The Friday Forum - July 11

I can't wait to start taking swatch photos this weekend. I hope the sky looks this blue.

After going through months of doctor's visits, x-rays, and physical therapy, my orthopedic surgeon  (supposedly one of the best in the area) has definitely determined that he needs to re-operate on my left knee. He believes the prosethic has come loose. Oh joy!

I asked him if the second surgery would be as "bad" as the first, and because he doesn't have to cut into any more bone, he believes the answer is no. Of course, he is the man who told me I'd be back to work in two weeks after the first replacement.

I'm fairly depressed about this situation. Bionic knees are supposed to last at least 20 years. Mine made it to 3.5 years - and we have no idea what caused it to loosen.

On to happier subjects, it's time for our weekend sharing, the Friday Forum. I love this part of our week. What new products did you discover this week? Did you find any deals you couldn't resist? Are you using a fabulous product and want to sing its praises? Did you find a beauty product disappointing? Do you have a question others might be able to answer? Want to talk about skin care? What's new in your life? Just use the comments. Don't be shy. Just make sure to ask any question you might have over the weekend. By early the next week, most (not all) readers will have moved on.

I feel really bad that you have to go through so much, CG. I dread the day when I too will have to start "doctoring" although I do a bit of that now with my GERD. I will keep you in my prayers as you face this surgery. I'm currently wrapping up a 2-week vacation that was both boring at times and yet quite stressful. My husband and I brought home a 10-wk old Brittany puppy. Our old Lab is not too keen on him, but each day seems to get a little better. I forgot just how exhausting housebreaking can be. The way time is flying for me though, he will be all grown up before I know it!

Can you get a second opinion before you proceed? I am not saying he did poor work, but perhaps see someone else before you let him do it.

Ame, great minds think alike. :) My second opinion is scheduled for July 24.

Glad you are getting a second opinion. Hope our knee will get well soon, whatever the decision.

I was just about to agree with ame when ?I saw you obviously do as well!

You are not the first person I've known where replacement goes awry. In a nutshell, a woman who works for me had both knees replaced 2 years ago. She is quite heavy, and probably shouldn't have ever done both together. Suffice it to say that she is housebound and almost totally disabled...and working from home until she retires at the end of the year. I won't bore you, but she is a "special" case, and probably should have sued. Your situation, although unfortunate, is light years away from hers!

I am totally on board with getting another opinion, CG. A revision of a joint replacement is often more complex than the original implant. A bit of a red flag if that was not explained to you. Please understand, I am not trying to hammer your trust in your surgeon. There are a lot of good surgeons, and you are on the right track with a second, and even third opinion. Can you see someone who teaches at the university? I just want the best for you.

Yes, a second opinion is always a good idea when dealing with anything major. And this certainly qualifies! Good health to you, CG!
I went on a lip product buying spree. I bought several of Bobbi Brown's new (some are re-issues, some new) "Crazy for Color" promo shades: Blush (love! My nude shade)and Pink Nectar (my bright shade). A big win-win. Also, Chantecaille Pink Melon gloss, which I love the consistency of, but not the lack of pigment. I got it from SpaceNK and I thought it had more color online! Another present for my girls to barter for.
And my new "I'm crazy about it" splurge was Julie Hewitt's mineral powder foundation, after seeing pics of it on models on her Instagram account. You could still see their skin and their cute freckles, but it looked so darned GOOD! She said her secret is to finish the skin off with a spritz of rose water. I'm a convert for the summer, at least.

You are an intelligent and thoughtful woman and so I'm sure you've been doing your research and that you'll get as many "second" opinions as necessary to feel assured that you are following the right course of action. Unfortunately, there are numerous reasons why a person might need a revision. Hopefully, your doctors will be able to zero in on the probable cause of the loosening and determine the best and least traumatic way of correcting it. You know that we're all rooting for you.

On to other things. . .The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale got started today for card holders so I went and stocked up on Antica Farmacista bath and body gels, body moisturizers, and reed diffusers. At 33% off, they were a great buy. I also stopped by the Chanel counter to swatch the new quads and came home with Tissé Camélia, Gabrielle, Vénitien, Vendôme, and and the Crayon Yeux in Marron Glacé. The new quads are absolutely stunning and the new formulation is a dream. None of the pictures I've seen online do these quads justice. There is a whole lot of shimmer going on, but it is more metallic than glittery. It's also very sophisticated and complex which really emphasizes the contours of the eyes. C'est incroyable! I can hardly wait to try my new pretties out. I think I'll follow Nemo's lead and try them out in alphabetical order :-)

Here's wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.

Oh Charlestongirl I can sure sympathize with you! I had over 22 surgeries performed in a little over 2 years and I thought I was as healed as I was going to get, considering. But no, I've been having alot of pain lately in a couple places and I was told more surgery was probably in my near future. I'm going to try and live with the pain as long as possible because honestly I do not want to go through anymore surgeries. I'm pretty much homebound, at only 49 yrs old, and the surgeries won't do much other than relieve my pain. So I understand how you're feeling. A second opinion is always wise and I'll be watching to see what you find out. Best of luck!
