My New Secret Styler: Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo

What do you do when you don't have time to wash your hair, but want to look "presentable" or even "great" that day? The answer is, "Reach for Suave Professionals' new Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo (about $4.50).

Dry Shampoo can put the volume back into your hair style by giving the roots a lift - literally. Suave's new Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo, formulated with KERALOCK technology (Keratin is a natural protein found in healthy hair), absorbs oils to help clean your hair so it's refreshed, smooth, manageable, and bouncy between regular washes.

I know it's bad for my dry hair to wash it every day, but unless I do, I'm faced with frumpy, straight hair with no volume. It's not a pretty sight. Straight was OK in the 60's when long, straight, blonde hair was "in," but today, at bob length, it looks dreadful. Trust me.

I was delighted when Suave sent me a can of Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo to try. Those of you who have been with Best in Beauty since the get-go may remember the disastrous day in 2009 when a stylist saved me with a can of dry shampoo. I had used a "shine" product that left me a grease slick, and I had no time to fix it. If you didn't read that post, you can find it at this link. That was the day I learned that dry shampoos could be your friend. They have come a long way from their powdery predecessors.

Not too long ago, Brandon Martinez showed me how he uses dry shampoo as a styling aid - even on clean hair. I marveled at the volume it adds, better than any other product I have tried. Since I've been a Suave groopie for quite awhile, I jumped at the chance to try the company's new Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo, which held the promise of the best of dry shampoos with the extra-added benefit of Keratin to keep my hair from frizzing on a rainy day like today.

There sat the can in my bedroom, waiting for the perfect test. Today, it got it. I didn't know I would need to wash my hair this morning, assuming this would be a house cleaning day, and I'd be inside getting even shabbier than usual. Unfortunately, this morning a piece of bonding broke off one of my chewing teeth, leaving a very sharp edge, where my tongue parked in a masochistic desire to hurt itself.

I wanted to visit a dentist - today! My regular dentist is off all week, and her office is closed, so I used a trusted "best dentists" list, found one nearby who had an open appointment (perhaps a cancellation?) this morning, and off I went to tidy up my appearance and get dressed. I don't know how you might have felt, but I couldn't leave the house looking as bad as I did.

I reached for my can of Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo, which I had had at the ready for such an event (the ultimate test). I held up my hair sections to expose the roots, and I sprayed about six short times, ensuring adequate coverage on the top, sides, and back. Then I went to work with my hot-air styling brush, putting the bob back into my bob. In less than five minutes, I had volume and waves - all where they were supposed to be! Even though I had not sprayed the ends, they behaved. It was amazing! I gave my restyled hair a short burst with my Suave hair spray, and off I went, feeling confident because my hair looked good. Incidentally, he was a very gentle, careful, and nice dentist, and I'd go back in a heartbeat.

You can use Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo instead of shampooing and restyling, or you can use it as a styling product to add volume. Not only does it absorb oil when you use it, it will continue to absorb oil throughout the day, letting you exit the day with the volume you had achieved in the morning. As I write, many hours after I applied it, my hair still has mega-volume, and I've been running around in the rain. That's a miracle. Seriously, for $4.50, you can have a secret styling weapon too. I have fine, naturally straight, blonde hair, which has no natural volume - none. A product that can do what this one did is heaven-sent.

Suave's new dry shampoo has a light scent that's actually nice. It disappeared entirely after about 30 minutes. Normally, I prefer my hair products to be unscented, but this one had such a pretty, clean, fresh scent, I could have lived with it all day, given the fabulous effects it provided. I can't put my finger on the notes, but I'd say it's citrus fresh.

I buy my favorite Suave Professionals hair spray online in bulk (I think it has been replaced with a new one), so I'll be adding this new dry shampoo to my order list in the future. I've found another keeper! You can purchase Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion products at drugstores, mass market retailers, Amazon, and drugstore.com - actually many sources, making Suave Professionals hair products easy to find and a great value. Suave has a Facebook page you should check out to learn more.

Update 12/30: This wonderful dry shampoo is not yet available at all retailers, but should be in the January-February time frame.

I'm going to have to keep an eye out for this as my hair gets oily even after 1 day. Plus anything that can give volume to my fine hair (which goes flat the moment I walk out the door) is tops on my list to buy. I had tried the Oscar Blandi dry shampoo but it makes me feel itchy. lol

My hair is SO thin it's easy to find time to wash it since I do so only twice per week....BUT, how fabulously ironic that you reviewed this today. I've been looking for a dry shampoo to use on others and have only found TresAimmer or however it's spelled. Anyway, I'll have to see if I can find this at WalMart or something. The price is excellent, compared to the $7 for the Tres :-)

Hi Evelyn!

Itchy from OB? Yuk! Try this one from Suave - I love it.

Definitely, Lovethescents, see if you can find it online before you set off for a store. So little time...

I think drugstore.com has it, but come to think of it, I don't know if they ship to Canada.

Oooooo!! I'll have to run out and grab a can. I have tried many a dry shampoo. (Bumble & Bumble, Tresemme, Batiste, Oscar Blandi, etc.) They either "gunked up" my scalp, were difficult to use, smelled bad or gave me that white powdery look in my brunette locks. I tried Suave's "other" dry shampoo. Silver can/yellow lid and I really liked it. Smelled great, invisible spray that blended in & gave me volume without all that buildup. I actually stocked up with 3 cans. But now I'll definitely have to try this "Keratin" one. Thanks for the heads up on this winner!!

Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to check this out the next time I'm at the drugstore.

Yep, Soni, some of them are pitiful - for one reason or another. I am amazed by Suave's new one. I need to figure out which one of my local stores has it.

Did I miss the name of your favorite hair spray? I'm always looking for a more economical alternative to my Sebastian Shaper Plus. Please share!

Jo, I didn't name it because it has been discontinued. Suave Professionals Weather 365. I last found it on Amazon and bought five.

Charleston girl, I had a similar experience with a bonded tooth. My dentist had recommended for a long time that I use a mouth guard. Finally I took his advice and got one and I would not be without one. I wear it at night and during my gym workouts. It was cheap, like $50. Ask your dentist about one.

Charlestongirl said...

Oh Nemo, I don't need a night guard, thanks. Long story, but that tooth will be protected and back to normal soon. It's unfortunate that a single issue that's under A long-duration treatment can cause another one. It's all connected, right?

I love dry shampoo! I'm currently using Oscar Blandi dry shampoo which I love, but when I run out of it I can only buy it at Sephora. I tried Tresemme fresh start dry shampoo. Don't waste your money this product it's crap in a can. It made my fine hair chalky/gross and I ended being late for work as I had to wash it out. Horrid, horrid product.
I'm going to have to check out WalMart and see if we have the Suave one here in Canada.

Charlestongirl you should do a best and worst products used in 2011.

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Northerngirl!

That Tresemme products sounds nasty. Isn't it expensive too?

Northerngirl said...

I didn't pay a lot for it. If I recall it was only 6.00 (not bad). I've paid a much, much more for terrible products.

I have tried this product before, and it worked ok, but not as well as my rene furterer dry shampoo. Also, I though I was saving money by buying the Suave version, but one can only lasted a few spritzes. The next time I tried to use it, it would not dispense any product. I made sure the nozzle was not clogged, but it still would not dispense. I thought I had a defective bottle and bought another one and had the exact same problem. So for me, it is worth it to buy the rene furterer dry shampoo as it lasts much longer and works much better for me.

You are a brave woman, Gossip Girl!

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Laurie!

I hope you can find it. I just noticed on the PR sheet that it might not arrive at all stores until January or February.

Fgirl, sounds like you got a defective unit. Those things can happen with any brand. I would have returned it for an exchange. Anyhow, glad you found something you like!
