Chanel Lumières Facettes Quadra Eye Shadow in Quadrille from the Notes du Printemps Collection for Spring 2014

I did a really fast counter review of the Spring 2014 Chanel Notes du Printemps Collection (I was tired) and selected four items - to start. Today, I'll show you the Lumières Facettes Quadra Eye Shadow in Quadrille (#537). It went onto my purchase list the moment I saw it. Bless her hear. Nicky must be used to speed shoppers. She (Neiman Marcus Mazza Gallerie) was shoveling my choices out as fast I named them.

Given model Vanessa Axent's look, it's hard to draw a bead on a theme. I have not read any promotional material, but I saw a strong lean toward peach and coral with neutral eyes. I like it.

The Lumières Facettes Quadra Eye Shadow in Quadrille (#537, $59) is a neutral palette with a twist. The peach adds the sweet spring twist. Otherwise, it's a mix of brown, mauve, and ivory. I hesitated when I saw the mauve shade, thinking it would be "too red" for me. I don't care for eye shadows that make me look like an albino bunny, but this one passed the test.

I swatched all four shades with a sponge-tipped applicator and took photos in full, late-morning sun. I started at the top left with the mauve shade at the top of my arm and worked clockwise until I finished with the peach.

The top mauve shade has enough brown in it that it looks good on my eyelids. As you can see on my heavily swatched arm, the ivory shade is extremely sheer and light. It will make a nice base shade or highlighter. The lovely bruise came courtesy of black ice.

The brown is brown. It's a cool brown - nice, but not distinctive. The peach is really pretty - on my arm and on the eyes. Just think - if you don't want to accent your neutral eye with a touch of peach, you can wear it on your cheeks.

I like this quad. I am anxious to hear your reactions. I know some will not find it distinctive, while others will appreciate the unique divergence from a formula.

I purchased mine at Neiman Marcus. I'm sure it will be available at all Chanel counters, as well as online. I do not see it at Chanel's Web site yet.

There are two Chanel Illusion d’Ombré in the collection: Impulsion (way too pink) and Diapason, a violet-plum brown that is too red for me. Both of them are out of my comfort zone, so I purchased neither. There is also a duo on the display: nice, but not heart-revving. This was my only eye purchase. I need to go back and look at the eyeliners.

Oh my goodness Chanel Spring has already arrived! It looks like a beautiful collection. The quad looks lovely in your swatches!

Makeup Magpie, can you believe it? Spring in December!

Thank you.

I hope you're feeling better after your fall, CG! That bruise looks nasty but hopefully you are healing well :)

And that quad...my goodness! It's so pretty! I have a very serious weakness for eyeshadow pairings of peach and brown, for some reason--it's just SO gorgeous and immensely flattering! I actually don't own any Chanel eyeshadows, now that I think of it (shocking, I know!) so I think maybe I will have to go out and treat myself to this one asap! :P

hi charleston girl! i hope you are feeling better!! i told myself do not go to the chanel counter and do not buy the spring collection. i thought i would splurge on something that i could not purchase here, like armani or tom ford. unfortunately my chanel-itis took complete control over me! last week my local counter had 20% off. i managed to just get another prelude quad. this weekend it was 10%. usually spring comes exactly on christmas eve. it really threw me off when it arrived earlier this week! i purchased the quad as well. i seem to go thru eyeshadow quickly...sure wish those squares would be a bit larger. i bought all the glosses. i know plasir is a repromote but peter philips seemed to use it in every runway show so, i had to have it. i also bought the peachy pink creme blush. the lippies were the hardest part because they were all out of my comfort zone but, i walked away with the 2 rouge coco formulas and the red raspberry lipliner. i thought that was pretty. i didn't see any new eyeliners. i'm anxious to see the rest of your purchases as i have similar coloring to you. i just know i'll cave in and buy the dark nail color. please watch that ice! it was a bit warmer here and i see people running around especially in parking lots. that's where i've noticed it the most. anyway, all my chanel purchases are tucked away with a large post it that says do not open until 2014! before i left i passed the clarins counter. why did i have to look at their new spring collection? i thought it was very pretty! i tried on their sheer lip colors. have you tried them? i thought they were just amazing!! to top that off before i left, "the guerlain lady" flagged me down. although their collection didn't arrive yet, she had one of the lip glosses and creme blush testers to show me. you were sooo right in saying spring will be a bonanza....a beautiful bonanza!! xxxxooo to you!!

Hi Charlestongirl,

What an unbelievable sight! It's hard to believe that Spring has been released pre-Christmas. That said, CHANEL Quadrille looks gorgeous! The combination of pinky peach with mauve is brilliant, and I'm so very tempted, to say the least !

I was sorry to hear about your fall. I hope you're feeling better and healing quickly! I told myself that I wasn't going to buy the new quad, but your swatches are convincing me to go check it out. Although, I may wait until at least January to check out this Spring collection. December does seem a little early for Spring.

I'll be picking up my quad tomorrow when I go to take a look at the rest of the collection. The counter was quite hectic when I stopped by on Saturday and so I just asked my Chanel gal to put Quadrille aside for me. As soon as I saw it, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that it would be perfect with my coloring. And, yes, I will definitely wear all four colors on my eyes :-) When I first saw the promo pictures, I thought the quad looked very similar to Éclosion (one of my faves from spring 2012), but those colors are warm and burnished whereas Quadrille's colors are cool and fresh. In short, Éclosion and Quadrille are similar in concept but quite different in execution. So, I'm glad to be getting it. As for the rest of the collection, I'll take a look tomorrow morning when it is more quiet and relaxed.

This quad looks pretty, but I think I'll be more excited about the lip products in this collection! I am very anxious to see some swatches of those! Looking forward to your thoughts on them

I am completely in love with the coral/peach color theme of this collection. And I cannot wear any of them.

Hi Charleston girl!

I hope you're feeling better and recovering swiftly!

I was so shocked to see the spring collection out, as I swear they normally start popping up at counters right after Christmas.

The collection was lovely! I thought everything looked incredibly boring in promo images, but to my surprise and delight, the brown eyeshadows turned out to be more mauve toned with a fresh pop of peach. I probably won't be picking anything up, though, as I purchased way too many eyeshadow palettes from various Christmas collections (including the Urban Decay's Naked 3, Vice, some Bare Escentuals, etc.) which I know have similar shades. Plus, I can always grab one of my peach/coral blushes and use that as my eyeshadow.

I think my husband might be surprising me with something, though. LOL! He was there when I swatched and ooh'd and ahh'd it!

@ Wendy, which counter do you go to?? I never heard Chanel was doing any discounts ever, you are very lucky!!! I love this quad a lot, I just hope there is enough pigmentation and nice blending power ;-))

I bought my CHANEL spring last week. I love the quad; I also bought the 2 crème blushes, all 6 lipsticks, 2 of the 3 glosses and all 3 polishes. It is a beautiful collection bursting with spring color. I love it. Now here is a Q: Somewhere while I was at the counter I saw something called Pink Twist or Twisted Pink. I called the counter later to ask about it and they said they had never heard of it. But I saw it. Am I nutz? Don't answer that; just let me know if there is a lip color with twist in the name!

My kind of colors. I will be buying this one.

I had a chance to buy from the Spring collection last Saturday. I had called my Nordstroms as I was almost out of foundation, and they told me the Spring collection was in. I just can't bring myself to think about Spring right now. But, I did have a nice surprise: Nordstroms was matching a special 10% off all cosmetics by Lord & Taylor. I almost fainted when she told me this included Chanel. I can't ever remember Chanel being included in a discount. I had to collect my thoughts and call her back with my order! lol

Nemo: As I understand it, Pink Twist is the Spring Rouge Double Intensité. You are not nuts! lol

I also see the peachy/coral trend continued for spring. Maybe this time meshing with some darker maroon/brown. Whatever it is, it's definitely appealing. I think you said it perfectly that if the shadow doesn't work out in your favor, at least the mauve, ivory and peach can be used as blush! Thank you for sharing the swatches, CG!

Oh my word! The pinky peach is stunning and quite unusual. This quad looks like a must have!! I do hope you're feeling better.

And to think I was at Nordstrom last week and asked what was new and interesting and the girl had only LNcome to show me. They might not have gotten it I'm yet.

Kind of amazed at a "Spring" collection already on the counters! Couldn't they have called it resort? Or was that out in August??? ha ha
I think it's pretty, but nothing too different from what I already own. I'll pass. But I DO love the ad image!

This looks nice. Looks like I will be making a trip to the Chanel counter after Christms.

Rosemary, did I read you correctly? Nordstrom does price matching? Seriously? I keep reading lately that these counters are having specials. What kind of specials/discounts are we talking about because I have never had my Nordies or Neimans associate tell me such thing!

Eileen said...

Hi Nemo,

MAC has a lipstick called Twisted Pink. You can google the image and see if that's what you saw at the counter :-)

Charlestongirl said...

Chris, please check out Wendy's comment above.

Hi Charleston Girl! Yes, I was referring to Wendy and Rosemary's posts about the sales. I purchased a few items from my counters (different stores/locations/during special events)) over the past two weekends and everything was regular price. My guess is it's just local, then. That's too bad!--though maybe good for my wallet! :)

Rosemary said...

Chris, I have no idea if this price matching is a policy now at Nordstroms (or other stores for that matter) or not. I was totally shocked because, as anyone who buys Chanel on a regular basis knows, they never give discounts.

Here’s exactly what happened: I was running out of foundation and on Saturday I called my Chanel advisor at Nordstroms. I actually got the Cosmetics Department Manager. She told me my advisor was not working and that she would help me with my Chanel order. She then said that all cosmetics—including Chanel—were 10% off because Nordstroms had decided they would match a 10% off special that Lord & Taylor were offering. After I recovered from the shock (I really did have to call her back), I half-jokingly complained that I wished my advisor had called me and let me know about the discount so I that could have adjusted my beauty budget accordingly. The CDM laughed and said, “We did not know ourselves until this very morning.” The discount was only available on Saturday, so I really just stumbled into a nice deal.

I did think of letting CG know in case she wanted to post about it, but it was later in the afternoon and I remembered that she was going to try to go the mall. It would be nice if we all had some notice about these special deals, but I don’t know how it would work.

OK That's it! I'm officially jealous and I'm not afraid to say it. I thought this collection would arrive in January (in February in my country) and now seeing that you've already take a look at it in person and swatched the products makes me even more anxious. I can't believe I have to wait almost 2 months to buy it. :(((

LilJeJa said...

Did you by any chance take a look at the duo?

Charlestongirl said...

Hi, yes, it's there near the lower left corner of the display. It's very nice, but not exciting to someone who has a room full of makeup.

this comment is perhaps a bit late, but nordstrom has done price matching for some time. I recall becoming aware of this in summer 2012. However, i've never heard of them straight out offering it!

On cyber monday i did the online chat on nordstrom's site and got items price matched from the chantecaille and armani sales. Hope that helps!
