The Friday Forum - January 25

I found this photo on Facebook. What do you think? I think that darling dog could sell more Chanel N°5 than Brad has.

Today is a very busy day for me. I just came home from a relatively early dentist appointment, will go out mid-day for an epidural (second in a series of three), and then have a 3:30 conference call - right about the time the heavens are predicted to open up and dump another one inch of snow on us. Snow and rush hour do not mix well in the DC area, so I'm glad I will be home, safe, and watching the traffic/accident reports with my purring cat.

You probably know that I love Kilian Hennessy's fragrances. This week, I read about his expansion plans in WWD. At the end of last year, By Kilian opened its first standalone store, a 756-square-foot space at the Crocus City Mall in Moscow. Hennessy confirmed his plans to open stores in Paris and New York and said he is currently hunting for space. That will make Kilian's fragrances more accessible across the world. Just a little trivia...the article also said that Rihanna pre-purchased two of the scents, In the City of Sin and Good Girl Gone Bad, at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills. That plus the news that Tim Quinn (Giorgio Armani) did Dr. Jill Biden's makeup for the Inauguration was my celebrity news of the last few days.

Estée Lauder will have a spring promotion - a collaboration with Lilly Pulitzer. With their history rooted in both New York City and Palm Beach, Estée Lauder and Lilly Pulitzer share classic beauty and timeless luxury. Limited-edition gifts with purchase will bring together iconic Lilly Pulitzer prints and signature Estée Lauder products in one complete set. The spring gift collections feature retailer-exclusive Lilly Pulitzer print cosmetic bags filled with essential Estée Lauder skincare and makeup samples perfect for the spring season. They will be available at select department and specialty stores with a qualifying Estée Lauder purchase. The GWP shown above will be available at the Estée Lauder Web site. Other bags will be available at Lord & Taylor, Dillard's, Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Belk, Nordstrom (really cute bag), and Bon Ton. Keep your eyes open if you're a Lilly gal.

It's time for the Friday Forum. I love this part of our week. What new products did you discover this week? Did you find any deals you couldn't resist? Are you using a fabulous product and want to sing its praises? Did you find a beauty product disappointing? Do you have a question others might be able to answer? Want to talk about skin care? What's new in your life? Just use the comments. Don't be shy. Just make sure to ask any question you might have over the weekend. By early the next week, most (not all) readers will have moved on.

Don't forget this week's giveaway contest for Benefit's Ticket to Glossytown Lip Shine Set. I think it's a great set. The deadline for entries is tomorrow, Saturday, January 26, at midnight.

Hi CG! I love this part of the week, too. This week I'm trying out the new RBR foundation. I've also ordered of their new eye shadows, Eclipse Eagle and looking forward to slathering it on in my messy style.

I had Monday off but it seems to make the 4-day work week go so terrible long. Why is this? I am over the cold and the snow. I'm not looking forward to driving in this this evening. Wish me luck.

I'm looking into fragrances a bit more and wondering if you or your readers know of any complex rose-based ones to try. So far I've tried Delire de Rose from Caron and Tom Ford's Cafe Rose. Not 100% in love with either.

Happy Friday, everyone!!

Well. by now you know I'm a makeup and skincare cheapie, but sometimes the inexpensive stuff works wonders, too. One product I'm really happy I picked up is Walgreen's Vitamin E Skin Oil. It has two ingredients: Safflower oil and Tocopheryl Acetate, better known as Vitamin E. This stuff is great for dry skin! I pour a few drops into my palm, smooth it on my face at night before bed, and when I wake up, all my dry, flaky patches and sores are gone or visibly reduced. It costs $8.99, but I bought it for $7.99 on sale at the local Walgreens, and I've seen it on sale online for $6.99. It comes in a 4.8 ounce bottle, and you only need a few drops, so it lasts a long time.

Also, just wanted to say, Charleston Girl, how much I enjoy your blog and your Friday Forum, as well as your take on the Inauguration and life in general.

Hi Bellyhead!

I've been meaning to order that new RBR foundation, and I keep forgetting.

When you say complex rose, what do you mean? There are a zillion roses to try - everything from Juliette Has a Gun Lady Vengeance (http://bestthingsinbeauty.blogspot.com/2010/02/juliette-has-gun-lady-vengeance.html) to Joe Malone Rose Water & Vanilla Cologne Intense (http://bestthingsinbeauty.blogspot.com/2011/07/jo-malone-rose-water-vanilla-cologne.html). I'd recommend you go to a department store or fragrance store counter and ask to sample rose fragrances. The best way to learn what you like is by sniffing.

Hi Edith,

Thanks. Isn't it wonderful when you find something inexpensive that you love - and that works for you? Vitamin E is fabulous for the skin in any form. All of the drugstores have their own proprietary labels, but it's easy to find. Good for you!

Well I finally finished that horribly smelling Derma-E Vitamin C cream by using it on my body too. Hate to waste! I'm looking forward to trying my new Shiseido moisturizer. Very excited as I bought it on pharmacy store points! I was given a Shiseido foaming face wash as a gift, but it's rather drying.

Nothing else new here. The EL blush/highlighter you reviewed that I tried to buy is still out of stock and may remain that way. Hmmmm, is that a sign, maybe?? :-D Here's to hoping ;-)

Have a good weekend!

The best rose fragrances I've found are both by Jo Malone: Red Roses (perfect for V day) and Tuberose. And, yes, if that little dog were the spokeperson for CHANEL No. 5, I'd buy it again.

That fuzzy little Chanel doggie is making me want to have fuzzie little animal babies. XD Happy Friday, CG!

Bellyhead said...

thanks CG and Nemo! I forgot I wanted to stop by Jo Malone!! I was thinking of complex in the sense that it would not be a singularly rose-based fragrance. I kind of enjoy the Tom Ford because it has a hefty dose of incense in it. I will need to walk to the stores and start smelling.

Denmark is absolutely FREEZING these days, and I've been ill so my mum and my doctor made me promise I wouldn't go out unless I really had to. I've been cooped up in my apartment for three days now! I'm almost looking forward to buying books for my next semester tomorrow even though it's gonna set me back $350. I wish this winter would be over very very soon...

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Lovethescents!

Didn't you get it for $40?

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Nemo,

I love Jo's Red Roses, but it's not complex. It's all rose and beautifully so. You know tuberose is an entirely different flower? I adore tuberose and have a great collection of some of the best.

Two wonderful flowers for perfume!

Hi BooBoo,

That little dog is so cute. If he were at my Chanel counter, I'd overspend.

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Bellyhead,

Red Roses is all rose. Check out this page: http://www.sniffapaloozamagazine.com/rose.html

Charlestongirl said...

Me too, Ida. One little dose of it, and I'm done.

That little fluffy dog is adorable! This week I started using Delancy Wellness Rejuvenating Eye Cream. I received a deluxe sample in by BeautyBar box last month. The full size bottle is $135. I've noticed anything truly remarkable and I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this product.
I'd also like to ask for any feedback on the Baby Quasar MD Plus. I've been using this little gadget religiously for about three weeks and haven't noticed any notable changes in skin tone or fine lines. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Happy Friday!
Bea

I spied Tarte BB cream at Ulta and will purchase with my 20% coupon on Sunday. (at least if it is eligible). I am loving the Tarte line and it fits my budget. I have to go to Nordstrom too and see the new spring colors. I am sure something will come home with me. My skin issue these days is dryness. I haven't found a cream yet that works better than sleeping with a humidifier in the room.
I have so many fragrance wants I don't know where to start. I must check out the new Balenciaga rose one. Thanks so much for your blog CG! I really enjoy reading you daily and reading the comments to see what everyone else is doing.

Charlestongirl said...

Thanks, Anne. Have fun shopping!

Charlestongirl said...

Bea, from what I understand, the Baby Quasar is a waste of money. However, there are some new products coming out soon that are supposed to be ultra-effective. Stay tuned.

Charlestongirl said...

Bellyhead,

I should have mentioned the A DOZEN ROSES fragrances, all of which have "more than rose."

You are right!!! That doggie would shift more Chanel than old brad!!!

Hi CG! This may be a bit off topic, but I was wondering f you could do a skincare update post? The past 10 years I have experienced pretty dramatic changes in my skin - going from oily and acned to dry, aging and sensitive. After spending most of my life battling breakouts, I am now baffled! I need firming more than anti-wrinkle, as my family is "thick-skinned" if you know what I mean! Thank you for considering!

Meredith said...

I'm so sorry to hear of your medical troubles. Between the dentist (I went this week too) and the epidurals, it sounds like you've really been through the wringer. I don't understand about the epidurals. Wouldn't this paralyze you? Yes, stay home and snug with your kitty. Best place to be if you ask me. Hope you feel better soon.

Meredith said...

I am wildly allergic to Vit. E (tocopherol). Hideous stuff! Once, I opened many vit. e capsules and mixed the oil with some salt and sugar to make my own body scrub. I can't begin to tell you the torment I was in for a full week. The itching nearly drove me crazy. I'll never touch it again. Perhaps Edith, you could just pop open a capsule of Vit. E and mix it with a few drops of Safflower oil from the market. Mix your own concoction and keep it in a dropper bottle. It will probably be lots less expensive and fresher when you make your own.

Meredith - I'm not CG but I've had epidurals for to try & help with pain mgmt. To help with pain management epidural steroid injections can be given. The steroids are injected into the epidural space. This is different than epidural anesthesia which is what is given during childbirth. HTH

That pup is darling! I would certainly buy what he is selling!

I like Lilly Pulitzer in small doses - like the size of the GWP bag. I will have to keep my eyes open as there will be a variety of bags depending on where you shop. Thanks for the heads up!

Isn't he adorable? That cute little bundle is Boo. He's very popular and he even has his own facebook page! He's just too cute. Please check out this youtube video... one of many!

Hi Erisachick,

Boo is a Pomeranian. There are some adorable images of him that you can google and, as Lisa mentioned, there are some YouTube videos. Isn't he just the cutest?

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Lady Jicky!

Read below. Apparently, this is a known dog. So many cute pets have their own Facebook pages! I follow Grumpy Cat. He is a hoot.

Charlestongirl said...

Nina, it's very hard to write a one size fits all post. Always turns into one size fits none. Make sure you saw my skin care wrap-up for 2012 in the first week of January. Also, I have several great products to introduce in the near future.

Charlestongirl said...

Meredith, the epidural a are cortisone shots in the spine. If done right, they make you feel better. Something didn't go we'll Friday, though. I have really hurt for two days. Win some, lose some.

I don't think it's a good idea to play chemist. That's what skin care companies are for. You don't know the stability of a product intended for one use when you use it for another.

Charlestongirl said...

They have press photos of all of them, Lov2read, but. I figured a page of Lilli might be an overdose. The bags are all cute.

lovethescents said...

Oh Charlestongirl, it's out of stock on the EL website altogether. I didn't get it at all. The email said they would contact me if/when it's available....

Charlestongirl said...

Lovethescents,

This is VERY strange because it appears that it is available to me.
