Yesterday, the beauty industry celebrated its finest, as Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) recognized the most innovative beauty products of the year at the 17th Annual CEW Beauty Awards. The winning products spanned 26 categories, including cosmetics, hair care, skin care, sun care, and more. I showed you the finalists not too long ago. What??? I'm so shocked by the fragrance winners! Bleu? Gucci? Beyonce Heat? My goodness...

Yep....remember that niche fragrances are never "big" enough to get industry-wide attention, even though they may get a lot of attention in the fragrance world.

The WWD magazine that just came had a fab little article on niche fragrances and how they are now catching on in England, just as they did not too many years ago in the U.S.

I too was shocked by the fragrance winners and does not know one person who wears either of those scents??

Hi Hopelessly Devoted,

Y'all leave me chuckling. Of course we don't know them - but they are out there in huge numbers. Guilty and Bleu have been huge commercial successes. I'm not sure about Heat, except for the magazine pages.

I know most people aren't aware of niche fragrances, but there are far better mainstream ones out there. I quite like Annick Goutal's Le Mimosa, the Atelier Colognes are lovely, the Jo Malone tea range is interesting, and what about your recently-reviewed Jasminora?

I'll have to look for that article, thank you. The UK has a lot to offer the fragrance world, Ormonde Jayne, Floris, Penhaligon's, Jo Malone, and Basenotes too :-)

I find it very hard to believe that these products came in as #1. Were these women paid to pick those particular products? What happened to L'Athene, Ren and Rodial products just to name a few? Not buying it.
