Why Did I Disappear Again?

No picture needed for this post. I started blogging again in October after I had recovered fully from my right knee replacement (that was two major surgeries in one year). I had been looking for a new job/consulting work - and I'm still looking. That is time-consuming. Then, a series of things happened.
  • I had new knee problems. One was diagnosed as a pulled tendon below my knee, no doubt from lifting heavy things.
  • My mother was hospitalized for eight days, and she is still ill. I try to see her every day. The CT scans showed multiple things wrong with her - one really serious that I don't want to talk about. I took her to a urologist last week in hopes of curing a lasting UTI. He is very good and put her on a new medication today. Cipro was not working. The culture told him why.
  • I've been holding off on spinal epidurals, waiting for my favorite interventional radiolgist to return from heart surgery. My stenosis is painful!
  • Miscellaneous events that took over my spare time. such as the moronic woman driving an SUV who ran into my car while I was pumping gas. I suspect everyone knows how time consuming it is to get an estimate, arrange with her insurance company to pay all damages, get and return a rental car - all things I didn't need in the last month.
  • Without a job, I've been on a makeup diet.
Unfortunately, as much as I love blogging, I had to put it aside until this weekend. In the last few days, I have spent retirement money on some new things, and I have had to take photos using store testers (in inadequate light). I can't buy everything I want without a job, and I'm reluctant to feature older things - although I might as long as you can still buy them. I think there is nothing worse than featuring a lovely product with the snide, "but you can't buy it" that other bloggers post.

Since I decided to start blogging again this week, I got an "unsubscribe notice" that said the reader was dropping my infrequent posts because I didn't post often enough. That was a low blow. If she had known my circumstances, she might have checked "no longer relevant" and spare me the silent lecture.

Anyhow, my willpower is back, and I plan to start showing you new features. The next one will be about NEST Fragrances - probably tonight - and I'll jump to Rouge Bunny Rouge from there. I feel I owe other companies for sending me gratis products to try during my recuperations. I love some of the products, and the PR people have been so good to me.

So, in a nutshell, there you have it. You know why I started blogging again in October and abruptly stopped. I'm currently committed to make time for this blog, and I hope all my medical drama will end soon. Oh, and I need a new job. Anyone want to hire me? [She says with a big smile.]

Greetings Charlestongirl! So happy to see a post from you! I'm sorry you have been through so many challenges this year. Please know your faithful followers will always be there if/when you are in the 'posting mood!' You do not owe any of us an explanation. Your hands have been quite full taking care of what really matters - your health and family. I find your comments refreshing and never feel like I have to wonder if your perspective is biased. Also, some of the techniques noted are informative whether used on the products you illustrate or not so I would be happy to read posts on previously launched/established items or lines. Take care of yourself and Happy Holidays!

I may be the odd girl out, but reviews of products that were LE and no longer available don't bother me at all. In fact, sometimes those reviews add another item to my ebay watch list.

I hope you' ll be fine soon, with health and work 🙏
Blogging is very difficult, I apreciate all your posts, you have my love and admiration.

Oh, CG, I am so very sorry to hear about the health issues that have plagued you and your mom. I can totally empathize because I have the "triple whammy" as I call it: Degenerative arthritis, herniated discs, and spinal stenosis...all in my lower back. I had a highly successful surgery on a ruptured disc 3 weeks before my eldest daughter's wedding and my one request of my surgeon was, "Please let me dance at my daughter's wedding!" And I DID! Hold out for the right Dr, because it's worth it. The rest of my current health problems are getting old to talk about, so...

On to makeup! I'd love to hear about the latest NEST fragrances (interested in Indigo), Chantecaille, Dior liquid lipsticks, and of course, RBR. Their products are so gorgeous, but my one complaint is I'd love to see a wider range of lip colors, including glosses. And I definitely want to see more of the "Chanel teaser"!

As for people that unfollow, try not to take it personally. Some people move on in our lives and come and go, and some stay with us for the long haul. Those are the ones that matter! Bless you, dear beauty!

Please don't feel pressured to tell us why you haven't been blogging--you don't need any excuse! And long time readers who keep up will know what's going on. I always look forward to your posts, but I can be patient and wait until you are ready and able to blog again :) Take care!

I hope your mom will be OK. I also care for my elderly mom, I love her so. She is 87 now and has Parkinsons and dementia. All I can do is my best for her. I have a few tricks up my sleeve! Good luck to you and your mom.

I'm always very interested to read whatever you write CG. Life can be incredibly difficult at times but I think sharing that with those who care can sometimes ease the burden. I'm certain there are some here who do, as I know I am going to keep you and your mom in my prayers. I ask for the same ... How's that?! xoxo

Hi Charlestongirl! I wish you a speedy recovery and hope all the issues you are dealing with get resolved soon.

It's always nice to hear your opinion on items, whether new or old, so I'll be looking forward to reading upcoming posts! I know were on a hiatus for a while, but I always checked back occasionally just in case you felt the urge to share with us, so I'm excited that you feel like posting more often now. :)

So sorry you are through all this pain! (Physically and emotionally)..., life again with its ups and downs... Sending all the west to you and your mom my best wishes for a recovery and a relaxing Christmas season. I pray for that. Love

I don't get offended if I don't see a post from a blogger I follow for a long while, nor do I unsubscribe. I understand that life often gets in the way of things that we love doing. And when a blogger whom I haven't seen in a while posts something, it's even more pleasureable to read because you realize how much you appreciate and enjoy those posts. I'm happy that you're back, even if it may be briefly.

Blogging is not only about makeup & beauty. I, as I am sure your other loyal followers, look forward to your posts about anything. You had more than your share of difficulties recently. It might be good for you to write whenever you feel like it.

Oh, Dear. You have had quite a time, and I am very sorry to hear it. Job hunting is always a challenge, but it forces us to remember what our (YOUR) marvelous talents and skills are, and that can be a good thing. I sincerely wish that you will have speedy success in that area. And, hey, why not blog about old things that are still available? We won't be bored, I promise! I am constantly referring to you with regard to online purchases of items that are not available here on the Moon where I live. You really are a wonderful resource.
I want to express my true sympathy with regard to your health problems, and your poor Mother's. Words can be inadequate when it comes to these things, or least they are for me.
In closing, let me wish you and your's much joy and love at Christmas.

Hi CG! I was happy to see a new blog post notice in my inbox from you. I'm sorry to hear that you've had so many health & other issues to deal with. As for the unsubscribe notice that you received and the silent lecture you felt came with it, let it roll right off your back. Those of us that have read you for awhile enjoy your posts whenever they appear - frequent or not!

Blogging is not an easy undertaking & I admire those that do it with thought and substance! You definitely fall into that category! You post your own pics, don't regurgitate a press release and always give your honest opinion. I'll take that kind of blog post any day of the week over fluff pieces!

Wishing you and your mother health!

Nice to see you in my inbox again! Sorry to hear you have been going through such a rough patch. I hope you're feeling better and back in the game really soon.

D Mannose- the supplement- it's a UTI miracle. I give it to my mother and my dog- lol. They each get one teaspoon of the powder in the AM and PM. During an active UTI, I give them 4-6 teaspoons per day. But, as long as they stay on D Mannose, the UTIs stay gone. They both had back to back UTIs for years. And now, almost never.
Google it. Try it!

Those are a lot of things to deal with in a short amount of time. I hope things go more smoothly for you from now on. I would be happy to see reviews of older items that are still available, best of posts or generally what you fancy at the moment. As long as you write I will be glad to read it.

You are one amazing and resilient lady. We are happy to hear from you, when and if, you can get to it. Your plate is obviously full right now. Sorry to hear about your Mom. She is in my prayers. I hope your knee and back feel better soon.
Motor vehicle accidents are a pain. It sounds like no one was hurt, and that is good. All the running around after insurance is exhausting. I am really glad you are back, and look forward to your comments, opinions etc..

Hi Charlestongirl,

Hope you and you momma recover fast. My prayers are with you. Know that we will always be here in the interweb. And irrespective whether you post LE, old or new stuff, I really love your take on things. That's why I always check back and love your blog <3 You were one of the first makeup related blogs I read, and today a few years later, I've had the courage to start my Instagram page, which is beauty related. I would be honored to see you there, maybe talking to other beauty addicts might cheer you ? My instagram handle is @the.bling.factor ! Much love ! Take care please XOXO

I confess, I was just thinking I should unsubscribe when to my delight you posted one of your helpful reviews. I just thought you had retired. I am grateful for any of your reviews, whenever you have time to post them. You were the first beauty blogger I started following and I found many other good ones through you. I am loyal. Sad about the illnesses and mishaps that have been invading your life. Try not to take personally the loss of one reader. Best wishes to you and your famly this holiday season.

Life happens--no explanation needed. Of course, you feel compelled to explain because you are a conscientious, caring, and responsible person--traits that we have seen in you time and time again--but really, you don't owe us any explanations; especially if they are painful as in the case of your mom's delicate health. Just do as much or as little as gives you pleasure, Charlestongirl, and we'll be there to enjoy it with you.

I think there are a lot of bloggers who do a wonderful job without ever really purchasing much. Often I will see them at the cosmetic counters, swatching and photographing, chatting with the SA's about the products, sometimes dashing outside to get some pictures in better light. They've obviously developed a solid relationship with the SA's and you can, too. You've just been out of the loop for awhile, but the attitude towards bonafide, reputable bloggers has been steadily changing. Whereas the SA's used to have a don't swatch, don't photograph attitude, more of them are realizing that a blogger's pleasurable experience at a particular counter, combined with a favorable product review, can translate into increased sales for the counter. Win-win! So, Charlestongirl, we really don't care whether or not you actually purchased the item--although I know it is hard to resist all the beautiful things that are available ;-) It's your articulate reviews and honest opinions that we prize and we're all very happy to have you back with us.

Charlestongirl said...

I love you all. Thank you. Thanks also for any prayers sent her way. She needs them.

All the best and full and total recovery for you and your mother (and good health to all and everybody you care about)! Take whatever time you need - sure, we, your readers, enjoy reading you but you're a friend, not a slave. Most of people don't share their thoughts and opinions with the world without any troubles to justify it - free world :). Let all the troubles remain in (almost gone) 2015!

I always enjoy seeing your posts, no matter how frequent (or in). I think even without health or work issues, it has got to be challenging to keep running on that wheel of buying the latest and greatest. I'd be happy with your opinions on what's out and what's coming regardless of whether or not you own the items. And best of luck with the job search - I just went through this and it is definitely an added stressor. Hope your mom improves, your health does too, and that the perfect job for you is just around the corner. Happy holidays!

I was thrilled to see a post from you. I thought that I has been dropped for some reason. I hate the circumstances that bogged you down. I pray that you and your mother have better days ahead. Please post about anything you're inclined to, it's always interesting.

As always I'm happy to see posts from you whenever they come. The priority is life, not blogging and people should remember that....and put the entitlement complex to the side.

I wish you and your mom well, I hope 2016 will be a better and more peaceful year for you and us all. :)

I'm glad to see you've got your head above water again! It sounds like you've had a lot of negative things pulling you down. But, you've come to a place to begin a positive state of mind. We love your posts and reviews and are glad you're back. My motto, (and everyone in this family has it ingrained into their minds thanks to the last couple years...): keep moving forward. You do the best you can at the moment, keep moving forward and things get done and you move on to the next thing.
Glad you're back!
Keep your chin up!

It's always a pleasure to read one of your posts whenever you have time to write one. And if it's useful to you, yours is the only blog that I'm subscribed and I've never thought to unsubscribed!
You can write about the weather forecast, cooking or make up that it will always be worth to read it.

To say that I hope that things turn around for you would be an huge understatement. I've always enjoyed reading your blog, and I'm so glad that you were willing to explain why it's been quiet. Wishing you and your mother good health and blessings.

I would happily read your thoughts on new products without you purchasing or even doing a swatch photo. You obviously love checking out the counters and once you post then others comment which is also full of useful information.

I'm so sorry to hear you've been going through so much. I've often thought of you & wondered how you were doing. When your blogging stopped, I knew things must have been difficult since blogging is your passion. I often sat down to email you but couldn't press the send button because I didn't know if you would appreciate hearing from me. I'm glad your mom is hanging in there and she sounds like a tough lady who can overcome more than you give her credit. Seems like you've been hit with bombs from all sides, your health, your mom's health and looking for a job. But I know you always persevere and 2016 will bring much better times ahead.

Those who have disappeared because you stopped blogging for awhile, I say good riddance. You have always been so generous to your followers doing weekly, often more, contests of very expensive products. You put your heart and soul into your blog, got to know your many followers, always answering every question asked. You explained your products beautifully, highlighted the best products soon to be released on the market, even assisted your fans in being able to buy hard to purchase, or hard to find products.

If some of these people unsubscribed because they couldn't understand you were going through some personal issues then all they wanted from you were free goodies and were never really your friends or followers. Friends stick together in good and bad times.

My prayers for you and your mom for 2016 is for excellent health, happiness, and prosperity. Baby steps but you'll get back where you need to be and once were before you know it.

Sending blessings and lots of love from New York.

Dear CG, I hope things will look up for you soon. I learn so much from your blog, not only about beauty but about life, the ups and down and how you handle things with a resilience and fighting spirit. Keep blogging as long as it brings you pleasure, you don't owe readers anything.

Hey there, I'm a kind of recent uptaker of your blog...so i'm more than happy to replace the person who unsubscribed :-)

I like your posts and i'm sorry you've had such a crap time lately, I hope that you see better times soon and thank you very much for continuing to post your blog posts whenever you can. I for one very much enjoy them far more than a lot of the mainstream career bloggers out there. You are a welcome addition to my browsing habits :-D

I think it would be great for you to feature and review some of your classics -- top 3 red lipsticks; top 3 lipsticks to lift your mood; prettiest nude eyeshadow etc. As much as I love seeing "new" -- it's way better to see things that may be the best of the best and classic and beautiful! Happy 2016 - Belle

Oh, wow-
You have really been snowed under. Very sorry for all you have going on. I do like you makeup and fragrance reviews, but I come here because of you-your warm personality shines through. So please post about anything, anything at all, when you have time. And definitely no hard feeling when you don't have time :)
Thinking good thoughts for you, and your mother. I looked after my mom for years too. One Christmas I was between jobs-had been absolutely harassed out of a job I had for years. It was not such a nice Christmas, and i was forcing myself to do some errands. Met my favourite perfume shop owner while i was out-she told me to come to the store, that they had a basket of discontinued Guerlains put aside. Each bottle cost $20 and the proceeds went to charity. The kindness of that offer touches me still. A tiny bit of kindness and beauty can go a long way, sometimes. I find kindness and beauty go hand in hand. Which brings me back to why I come here-Best Things (and people) in Beauty, indeed.
Best of luck in 2014,
Love,
Carole
