The Friday Forum - July 1

It's hard to believe it's Friday already and the start of a long holiday weekend! As we roll into our Independence Day celebrations, I wish our friends to the north a Happy Canada Day! This one's exciting for them, with the royal visit by Wills and Kate (we're on a first-name basis).

What did you think of the lace or print dress Kate Middleton wore at the arrival ceremony yesterday? I don't think it translated well on television. It looked formal - almost like cocktail party wear. The navy blue suit she wore to board their flight at Heathrow Airport was classy. The dress was pretty - just not her best choice among recent home runs.

The daylilies are blooming, and all is well with the world. Well, sort of. It appears my computer didn't get the word. Today, I will be carrying it over to the "PC doctor" one last time. It's a tower, and it's fairly heavy. The doc will transfer my files to a new desktop computer, and later I'll pick up a newer, faster peripheral brain. I'm sure I'll appreciate that - after I get over the nuisance of reloading all my software. I don't even know what will work and what won't, given the new Windows operating system. I should have bought an Apple Mac, I know.

What an exciting week it was in the land of beauty! For me, it was a Chanel and Le Métier de Beauté week, with some new fragrances thrown into the mix to try this weekend. I was able to return to skin care too. Next week promises to be just as busy. I'll be writing this weekend. If you decamp for a vacation today, please visit when you return. You'll find some fun, new features.

Last Sunday, I watched a beauty blogger Twitter conversation about blog comments, mostly about snarky comments. Since I've never posted a Frequently Asked Questions section, I thought the Friday Forum would be a good opportunity to introduce the subject of comments. I let almost all comments stand - I love comments and a good chat - but there are certain kinds of comments I will delete or not approve on moderation.

As a rule, I don't publish comments that include hyperlinks to commercial Web sites, particularly those posted anonymously. The comments that never see the light of day here are those that are posted to older links, have absolutely nothing to do with the feature, but do contain some kind of advertising message, either embedded in the comment or in a link to a commercial Web site. They are a clear attempt to drive my readers to e-commerce sites. Whether the link is a hyperlink from the URL in the name or is embedded in the comment, I do not publish. Most recently, two comments praised the blog, but included links to a site that had nothing to do with beauty. Some of these links can even be dangerous to my readers. If you do comment on an older feature, and it's related to the feature - even if it contains a link that provides good information - I will publish it. Those looking for free advertising won't succeed.

It's time for The Friday Forum. We use the forum to share information and chat. Did you find any deals you couldn't resist this week? Are you using a fabulous product and want to sing its praises? Did you find a beauty product disappointing? Do you have a question others might be able to answer? Want to talk about skin care? What's new in your life? Just use the comments. Don't be shy. Just make sure to ask any question you might have over the weekend. By early the next week, most (not all) readers have moved on.

If you live in the U.S., don't forget to enter the giveaway contest for one of fall's hot nail colors: Chanel's Péridot Nail Colour (#531). The deadline is Saturday, July 2, at midnight.

The next time I write, I'll have a new computer...see you then!

Yay! You might be in the minority of Americans aware that it's Canada Day. Thanks for saying so! Re: the Royal visit...a poll was done across Canada to inquire about people's thoughts on the visit. Most Canadians are quite pleased or quite excited. In Quebec, most people are indifferent, with a small minority protesting the visit!

Canada Post is now running again, albeit at a very slow pace. Got only one little package this week, with my long-awaited Carner Barcelona fragrances. Love the soft woods of D600....still uncertain about the fuzzy little top of Tardes :-)

I also purchased a wonderful concealer, Cle de Peau. It was you, Charelstongirl, that recommended it ages ago. I'm so happy with it! Thank you!

We should all find a reason to celebrate Canada Day! Close neighbors, close friends.

That CdP concealer is a classic. Beloved by many, it looks great, concealing perfectly without looking cakey.

Hope you enjoy your holiday!

I'm heading out for a Dior makeover today with one of their national MUA's. Can't wait to post pictures!I think if they by some miracle still have Aurora in stock I'll ask him to build a look around it. Can you build a look around a bronzer? We'll see if he's got the chops!

I'm also IN LOVE with the Byzance de Chanel collection, particularly the lipstick and quad. MUST have the lipstick or I might. literally. die. Iridescent cherry red with a hint of sapphire??!!! OMG, it's like someone made it just for me! That it's in a beautiful formula and from my true love, Chanel, makes it even better!

Thank you so much for all the great reviews and wonderful pictures you've been putting up for us. They've really helped me weed out some wants from some needs from some "I guess I don't really want to deal with that after all's"

Have a wonderful weekend!

Shannon

I'm eagerly awaiting my purchases from Zuneta! Thanks to you I took the plunge and placed 2 orders. Bummer that I can't track the shipping since they're coming from the UK. Happy Canada Day and Happy 4th!

Thanks, Shannon!

I think the latest offerings from Chanel are must-haves. Hope you get that lipstick. None of us would want to see a makeup-induced death.

Have fun at Dior!

Hi MickiD!

I just got a Zuneta box. I'm over the moon at the moment. I envisioned a long, delivery-free weekend. Now I can dole the treats out to myself one by one. :)

I also got L'Artisan Verte Violette in the mail. I am intoxicated by the scent, comforting, familiar, a powdery floral I could live in.

The day has been pretty good so far, except that my computer isn't ready yet. Getting impatient. Feel like I need to be writing!

How long are you going to make us wait to hear what you got from Zunbeta? And how long did it take to get your order via US mail? I too got some gorgeous Chanel items. I got Epitant and Illusiore shadows and the Khaki Platine pencil. Love love them! So dreamy on, and talk about long lasting!

That wouldn't be any fun! I need to dole these beauties out to myself so that I have a treat each day this weekend.

I love the Chanel items you bought. Nice selections, MickiD!

First, to all our Canadian friends, Happy Canada Day! When I was in sixth grade I had a teacher, Mr. Berrington, who was from Canada. Although he taught us everything in the California curriculum (he was extremely competitive with the other sixth grade class next door), he also managed to teach us a tremendous amount about his beloved Canada. It was one of my most memorable school years. Later on, whenever I visiedt Canada, I would fondly remember Mr. Berrington and his Maple Leaf Forever.

I got a chuckle out of your computer adventures, Charlestongirl. Eventually we reach an age where visiting the doc to get a newer, faster peripheral brain takes on a whole new meaning! LOL

Another week of Chanel batting it out of the park. I'm still totally entranced by Topkapi and have been having a ball trying out various looks from subtle to over-the-top. This is a superlative palette. It truly is. I also picked up Prelude. I tracked it down at Neimans and after swatching it I immediately knew that it was an essential. The selection of neutrals are similar to Edward Bess' colors in that they are deceptively simple. Appearing basic in the pan, they are anything but when applied. They excel at adding depth and dimension to the eye. I know that I will be reaching for Prelude again and again to wear alone or as a base for other colors. Peter Philips is brilliant! And, if two Chanel quads in one week weren't enough,I'll be picking up a third: Rose Envolee. It was originally a Spring 2011 Japan exclusive. When I saw pictures of it on Sabrina's blog back in March, it was one of those eat your heart out feelings because I thought we'd never see it in the US. Well, Nordstrom is offering the collection for their anniversary sale, so I'm thrilled.

I hope everyone in the States has a wonderful Fourth of July!

Hi Eileen!

A trip to Nordstrom is on my to-do list for this weekend. I need to have a serious look at all the Anniversary photos and pre-order. Can't wait.

I am as excited about Chanel for fall as you and many others are. How will they top fall with upcoming seasons? I've seen photos through December. They are very nice, but it's going to be hard to sustain such magnificence.
