your skin. The result is an interplay between shadow and illumination that mimics the “magic light” of Greece, bathing the skin in a natural, flattering glow.
These Magic Light Contouring Trios are not exactly blushes. They are too light when blended, although there is a subtle blush shade. They aren't exactly highlighters either. They are a novel product, a hybrid between a finishing powder, blush, very light bronzer, finishing powder, and illuminator when blended.
KORRES recommends that you use the three shades separately. Use an angled blush brush to sweep the sculpting powder (the deepest shade) around the outside edge of face and in hollows of cheeks. Then, using the same brush, apply the brightening cheek glow (the medium shade) to the apples of your cheeks and dust it lightly on your chin, tip of your nose, and forehead. Finally, apply the light diffusing powder (the lightest shade) all over your face, blending out any harsh edges and concentrating light at the cheekbones and brow bones. Alternatively, use a large, fluffy brush to blend all three shades and dust the blended shade over your entire complexion as a luminous finishing powder. Two ways to play - two ways to wear. I love multi-use products!
I've had so much fun playing with these powders. I bought them both. My preference for wear? I like to use them as finishing powders - probably because that's fast and easy. They add a very subtle glow - not a shine - that looks good on every part of my face. I have followed the KORRES directions, and I'm happy with the three uses they suggest. If I had to make a Solomon's choice to own only one shade, I think I'd have to select Mykonos. The pink tones are right up my alley. Oh, but Santorini - such a perfect nude/brown for a fair-skinned gal!
I did blended swatches for you, combing all three shades with a sponge-tipped applicator and applying them heavily on my arm. Mykonos is shown at the top of my arm, with Santorini below. I lope it's clear from the swatches that Mykonos adds a warm flush to the face, while Santorini adds a very light bronze one when all three shades are blended.
Does it get prettier? Both of these shades are very sheer - basically mistake-proof. Have you ever worried about trying to contour, but ending up with a striped face? That won't happen with a Magic Light Contouring Trio. Use the contouring shade and blend out the edges, if you can see them, with the lightest shade. Voila! You will look like yourself, only better. The finely milled powders do their work on the face without looking at all obvious. That's the magic.
The compacts are clear plastic, but very classy. They carry the postcard theme on the lid. Inside, there is a large mirror. As you might expect, the postcard theme, repeated on the surface of the powder, will be gone with a few uses. That's OK. The powders are noteworthy nonetheless. I think of it as a postcard sent back to KORRES to tell them how much I love my Magic Light Contouring Trios.
Really fair? So am I! I suppose Santorini is the best shade for me, but I adore Mykonos. That's why I had to have them both. I couldn't figure it out online at Sephora, and I'm so pleased to have both shades. This was a case of indecision that payed off big time.
I purchased my KORRES Magic Light Trios at Sephora, the exclusive beauty retailer for these beauties. I'll be using these year round. KORRES has outdone itself.

KORRES Naked Love Your Lips Giveaway Contest

Let Korres show you the perfect way to achieve luscious lips with a hint of color. Prepare your lips with the Lip Scrub and play your way to a gorgeous, naked pout with the Cherry Lip Glosses in univerally flattering shades. Put the finishing touches on your lovely lips with the Jasmine Lip Butter (one of my favorites) that melts onto the lips, leaving a shiny, tinted finish.
Here's what you get in the set.
- .20-oz Cherry Lip Gloss in Rose
- .20-oz Cheery Lip Goss in Beige
- .21-oz Lip Butter in Jasmine (light pink, buttery lip balm)
- .12-oz Lemon Lip Scrub
- Help soften and hydrate the lips without stickiness;
- Help provide antioxidant protection against free radical;
- Help smooth the appearance of dry lips and lip lines; and
- Gently exfoliate the lips with rice powder granules.
I originally bought two Naked Love Your Lips, so it turns out one was for me and one for one of you. How can you enter to win this contest (technically a sweepstakes)? Just leave a comment on this feature (not in another BTiB post). After you comment here, feel free to send me an e-mail at bestthingsinbeautycontests@gmail.com (the contest address, not my "personal" e-mail) and identify your comment. You can never be too careful about sharing an e-mail address you care about on a blog, so feel free to follow this step (an alternative is to code your e-mail, e.g., myname at gmail dot com, in your comment). Please make sure I have your e-mail. If I can't notify you, you can't win - even if your number is drawn.
You can earn extra entries. Follow this blog (through an e-mail subscription, GFC, or though one of the many Google readers - see sidebar at right) to earn a second entry. If you are a follower, it would help me tally entries if you tell me in your comment how you follow. You don't have to follow to enter. I want everyone to have a chance, but I also want to reward my followers. I must be able to track this entry.
You can earn a third entry by tweeting this contest. You must include "@BTiBeauty" (without the quotes) and the contest title in your tweet. Remember, tweet the contest title - if you don't, that entry won't count. I will tweet the contest this evening, and you can simply retweet it to earn that second entry - if that's easier.
The deadline for entries will be Saturday, February 18, at midnight. The next morning, I will use a random number generator (random.org) to select the winner. I will e-mail the winner on Sunday morning. The winner will have 48 hours to reply to my message and provide a shipping address. After 48 hours, the prize will be forfeited, and another winner will be selected. Make sure to check your e-mail - and look in your spam folder - when the contest ends.
This contest is open to anyone anywhere. Here are the terms. I will carefully pack and ship the prize (as I always do). I cannot insure the prize for overseas shipment - it's amazingly expensive to do so because of the way I have to send insured mail. If it's lost or stolen in transit, I may not be able to replace it with another prize just like it. I'll do my best on this end; let's see if your mail service does right by you on the other end if we have an overseas winner.
For all the legalese related to this contest, please see the Contests/Sweepstakes page at the top of the blog. Good luck!

KORRES Spring Lip Collection Giveaway Contest
This tempting Spring Lip Collection, a $46 value, includes three full-size lip products in best-selling shades that will add a pop of color to your lips while providing antioxidant benefits. Raspberry Liquid Lipstick in Berry is a cooling, water-based liquid lipstick that's rich in line-smoothing, antioxidant raspberry, and pomegranate extracts. It goes on with the creamy texture of a lip gloss and has the vibrant, long-wearing finish of a lipstick. Jasmine Lip Butter Glaze features conditioning sugar cane and has a line-smoothing buttery texture that melts onto the lips, leaving vibrant and shiny color. Jasmine Lip Butter, one of my favorites, treats lips to the ultimate creamy pop of color. It contains moisturizing shea butter and rice wax to seal in hydration. My friend Lexi always had one on her desk at work - before she left to go to graduate school in Colorado.
Formulated without parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, petrochemicals, phthalates, and other ingredients we should all try to avoid, these KORRES lovelies are perfect for your lips. We do ingest our lip products!
The fab set contains:
- 0.20 oz Raspberry Liquid Lipstick in Berry 28 (muted raspberry),
- 0.34 oz Lip Butter Glaze in Jasmine (sheer neutral pink),
- 0.21 oz Lip Butter in Jasmine (sheer neutral pink).
You can "earn" a second entry by tweeting this contest. Just make sure to include "@BTiBeauty" (without the quotes) in your tweet. I will tweet the contest later today, and you can simply retweet it to earn that second entry. You can earn a third entry by following the blog - either here or on Twitter (any entrant who is already a follower will automatically earn the follower point, but you can save me time by telling me you're a follower in your comment). I can't track followers through a third-party service, so you need to be on Google's list for me to verify the entry.
The deadline for entries will be Saturday, May 21, at midnight. The next morning, I will use a random number generator (random.org) to select the winner. I will e-mail the winner at that time. The winner will have 48 hours to reply to my message and provide a shipping address. After 48 hours, the prize will be forfeited, and another winner will be selected. Make sure to check your e-mail - and look in your spam folder - when the contest ends.
This contest will be open to anyone anywhere in the world. I will ship the prize uninsured (the insurance costs way too much). I will also provide proof of shipping, if necessary. I will to take a chance that both mail systems - the winner's and mine - will deliver the box without loss, theft, or destruction!
My contests are a way to give back to you for all the friendship you bring me. Thank you, and good luck!

KORRES Line-Smoothing Lip Butter Glaze Trio
KORRES has introduced a Line-Smoothing Lip Butter Glaze Trio ($24) in tubes! New and exclusive to Sephora, this limited-edition trio of multi-functional lip glazes is said to smooth fine lines, improve lip texture, and condition the skin, while also depositing vibrant and shiny color onto the lips. Coming from KORRES, I believe it.
The formula's lightweight, 89% natural emollient oils soften and moisturize; certified organic sugar cane conditions lips and improves lip texture; and pomegranate fruit sterols hydrate and provide antioxidant protection and line-smoothing benefits. A delightful blend of certified organic bee waxes and sunflower seed waxes create a soft and creamy texture that will make you want to apply these glazes again and again.
The colors look lovely in Jasmine (sheer neutral pink), Pomegranate (sheer coral), and Raspberry (sheer berry). Since I love the "traditional" KORRES Lip Butters, I suspect I'm going to flip over these. I'm partial to tubes rather than pots.
In the United States? You have time to save 20% too! Just head over to Sephora.com and use code FF2010 at checkout. Hurry to buy your favorites before Friends & Family ends!
Signed, your personal shopper. :)

KORRES New Shea Butter Lip Balm

What does it contain? Castor seed oil, soybean oil, linseed oil, carnauba wax, candelilla wax, shea butter extract, beeswax, sunflower seed oil, and rosemary leaf extract.
It's ideal for dry lips and "winter lips." This buttery lip balm melts on the lips and offers heavy-duty hydration. Shea Butter softens, conditions, and moisturizes, as do the other oils that make up the ingredients.
The Shea Butter Hydrating Lip Balm is available exclusively at the KORRES Web site and onboard Delta Airlines. In fact, the balm says it's made exclusively for Delta Airlines. Smart buyers!

Korres Materia Herba Toning Cleansing Foam

I read at Beautorium that Materia Herba features highly effective, natural active ingredients formulated in collaboration with an advanced Swiss skin care lab. Ninety-five to 100% natural and organic, certified by Ecocert, Materia Herba products are clinically proven to boost the skin’s hydration up to 65%.
The Materia Herba line is free of parabens, propylene glycol, silicones, sulphates, ethanolamine, synthetic colors, and other things that purists hate. And no animal by-products or testing. Sounds good, right? It's a soap-free, gentle, and effective. Materia Herba Toning Cleansing Foam washes away makeup and impurities, while protecting against dehydration, free radical damage, and inflammation.
How does it do that? Naturally derived salicylic acid breaks up oil and bacteria and sloughs off dead skin cells, controlling blemishes and purging pores. Glyco-oligosaccharide, a biological balancing agent, gently cleanses and purifies the skin using natural sugars. Natural glycolipids (derived from soy, sunflower, and wheat) enhance the cleansing process by neutralizing the oxidation of oils and proteins, which can lead to inflammation and premature aging. Certified organic hamamelis floral water’s mild astringent and skin-soothing, anti-inflammatory benefits are included to reveal a fresh, glowing complexion. Certified organic olive leaf, a non-oily extract, provides antioxidant protection against both external and internal free radical damage. Centaurea floral water calms the eyes and soothes the skin.
This cleanser is marketed for all skin types. While it's nice on my dry, sensitive skin, the ingredients tell a story that makes it perfect for combo and oily skin as well. After using it, I feel clean and soft. That's enough for me! This has become my morning cleanser, stashed in my shower, where I use it to wash away the night's dreams. I love the pump container; it's fast and convenient.
I bought mine from Beautorium. It's also available at Sephora and Korres.com. Check for special offers!

Korres Giveaway Contest Winners

So, I decided to dig into my "storehouse" and provide three prizes because we had so many entertaining entries. The Fig Body Butter will go to Nicole, and a Quince Body Butter will go to Marci, who wrote a creative poem. A Fig Showergel will go to Cynthia because she's a subscriber, and I love my subscribers. Congratulations, my friends! That's three giveaways from what started as one. Can't afford to do that too often, but since Korres sent me a gift, I'm paying it forward.
Your e-mails were lovely, and, as usual, I wanted to give all of you a Korres product, particularly you fellow environmentalists who care about our planet. For my readers who feel they can't afford to try Korres, there are always family holiday lists! Don't your family members always say (you can substitute whatever holiday name applies here), "What do you want for Christmas?"
This coming week, we will launch our next giveaway contest for an Armani Beauty Fluid Sheer, donated to Best Things in Beauty by the Saks Fifth Avenue Armani Beauty Team. Stay tuned.
*We judged last night, assuming correctly that there wouldn't be any midnight entrants.

Korres Fig Body Butter Giveaway Contest

Last month, I missed the special promotional offer celebrating the new Korres Web site. When I ordered, I didn't see the promotional item added to my shopping cart, so I e-mailed Korres customer service. I received a very nice reply, almost apologizing that I had missed the end date for the promotion. I totally understood and felt like an airhead for not noticing that in the first place.
Of course, Korres has no idea that I write a beauty blog, so what happened next was astounding. I suddenly received a shipment notice from them. I couldn't remember placing a second order, so that piqued my curiosity. Monday, the promotional gift I had wanted arrived via UPS. I am so impressed! Their customer service folks answered my inquiry promptly and caringly. Then, they far exceeded my expectations when they sent me the gift. What a gesture!
They earned a loyal customer. The best way I can thank them is by telling others. If you haven't tried Korres products, they are top-notch. Check out their environment-friendly ingredient "choices" here. I have already written about my beloved Guava and Jasmine products. Korres Yogurt Cooling Gel provides such relief to red, burned, or itchy skin! Because I have loved Guava Lip Butter for a long time, I am now trying the Lip Saver Roll ($19.50, shown above), a trio of lip butters in Pomegranate, Quince, and their newest Jasmine. So far, I'm loving them! They feel good and add a bit of shine and tint - perfect for that natural look - from a company that makes products with natural ingredients. Love them!
To celebrate the company, Best Things in Beauty will give away a full-sized Fig Body Butter. Fig is richly hydrating, with essential oils and vitamins, including Sweet Almond Oil and Vitamin E. If you want to win this fragrant body moisturizer, e-mail Bestthingsinbeautycontests@gmail.com and tell us, in three sentences or less, why you would like to try a Korres product. The deadline for entries is midnight on Saturday, August 23. A team will select the most persuasive entry. Good Luck!
For this contest, only U.S. entrants, please. I have posted this giveaway on Free!Grechen, a pretty cool site for contests and giveaways.

New Korres Jumbo Bath and Body Collection

The Showergels ($19.50) now come in a pump container, which is such an improvement. Who wants to futz with a cap when they are taking a shower? Korres Showergels are 90% natural and free of all the nasty chemicals we should avoid. Each formula is enriched with age-fighting aloe, wheat proteins, and vitamins for hydration and skin protection. Not only that, they have a divine fragrance. My own favorite Korres fragrances? Jasmine and Guava. Jasmine is, well, jasmine, and Guava is a blend of tropical fruits. Guava takes me to the islands!
For some reason, they have deep-sixed the wonderful pump containers for the Body Butter ($20) and replaced the pumps with caps and squeeze tubes in this new jumbo size. Why? The pumps were so nice. I sure hope they will continue to be available. The Body Butter product itself is superb. Each formula is enriched with shea butter to soften and moisturize, a blend of sunflower, almond, and avocado oils to restore elasticity and smoothness, and quince extract to heal and nourish. They are thick and creamy. I love using Jasmine Body Butter on my legs and arms. Not only does it smell great, it's so hydrating.
There is a wonderful Guava Body Set available at Sephora. It includes my favorite pump Body Butter, Lip Butter, and Showergel - a $43 value for $34. You will love the Guava Lip Butter. It makes your lips feel great.
Look for Showergels and Body Butters at Sephora, on the new Korres Web site, and wherever Korres products are sold (for example, Ulta).

Not So Boring Eye Makeup Removers

One product I use is a bit unusual, but it's very effective: OCuSOFT Lid Scrub Eyelid Cleanser ($13.95 for 30). These individually wrapped moistened pads are fabulous, not only for removing eye makeup, but also for exfoliating the tender skin around your eyes. They were recommended to me by my opthamologist a couple of years ago, and I have used them ever since. I buy mine at CVS. I highly recommend these pads.
I have an arsenal of other eye makeup remover products I like. I'll tell you about my most-often-used ones here and why I like them. I have a few criteria. They must be effective without rubbing, non-irritating, free of perfume, and appropriate for sensitive skin.
Let's start with the least expensive. Almay makes oil-free eye makeup remover pads that work really well and are not at all irritating to my sensitive skin. They are made with a botanical blend of aloe, cucumber, and green tea. If you go looking for them, make sure to get the Oil-Free Makeup Remover Pads. Even though they are advertised as hypo-allergenic, the moisturizing ones have oil that can seep into your eyes. These Almay pads are often on sale at drugstores. The drugstore.com price is $4.99, and there's a BOGO offer there at the moment.
Also available at some drugstores is the Vichy Purete Thermale Eye Make-up Remover Sensitive Eyes, a very nice product. I'm turning to it more and more. I buy this product at CVS - the list price is $14. It is made with Vichy's Thermal Spa Water, cornflower water, and pro-vitamin B5 (see Korres below).
Estee Lauder makes an oldie but goodie that must be a great seller to this day. I have used the Gentle Eye Makeup Remover ($15.50) on and off for many years, and I still return to it. I love the fact that it is frequently available in deluxe sample size in gifts with purchase or as sample to select on the Estee Lauder Web site.
I have been using a Korres Jasmine Eye Makeup Remover ($21 and shown above) for about a year, and I really like it. Beyond the appeal of the Korres brand's natural products, it works, feels good, and makes me feel like I'm doing something good for the environment. It's fragrance-free, gentle, and contains pro-vitamin B5 to moisturize the skin. Here's what it doesn't have: synthetic fragrances, dyes, pretrochemicals, phthalates, genetically modified organisms, or triclosan. I read a review of the product on Sephora's Web site, and the writer said that Korres has discontinued this product. Sephora still lists it, but as out of stock. That's disappointing...I wonder what Korres will introduce as its replacement. Something to anticipate!
Give one of these a try if you are looking for a new eye makeup remover!

New Korres Web Site Alert

Korres, the Greek line offering natural formulations in heavenly products, has launched its US Web site. Korres has four values: 1) naturally derived, top-quality ingredients, 2) clinicially tested effectiveness without inflated promises, 3) pleasing to the senses (and are they ever!), and 4) reasonably priced for everyday use.
Guava Body Butter, shown here, is one such product, a body moisturizer ($21) with a heavenly tropical smell - its application transports me to an island in the sun. Guava includes shea butter; sunflower, almond, and avocado oils; and quince extract - all to hydrate, prevent the signs of aging, and and nourish and restructure the skin.
To celebrate the launch, Korres is offering 20% off your entire order with the promo code PREVIEW, free shipping for the month of July, and a sampler of three best-selling products in a reusable cosmetics bag. How can you beat that? I'll be stocking up on my two favorites, Guava and Jasmine, and I'll try something new at the same time. Most likely the new Quercetin and Oak line.

Korres Introduces New Natural Anti-Aging Skin Care Products

Korres, targeting "mature" customers, is introducing some new products containing "Quercetin and Oak," citing the oak tree's longevity as a factor in its anti-aging products. Quercetin, or oak tree bark, is said to boost proteasome activity, which decreases as we age. Sephora has exclusive rights to the products, one night cream and two day cream formulations with SPF 10 (one for normal-to-dry skin and the other for normal-to-combination skin).
The night cream ($52), shown here, combines the following active ingredients listed on Sephora.
Regenerative Oak Extract: Firms and plumps aging skin, radically boosting collagen and elastin production;
Quercetin Active: Delivers the most active, well-established polyphenol for maximum antioxidant protection; catalyzes proteasome activity in skin cells, dramatically improving cellular function and creating more youthful, healthy, elastic skin;
Mourera Fluviatilis: Constantly regulates the optimum hydration of the cells, maintaining their health and improving their quality; and
Myrtle Active Extract: Enhances intercellular communication, visibly increasing skin density, protecting collagen fibers, and significantly boosting elasticity.
All without those nasty chemicals, such as parabens and sulfates, that we don't need to absorb!
The day cream ($48), housed in a nice pump container, lists slightly different ingredients, depending on the skin type formulation you select. See Sephora for the day cream ingredient lists.
I love Korres products, and I'm dying to get my hands on the night cream! The products are listed today as "out of stock," but they will be arriving mid-month, and I've put my name on the e-mail list to find out as soon as they are available.
Please let me know what you think if you try them.
