Jouer Essential Lip Enhancer

Jouer's Essential Lip Enhancer ($14) came to me as a result of a very hot UPS truck. It melted something I had ordered, and Jouer customer service sent me this Lip Enhancer as a gift along with my replacement product. That was great service!

Jouer's Essential Lip Enhancer is a nourishing and conditioning lip treatment with Jouer's clinically proven "Maxi-Lip" to naturally increase the fullness of your lips while decreasing fine lines. With its botanical ingredients, vitamin E, shea butter, and jojoba oil, this ultra-rich lip moisturizer protects the lips from environmentally damaging elements while hydrating and volumizing to provide lasting results. It's as simple - or as sophisticated - as that.

Jouer says it's sheer with a hint of pink. On my lips, it looks that way. On my arm, it's almost clear, with a white-leaning cast. It's the perfect size to throw in my pocket and use regularly throughout the day. Jouer recommends that you use it as a night treatment, but for or optimum results, apply it three times a day for 29 days. Why 20? Good question. Our skin cells turn over every 29 days or so. Perhaps that's the reason.

I was crazy enough to try to get a swatch photo in full sun. Can you see the clear gloss layered thickly on my arm? That's it. Look for treatment, not color, from Jouer's Lip  Enhancer.

You can find Jouer's beautiful products at the company's Web site and Henri Bendel (also Skin 6|2 in Las Vegas). Jouer also has an active presence on Facebook, so you may want to like their page to get all the news - and know when the next sale is announced.

Jouer Crème Eyeshadow Crayon in Rococo

Have you noticed I'm on a Jouer kick lately? I am for several reasons - only two of which are the Friends & Family Sale that lured me to order and how good most of my Jouer "blind buys" have turned out to be. One of the beauties I ordered was Jouer's Crème Eyeshadow Crayon in Rococo ($24). I'm a cream eye shadow addict, so it was a no-brainer to select Rococo. The shimmering French vanilla appeared to be a perfect shade for layering with other shades - cream or powder - and I can wear it alone as well.

Jouer Crème Eyeshadow Crayons are available in five pretty, wearable colors. Applying them is effortless. I apply them directly to my eyelid and then blend with my fingertip or a brush for a rich pearl finish.

The fast-drying formula  is designed to prevent creasing and fading. These pencils have a built-in sharpener, which is really nice for precise application. The Crème Eyeshadow Crayons are waterproof, crease-resistant (truth in advertising), and paraben-free.

I took swatch photos in full, morning sun, applying Rococo straight from the tube in only one layer on my arm. I didn't blend the color.

The color is ivory with a touch of gold. It's beautiful blended with other shades (use a darker one for definition) or all on its own to brighten and open the eyes. I think Rococo is a shade everyone can wear, regardless of skin tone.

Can you see how the color looks different in my two photos? It's the same swatch. I could see through my camera's display that the full sun was giving it remarkable platinum iridescence, so I turned away from the direct sun to get a better color representation.

I like the long wear of this cream eye shadow. It does not crease on me, but I always use a primer. I haven't tested it without. You can wear it as a primer or base coat with powder shadows, an extra-added benefit.

I'm still eying that 50% discount code I have for signing up for the Insider newsletter. In addition to what's already in my shopping cart, I must add another Crème Eyeshadow Crayon. I love this one. I think it's going to be Baroque, described as a shimmering soft gold - even though it looks bronze online. I'll bet the two shades will coordinate beautifully. I know they will blend seamlessly.

You can find Jouer's beautiful products at the company's Web site, select Nordstrom locations, and Henri Bendel (also Skin 6|2 in Las Vegas). Jouer also has an active presence on Facebook, so you may want to like their page to get all the news - and know when the next sale is announced. Make sure to sign up for that newsletter too. You may also get that 50% discount offer.

Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint

When I ordered from Jouer recently, the company sent me my choice of shade in Luminizing Moisture Tint ($38), a Best of Beauty Award Winner, selected by Allure in 2011. I was thrilled because I had wanted to try this lightweight moisturizing tint.

Said to even out imperfections and fade the appearance of fine lines with its light-diffusing multi-mineral formula, Luminizing Moisture Tint also delivers SPF 20 protection from UVA and UVB rays. Ginseng and gingko biloba leaf extract deliver antioxidants to the skin to promote a healthy complexion. This moisture tint is fragrance-free, oil-free, and advertised as perfect for all skin types.

It's available in a wide range of seven shades - from those that are perfect for fair skin like mine to deep bronze for tan or dark complexions. Jouer clearly realizes that we like options. When I read the descriptions, I realized that four might work for me. Limited to two samples, I selected Opal and Pearl.

Opal is described as a shimmering tint for porcelain to fair complexions. While I'm not porcelain, I am fair. It looked like it would work for me.

Pearl appeared to be perfect. Described as a shimmering tint for fair complexions, I knew it would work. You can see in these little blob photos from Jouer's Web site that Pearl appears to be a tad darker - definitely a better shade for summer.

I guessed correctly, although I have to admit that I really really want to try Blush and Golden too. I took swatch photos of Opal and Pearl in full, late-morning sunshine. I applied them with my fingertips and I did blend them into my skin a bit - not completely, but enough to see how they would look on my face. It's always a little risky to try to show such sheer, light tints in photos. Sorry about my little broken blood vessel. It will absorb soon enough.

I tried to blend the swatches evenly (i.e., the same amount of blending). Pearl is shown at the top of my arm, with Opal below. I hope you can see that Pearl is darker, and it carries a golden hue. Opal is the lightest - as advertised - and it has a definite yellow undertone.

Both shades add a beautiful dewy gleam to the skin. They leave behind a fair amount of moisture, but not so much that any foundation or other products you may apply over them will slide off. It was designed to be a primer. You can certainly wear Luminizing Moisture Tint without foundation if you want to have only light coverage, making this product a beautiful option for summer.

I have purchased many tinted moisturizers in the last few years, and Jouer's may be one of my top five. When I was at Jouer's Web site a few minutes ago, I received an offer to sign up to be an Insider, and I received a 50% off discount coupon moments later via e-mail. I will definitely be ordering Pearl, along with a few of Jouer's new Lip  Sheers - well, maybe all of them.

Jouer Tint in Honeysuckle - A New Shade

During Jouer's recent sale, I purchased a new shade of Tint: Honeysuckle ($20). How could I not with the name Honeysuckle? No matter that I've never seen honeysuckle in this sheer peach shade. I love the name because I love the sweetly fragranced plant.

Honeysuckle is definitely trendy for the spring/summer season. Peach is so "in." This peach is about as pure as it gets - pastel and pretty.

As named, it is a tint - for cheeks or lips. Had I applied it for a swatch photo by blending it with my skin, the photo would have have shown little of its native color - just a pretty peach glow. So, I applied it to my arm with my fingertip and did not blend it at all. It may look a little gloppy on my arm, but I assure you it blends easily and beautifully to become an extension of you, ready for summer. I took my swatch photos in full sun.

This peach is warm. I don't see a hint of pink in it. My cheeks and lips add a touch of peach, making the shade lovely on my skin. When your clothing calls for peach or coral (purple, for example), it's perfect. A very long time ago, I discussed with a makeup artist how bad pink or rose lip and cheek colors can look with rich purple, the color I was wearing that day. Although I knew that intuitively, I had never heard an artist express the need for brown or peachy shades to complement the deep amethyst tone.

This cream is very creamy, yet it sets perfectly to last on my cheeks all day. In the short time I've had it, I've grown fond of it and hope to purchase another of the 10 shades available. At times like this, I really wish Jouer had a physical presence in the DC area. I can imagine having a blast at the counter.

If you have any allergies, you can see the ingredients at the Jouer Web site. When you read them, you will see many hydrators. If your skin is dry, you'll appreciate the moisture boost.

You can find Jouer's beautiful products at the company's Web site and Henri Bendel (also Skin 6|2 in Las Vegas). Jouer also has an active presence on Facebook, so you may want to like their page to get all the news - and know when the next sale is announced.

Jouer Pearl Lip Enhancer in Rose

Jouer's Pearl Lip Enhancer ($16) is a nourishing and conditioning lip treatment with clinically-proven "Maxi Lip," which is designed to increase the fullness of the lips while decreasing fine lines. It offers a hint of pearly, shimmering color with each application. With its botanical ingredients, this ultra-rich lip moisturizer helps protect the lips from environmental damage. Plus it feels great on the lips.

I selected Rose, described as a shimmering rose peal, when I was shopping during Jouer's Friends & Family Sale. It's only available in three shades: rose, peach, and nude. The shade names are descriptive and definitely devoid of all of the descriptors we usually see, for example, "Beach-worthy Rose" or "Relentless Rose."

As you can see from the photos, it is packaged in a tube, which is perfect for this type of lip color - just like Tom Ford's Lip Lacquer. but a lot less expensive.

I was delighted when I tried Rose. I took swatch photos in full, late-afternoon sun, applying the color directly from the tube. I was instantly delighted with the shimmer and color. This lip color definitely shines with a pearlescent luster.

It has the same effect on the lips as the Pink Lust Lip Lacquer - a little frosty, but with plenty of color to make complement your lips.

I love the way it glows on my lips. It sings summer. As I look back on that 30% discount, I wish I had ordered all three shades.

You can find Jouer's lovely Pearl Lip Enhancers and all of their products at the company's Web site and Henri Bendel (also Skin 6|2 in Las Vegas). Jouer also has an active presence on Facebook, so you may want to like their page to get all the news.

Jouer Crème Eyeshadow - Organza for Taupe Lovers

If you saw this photo, would you think that Jouer's Crème Eyeshadow in Organza ($20) leans lavender? I would. Then, after reading its description, "shimmering lavender taupe," I'd be sure of it. I don't go out of my way to order lavender eye shadows, even though I love cream shadows. Why then did I order it? Honestly, I have no idea. It was months ago, and I was desperate to add another one of these beauties from Jouer to my makeup wardrobe. I had Cashmere, which is gorgeous, and I wanted to try a lighter shade.

Imagine my delight when it arrived. I saw lots of shimmering taupe, and almost no lavender. Even before trying it, I know I was going to love Organza.

Lightweight in texture with a velvety finish, Jouer's Crème Eyeshadows offer a subtle shimmer. They can be worn alone as a shadow, layered to illuminate the eye, or smudged along the lash line to create natural definition. The soft, exquisitely blendable formula ensures easy fingertip application if you wish, but out of habit, I use a cream shadow brush to apply my mine.

I took swatch photos in full, mid-day sun because I wanted to show you the glory of Organza. I did use my finger to swatch. I was being lazy and didn't want to go back inside and up the stairs to get a cream shadow brush. Fingertip application works well.

Organza is a drop-dead gorgeous taupe. I suppose one could stretch and see some lavender in it, but it doesn't produce the eye-reddening that lavender does on me. I love everything about this shade: the color, the soft shimmer, and the wear time. It stays on. Remember, I use an eye primer below my eye makeup.

I positioned myself in front of a pink azalea, trying to see if I could make the shade look lavender. I think the photo directly above shows its taupe deliciousness even more - despite the sun drop-off on the left.

Do you see lavender, taupe, or a mix of both? By any chance, do you have Organza? How does it look on your skin? I'm thrilled to show you another not-new product you may have missed.

I don't write about Jouer often because we don't have a Jouer counter in the DC area. It's sad. I discovered the brand online and was delighted to visit the counter at Henri Bendel the last time I visited New York. I hope to go back to explore more of the line in person. In the meantime, I shop online. Now and then, there's a site-wide discount, and I love those opportunities.

You can purchase Jouer's lovely cream shadows and all of their products at the company's Web site and Henri Bendel (also Skin 6|2 in Las Vegas).

Update 3:11 pm: I just saw this. Enjoy 30% off during Jouer's Friends & Family Sale using promo code: FRIENDS&FAMILY! Hurry, the sale ends TODAY at 8:00 pm PST.

Jouer Battle of the Coasts: Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Malibu and Hamptons

Last month, Jouer Cosmetics had a "Battle of the Coasts" on Facebook. If you voted for your favorite Moisturizing Lip Gloss shade, Malibu or Hamptoms, you would receive a special promotion code for your next purchase online.

The winner was Malibu, and now that I have purchased both shades, I'm not sure why. I'm sure it looked appealing in the tube, with its gorgeous fuchsia pop. Unfortunately, that fuchsia pop turns into an almost clear ho-hum pink on the lips.

Jouer's irresistibly sheer shades (marketing blurb - read the word "sheer" literally here) are loaded with vitamins A, C, and E; shea butter; jojoba oil; and pomegranate seed oil to moisturize, soothe, nourish, rejuvenate, and protect for smooth and hydrated lips. They do feel great on my lips.

Jouer Lip Glosses are available in a the Jouer signature vial that connects to any Jouer custom palette. I don't connect them to anything, so I'd appreciate a slightly longer top, but that's a small detail. The colors are beautiful.

Jouer had a 24-hour flash sale after the Battle of the Coasts and offered the winner, Malibu, at a 40% discount. It was time for me to see both finalists in person.

Sorry about my shadow in the photo above. I didn't see it when I was taking this photo. As you can see, Malibu is shown left, with Hamptons at right.

Malibu suffers from the sheer disappearing act. It looks vibrant in the tube (like some Chanel glosses) and sheer and almost colorless on the lips. I was disappointed in it. Sheer is one thing; almost clear is another. Fortunately, Hamptons has some color - not a lot, but enough for my satisfaction index.

Malibu is shown at the top of my arm. As you can see, it's light, baby pink. It looks almost clear on the lips. Hamptons offers the continuingly popular pop of tangerine. I like it. Applied over pink lips, it moderates a bit in color and offers a warm tone. Both are shiny.

What do you want to bet that Facebook voters selected Malibu based on its appearance in the tube?  Remember when I showed you the Creamsikle-colored Wind last month? It provides more color than either one of these shades.

You can purchase Jouer Moisturizing Lip Glosses at at the Jouer Web site, where I purchased these two, or at Nordstrom, where I have purchased Jouer in the past. The line is also available at Henri Bendel.

Totally unrelated: I have to tell someone how thrilled I am that DC's female panda, Mei Xiang, gave birth to a cub over the weekend. I tried watching the pandacam, but she's cuddling the little guy too close, taking great care of him, the National Zoo reports. Yippee!

Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Wind

The Jouer Lip Glosses ($20) caught my eye recently - at Nordstrom and at Jouer's own Web site. I've got a few to show you, including today's feature, Wind. Wind is new to me, but not one of the new shades of Moisturizing Lip Gloss.

Jouer's irresistibly sheer shades are loaded with vitamins A, C, and E; shea butter; jojoba oil; and pomegranate seed oil to moisturize, soothe, nourish, rejuvenate, and protect for smooth and hydrated lips.

Jouer Lip Glosses are available in a the Jouer signature vial that connects to any Jouer custom palette. I don't connect them to anything, so I'd appreciate a slightly longer top, but that's a small detail. The colors are beautiful.

Wind reminds me of a Creamsicle. It's soft, juicy, and almost the same pastel orange. It's somewhat like a liquid lipstick if it gets hot. I'll warn you: It will melt if exposed to heat - just like a Creamsicle. Open it and the color will pour out. [Note: I've never had that happen with a lip gloss, and I'm wondering if I received a defective one. I've used Jouer glosses before and found them to be high-quality.]

Isn't this color luscious? It's applied heavily on my arm to show the color well. One swipe, and it's much more sheer. Build the color, and this is what you get - an ever-so-slightly shiny pastel that screams summer. That's one reason I wanted to show you the color now.

You can purchase Jouer Moisturizing Lip Glosses at Nordstrom, where I purchased mine, or at the Jouer Web site, where Malibu won a recent face-off with the Hamptons. I'll show you those colors soon.

Jouer Hydrating Lipstick in Nicole

Sometimes you just know from an online swatch that you're going to love a lipstick. So it was with Jouer's Hydrating Lipstick ($22) in Nicole. Jouer helped me know I'd love it because of its wonderful Web site. When you click on a swatch, a photo of the lipstick itself pops up - tremendously helpful for an online shopper. I went from the photo below right to the one above left with one click. What a nice feature! I used the swatch to zero in on "my kind of shade," then clicked on it to see more.

Nicole is described as a shimmering, bronzed pink. Brown/pink hybrids almost always please me. I'm sure that's why my eyes zeroed in on Nicole. I wanted several of the available shades, but decided to exercise some restraint when I ordered, knowing I could go back later for more.

I did everything but cartwheels this week to try to get photos of Nicole, which I've had for about a month. One day, the clouds parted, and we had spotty sunshine for an hour late in the day. I dashed outside and was able to get a few photos before the clouds filled in again. It was challenging, dashing from spot to spot, waiting for the sun to peek out from behind huge cumulus clouds.

Here is the lovely Nicole in the tube. Just as described, it appears to be rose with a touch of brown. It's only when I apply it on my lips that I realize it's so much more complex than that simple description. It shimmers with a warm rose that has just a touch of peach in it - not enough that I might call it peachy pink or peachy rose, but enough to warm it on my lips.

My swatch photos don't do justice to the lovely shade. I can't put my finger on the reason. The swatches portray the way Nicole looks on my arm. Factor in your own lip color, and a shade with a touch more pink or rose will likely appear.

This shade almost dances on my lips. It's got life - a liveliness that sticks around for a very reasonable amount of time for a hydrating lipstick. It doesn't slide off my lips during the first few minutes of speech. It offers medium-to-full-intensity coverage. I hesitate to call it full coverage, which can sound dull. Nicole is certainly not dull!

Jouer describes Hydrating Lipstick as having a sensationally smooth, soft finish and the powerful moisturizing properties of Brazil’s cupuaçu butter that will keep our lips protected and nourished with enduring beautiful coverage. A perfect balance of beauty and treatment.

That's an understated description, characteristic of Jouer. Hydrating Lipstick is that and more. Select a shade that suits your fancy, and I'll bet you'll find yourself smiling for the mirror after you apply it.

You can purchase Jouer's Hydrating Lipstick and all of the company's products at the Web site and Henri Bendel (also Skin 6|2 in Las Vegas). Jouer's Luminizing Moisture Tint, which some of you recommended last month, recently won an Allure Best of Beauty 2011 Award. I need to try it!

Jouer Crème Eyeshadow - Cashmere for Taupe Lovers

I ordered one of Jouer's Crème Eyeshadows ($20) recently. Every time I see a cream shadow I haven't tried, I order at least one. I love cream eye shadows; I like their look, feel, application, and wear.

I saw that Jouer offered four shades: Chiffon, Feather, Cashmere, and Organza. I nearly ordered Chiffon. Then I decided it was too predictable (for me), and I needed to branch out of my comfort zone. I ordered Cashmere, which wasn't a huge leap since it's described as a shimmering taupe. Taupe and I go together like best buddies. You can probably imagine my delight when it arrived, particularly if you've used Jouer Cosmetics.

Lightweight in texture with a velvety finish, Jouer's Crème Eyeshadows offer a subtle shimmer. They can be worn alone as a shadow, layered to illuminate the eye, or smudged along the lash line to create natural definition. The soft, exquisitely blendable formula ensures easy fingertip application if you wish, but I use a cream shadow brush to apply my new treasure.

The Cashmere shade is fascinating. It's definitely taupe, with a gleaming, subtle shimmer, but it's almost two shades in one, depending on whether I apply it lightly or heavily. I took two photos of the compact, one in indirect light and one with the pan held toward the elusive sun. The sun has only made rare appearances here this week, and I scramble for photos when it shines.

I painted on Cashmere with a cream shadow brush for the swatch photo above, which was taken in bright light, but not 100% full sun. I got a nice color rendition, but realized I needed a swatch photo of the "light version." So I quickly wiped off the heavy swatch and dashed outside for a photo of a light application. With a light touch, Cashmere is like an antique gold with a touch of taupe. As you build the coverage, it becomes more and more taupe. This feature delights me! The light application is shown at right.

Here's one more photo of the heavy application at left. Basically, I feel like I got two gorgeous cream shadows for $20, the price of one. Now I'm annoyed with myself for not purchasing all four shades when the discount event was underway. I want the other three.

I know that some women have a difficult relationship with cream eye shadows. They may not be the best option for those with oily skin and especially oily eyelids. For me, with my dry skin, they are a fabulous option. They add a gleam that my eyelids don't have naturally. I think they draw attention to my eyes, which are my best feature. So far, I've experienced great wear with Jouer Crème Eyeshadow. It stays where I put it and doesn't fade or migrate into the crease. I do wear a primer.

You can purchase Jouer's lovely cream shadows and all of their products at the company's Web site and Henri Bendel (also Skin 6|2 in Las Vegas). Jouer's Luminizing Moisture Tint, which some of you recommended last week, recently won an Allure Best of Beauty 2011 Award. Maybe I'll break down and order that and more eye shadow. I'm weak when it comes to lust-worthy makeup.

Jouer Highlighter in Tiare

I'm sure you know the feeling. You're browsing online at a site like Jouer Cosmetics, and you spot a product type you can't resist. There are three shades available. You don't know which one to order, so you select one randomly. That's how I chose Tiare Highlighter ($20) at Jouer Cosmetics. I could just have easily selected one - or two - of the other shades, and I now think I need them too.

My choice, Tiare, is described as a shimmering gold. That's a simple, but perfectly accurate description. I'm sure I could wear the other two shades. Camellia is a shimmering pearl white (shown above), and Champagne is a shimmering pink. The three available shades are designed to complement all skin tones.

These lightweight cream highlighters instantly illuminate cheekbones, eyes, and décolleté, providing a stunning luminescence with a sheer, sheen finish. It gleams, not shines, for a sophisticated look.
Our sunlight had disappeared for the day, and by the time I got out to get a swatch photo or two, it was pretty dark. I'm sorry my photos are dark. I applied the highlighter with a cream shadow brush in a fairly large area to show you the Tiare shade.

I used the rose as a backdrop for one of the photos to show you that the color isn't pink. Against my skin in the second photo at left, the shade "leans" rose. It shows as a more golden shade in the last swatch photo here.

I try not to get hung up on shade descriptions because skin tone makes a huge difference. What might look one color on me may look another on you. I would describe Tiare as a gold with just a tiny hint of rose in it on my skin (which has pink undertones) in certain lighting. How's that for hedging? It's definitely not rose gold, though, and I don't want to mislead you.

One adjective I will use in describing it is gorgeous. The color gleams, and it adds a polished look on the high points of my face - the perfect highlighter.

The small compact is designed to connect to any Jouer custom palette. I like to store my products individually, and this one went straight to my bathroom. Now I'm waiting for another online special. I want the other two!

Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss: Breeze and Rose Glisten

I don't write about Jouer often because we don't have a Jouer counter in the DC area. It's sad. I discovered the brand online and was delighted to visit the counter at Henri Bendel the last time I visited New York. I hope to go back soon.

In the meantime, I've been shopping online. Last week, I took advantage of a site-wide discount and ordered some nice new makeup. I had never tried the Moisturizing Lip Gloss ($20), so two went into my shopping cart.

These lip glosses are irresistibly sheer shades loaded with vitamins A, C, and E, shea butter, jojoba oil, and pomegranate seed oil to moisturize, soothe, nourish, rejuvenate, and protect your lips. There's no question Jouer's glosses will keep your lips smooth and hydrated. It took me one day to figure that out.

Available in Jouer's signature vial that connects to any Jouer custom palette, the glosses are perfectly useable on their own. I purchased Breeze and the limited edition Rose Glisten (shown in Jouer's photo at left and mine above right).

Breeze is described as a sheer berry with gold shimmer. It's shown in the tube in my photo above on the left side. Rose Glisten (shown at right above) is described as a sheer sparkling rose. I purposely selected two shades that showed me some color online. Neither is particularly pigmented - my only disappointment. These glosses feel fabulous on my lips and stay put a reasonable amount of time for a lip gloss - without feeling at all heavy or sticky.

Here are two swatch photos, both taken in full sun. Breeze is shown at the top of my arm, and Rose Glisten is shown below. Remember to simply click on the photos if you want to see an enlarged view. Breeze is definitely the darker of the two shades, so it's my favorite. Rose Glisten is very, very light. It reminds me of Bobbi Brown's new Pink Tulle High Shimmer Lip Gloss. It's a pretty topper and will add a baby pink shine to your lipstick. It can be used as a lip conditioner if you want a little natural color.

There are 23 shades of Moisturizing Lip Gloss. I do want more of them, so next time I will order the darkest shades available. You can find the colors at the Jouer Web site. Mirage looks like it's calling my name.
