Guerlain Color Collection for Spring 2013

Guerlain's Cils d'Enfer Collection for Spring 2013 is a beauty. Just click on the display photo above to enlarge it and get a look at the new items. I'll be showing you all of the lip colors - lipsticks and glosses - the totally exquisite Météorites (which had not arrived last week, but should be along this week), and one of the two eyeshadow palettes. The new Maxi Lash Mascara looks promising, but I want to try it before I buy. It's available in Noir and Violet.

I've seen the collection at Neiman Marcus Mazza Gallerie, but I purchased most of my new treasures from my secret source: the Guerlain Boutique in Las Vegas. Beauty Advisor Rhonda Hethcoat at the boutique is fabulous. Give her a call at 702-732-7008 if any of the pieces interest you (and how could they not?).

I'll be back tonight after dinner with photos of the new Rouge Automatique lipsticks. They are stunning.

Update 12/18: It is unclear to me, after receiving Guerlain's press materials, whether the entire collection is entitled Cils d'Enfer, or it's just the mascara. I think it's just the mascara, so I have changed the title of this feature.

Yay! I've been waiting for this collection! It looks stunning! Is there a blush to go along with the collection? Can't wait to see photos! Thanks for all that you do!

Yum! I would like to announce to the world that the longest lasting eyeshadow is hands down Guerlain.

Hi Veronica,

The collection is extraordinary. Guerlain has become one of my must-have-nearly-everything brands over the last three years or so.

Wow, Nemo. That's true love.

There are a lot that last well on me, but I have no oil in my lids, and I use a primer.

This looks so pretty for spring- guerlain just launched their holiday collection where I live and I was simply put, horrified at the price of the meteorites compact- possibly the most expensive powder on the planet!
I did get the Pucci meteorites- would I need these- or do u think once u have one u are ok as there only slight nuances making them too similar to have more than one?

I use a primer, too, Cg--the CHANEL one. And I swipe some Burt's Bees toner across my lids before I use the primer. The toner is alcohol-free and removes excess oil. I've been doing this for years.

I would love to see the eye palette on te right, looks interesting, not like anything I have. Hope to hear more about it. Also are the meteorites really worth their sky high price?

Thanks for another wonderful post, CG! My must-have list always grows after reading them!

I was wondering if you happened to know how vivid the Maxi Lash in Violet might be. There are no photos on-line yet. Thanks!

I found the mascara in black at Sephora which I snapped up but I'm excited about those very pretty Meteorites! I'm curious too about a blush, I saw a very pretty promo photo. Leave it to Guerlain to get me excited about spring collections.

i saw chanel's spring collection at nordstom today. is it me or does the collection seem so-so especially when your paying that much money?! i know you gave it very good reviews but, i'm going to try for similar colors elsewhere. guerlain always is enticing and is special. worth the money to me. i'm also interested in the eye quad with the khaki and coral. i'm sure it's beautiful on. they are showing a blush online similar to the rouge g blush from 2 years ago but, the sales associate told me that's an asian exclusive only. thankyou for posting this!! excited to see your next reviews!! wendyxo. p.s. did you notice the prices for dior spring? is it $61 for a quint?! i do believe when eyeshadow is that high, i will look elsewhere (my opinion). :D

My charming Guerlain gal, Gisu, called me yesterday to say that she had just received the collection and that she'd put the Météorites aside for me since she knows I collect them. So, tomorrow I'll be stopping by the counter to play a bit before making my other selections. Although I already have both the Kiss Kiss glosses that are being repromoted with this collection, the Rouge Automatiques and the RA Shines look fabulous and irresistible. As for that purple quad, Attrape Cœur, that will definitely be going home with me. My dark green eyes are passionate about purple :-)

Hi Angusmum,

Ask any Guerlain devotée and they'll tell you that those little Météorites are sheer genius. It's a finishing powder and it works its magic by blurring imperfections with light diffusing pigments that add a radiance to the complexion. After applying makeup, lightly sweep on Météorites and see how lit-from-within your complexion looks. So, are they worth it? Yes! Just one caveat. When using Météorites, don't buff because that will ramp up the shine factor. Just use a large powder brush to lightly sweep or press the powder on face, neck, and décolleté for flawless looking skin.

Hi Wendy,

I felt the same about Chanel's spring. It just didn't inspire me the way Guerlain's has. The only item I purchased from Chanel was the beautiful highlighter because it is subtle and a good daytime choice. As for Chanel's summer, yikes! At 68, I don't think rainbows and unicorns will suit me. LOL I just don't foresee yellow mascara in my future :-P

Hi Makeupremastered,

I collect Météorites and think that there is, indeed, a difference in them. My complexion is fair with peach undertones. Although I don't wear MAC, I've been told that I'm an NC15. On my complexion, the Pucci give a soft beige glow, the Perles du Dragon give a light opalescent glow, last year's Vol de Nuit give a soft candlelight glow, etc. In addition to variance in tint, some editions have more shimmer than others. So, yes, they are different. Some will suit you better than others. Best advice, try your Pucci on one side of your face and the new ones on the other and see for yourself. Personally, I can not imagine wearing Pucci with the beautiful pink, berry, and violet shades in the spring collection, but the Pucci would look great with the coral and green shades that are also in the collection.

Apropos the Wu Long compact, you're paying a premium for the refillable compact. A refill for Wu Long isn't available yet, but the refill for the Voyage compact only costs $55 and the Météorites balls cost $58.

Is it me or does the new meteorites look similar to perles du dragon?

Looking forward to seeing the lipstick swatches!

Hi AZ,

The Perles du Paradis and Perles du Dragon are not alike although they are in the same general color family (pink/berry). I thought they were similar, too, until my Guerlain gal let me take a sneak peek at her tester last week. She had received the tester, but no product otherwise I would have bought them right then and there. The combination of colors being used in Paradis is a bit different and the effect is drop-dead gorgeous! The pink tint in Paradis is more pronounced than in Dragon and Paradis is also more sparkly. Paradis is meant to be used primarily as a body product---upper arms, shoulders, chest, etc. It can be worn on the face, but would function more as a highlighter rather than an all-over finishing powder like Dragon. The pearls in Paradis are much larger than normal and they come in a larger powder box with an actual puff. There is also more product than in the standard can of Météorites. I envision using them in much the same way I use my Chanel Rêverie---swept across my décolletage to enliven my skin with a soft shimmer, and for evening, ever so lightly swept across my cheekbones.

Hi Makeup Remastered,

Are you talking about the pressed compact? I agree. The price is crazy-high. That's another reason I love those little colored balls. :)

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Nemo,

The Burt's Bees is an unusual trick. What made you think to try that?

Charlestongirl said...

I bought that one, angusmum1. I hope to get photos tomorrow morning.

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Melanie,

I don't know yet. I suspect it will be perfectly compatible with the eye shadow palette that is predominantly lavender. Will let you know.

Charlestongirl said...

Evelyn,

I am fairly sure that there is no blush with this collection. Guerlain introduced so many pretty blush duos recently, it would be easy to skip the blush.

Charlestongirl said...

Wendy, I have all of Guerlain's spring collection photos, and there is no blush in them. That doesn't mean there isn't some Asia exclusive. I have wanted some of those from other brands in the past, but I just never feel like jumping through hoops to get them.

The beauty of the Chanel spring collection is on the face! It may not appeal to you at first glance, but it is subtly glorious.

Charlestongirl said...

Hey Eileen,

It's pretty, but I cannot wear those colors. I sprang for the green/peach one.

I really like Chanel spring. I agree with you, though, that the next collection coming along looks bizarre!

Many thanks to Eileen, when my life has felt like a fire drill, to fill in and answer questions!
