Bobbi Brown Eye Couture Palette Eye Shadows

Just look at this logo on the Bobbi Brown Eye Couture Eye Shadow Palette! I think the gold on black is elegant. What's inside is even more exciting. Like jewel tones? Like Bobbi Brown makeup brushes? Bobbi Brown's Eye Couture Palette ($220), a Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman exclusive, arrived at the Neiman Marcus at Mazza Gallerie yesterday. They received six and are hoping for more. Lovely Rachel set mine aside for me and called me right away.

The eye shadows are stunning. When I got home yesterday with the palette, I was so excited. I wanted to share swatches with you immediately. I had a problem, though, as you read: no phone, no computer line. After hours of so-called diagnosis and negotiation of a repair date with Verizon, I was no closer to sharing my photos. This morning, I invoked the ultimate complaint mechanism, and within hours, I had my services back. A pro named Mark fixed my line in a heartbeat. It turns out that the outdoor jack in the junction box had corroded. Mark, I love you! You restored my faith in my old client.

Back to Bobbi and these groundbreaking eye shadows. All photos were taken in full sun, which is the reason you'll see clouds reflected in the logo if you look hard. Let's see if I can find enough superlatives to use as I describe the shadows.

I will start with the top row. My first photo shows the "bookends," the black (Onyx Sparkle Eye Shadow) and white (Star Sparkle Eye Shadow) shades at top left and top right in the palette. When I describe position, I am referencing my photo of the open palette above.

Between these shades are Diamond Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow and Peacock Metallic Eye Shadow. These are shown on my arm at left. The Diamond shade has more white pigment than Star, as you can see in my photos. Star is almost clear on my skin, with a lot of sparkle. Peacock is a very colorful turquoise green. What you see in the palette photo is what you get on the skin.

The middle row has four gorgeous shades. Starting at the top of my photo at right are Amethyst Metallic Eye Shadow, Emerald Sparkle Eye Shadow, Bonfire Metallic Eye Shadow, and Topaz Metallic Eye Shadow. Emerald may be a bit misnamed, given the pastel nature of the shade, but it's beautiful, so that's a nit. Bonfire and Topaz made my heart flutter. I love nude and gold shadows, and these two are stunning.

With the exception of the Onyx (black shade), the bottom row of the compact holds the most intense shades. As you can see on my photo at left, the shades are bold and saturated. This isn't due to variability of application. I used sponge-tip applicators to apply all of the shades, and swiped twice with most of them. I'll explain the exception below.

Above left, top to bottom, are Bash Metallic Eye Shadow, Volcano Sparkle Eye Shadow, Lapis Sparkle Eye Shadow, and Garnet Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow. Again, stunning! It took only one quick swipe to apply Garnet with the intensity you see here. It's a bold shade. Bask is the one I would have named Emerald - if I wanted to make a comparison to the gem. I will probably wear Volcano down to the bottom of the pan. The greige shade is superb.

Did I mention the brushes? Not an afterthought, these brushes were selected to make it easy to use the palette, and they certainly contribute to the price. They will be with me for many years, though, so I'm a happy customer.

If you have a Neiman Marcus or Bergdorf Goodman near you - and you want this set - I'd suggest you call to see if it has arrived and/or get on the waiting list. If you don't have a store nearby, but would like to order the Eye Couture Collection, you can give Rachel Lagman, Bobbi Brown Product Specialist, at Neiman Marcus a call at (202) 966-9700, ext 2265. She will take good care of you. I'm sure she will locate one for you if the six she received have been sold.

Sometimes, Bobbi Brown collections that are exclusive to department stores eventually land on Bobbi's own Web site. I don't know what will happen with this one. I just know it's going to sell out in the stores. Instinct!

Update: I forgot to tell you that these shadows will be long-lasting. They don't wipe off easily with a tissue.

The BB palette is TRULY lovely, but too much sparkle for me.

I bought several items from the MAC Russian Blue (cat) collection today and am anxious to try them tomorrow.

Thanks for the serum info - - I'm in such a tither about serums - - way too much seemingly good stuff out there - - HOW DOES ONE DECIDE????

Happy weekend; really frustrating, isn't it, to be without the basic utilities?!

Hi Leigh,

They are shimmering or sparkling! I wear all that glimmer on my lower eye lid (of of the top two), and it works for me, I can't take it into the crease.

I ordered some items from MAC's Fabulous Felines. I guess they will arrive next week since they didn't yesterday.

Think of yNs Radiance as a gel-cream, so you can use it as a moisturizer w/o serum if you want. I just like to layer my products to make my own skin cocktail. :)

I felt so out of touch the minute I lost my I-connection. I would have been postal if I hadn't had my iPad. :)

Like Leigh, I find this beautiful couture palette too shimmery for me! But I know a 25 years one who will love it, it will make a gorgeous Xmas present:-)

It is very shimmery, and every color isn't going to work for me. Remember, though, that my sun photos add a lot of shine.

I actually love shimmer on my lower lid. The Bonfire Metallic Eye Shadow, Topaz Metallic Eye Shadow, and Volcano Sparkle Eye Shadow are drop-dead gorgeous on my eyelids. I haven't had time to try them all. I doubt if I will be wearing the black and garnet shades.

What's so cool about some of Bobbi's new introductions, as Gaia said at The Non-Blonde, is that they are so "un-Bobbi." Even though there are existing shades in the palette, grouped they appear groundbreaking.

Clarisse, it will be a VERY nice gift!

Heavens! I see what you mean...I had overlooked the price, just reading what you said about the colors..
nevermind, by Xmas I'll have got all my Chantecaille and Shiseido and Burburry make-up and won't need anything more (hope, hope..)
By the way I've seen yesterday that Burburry make-up will be sold exclusively in Paris at Les Galeries Lafayette (ah! my khaki eye-shadow!)

Just gorgeous but unfortunately too many shimmery shadows for me to pay that much money.

The MAC Aristocat lipstick is my new fave - - a lovely pearl which I sought since I'm unable to get the new YSL pearl locally.

And, I'd love you to show us your "sparkly" lid color; maybe it'll inspire me to try it.

Have a great week! SEPTEMBER ALREADY??!!

I'm speechless - these shadows are so gorgeous! I love how Bobbi did a combo of metallic, shimmer, etc. I have no words, just beautiful! :-)

This palette was made for you, Bonnie! Hint hint to Mom; maybe she can snag one for Christmas?

I live in Manhattan and although there are no Neiman Marcus stores in the city, there is a fabulous Bergdorfs, one floor devoted to ONLY make up. I have to bring smelling salts with me when I go there for fear of being overwhelmed with all the beauty and passing out. I've been waiting for this palette to come out since I first heard the buzz about it. When I first laid eyes on it in Bergdorf's previews, my heart nearly stopped. I had to remind myself to breathe. This palette is truly absolutely gorgeous. Although it might look somewhat sparkly in pictures, in reality, the sparkles are incredibly subtle. It's just enough to light up your face. And when you apply the eyeshadows, you don't get the sparkly fallout all over your face that you might experience from other brands of make up. I wish these beauty lines would let us know a year in advance what they plan on releasing the following year so we may allocate our money to save up for these gorgeous must have palettes. I'd gladly give up a month or two of meals for this Bobbi Brown Palette. In reality, when you add up all the make up and make up brushes you get with this palette, $220 is not unreasonable. However, especially in these difficult financial times, spending $220 for one palette does seem like a lot of money. Regardless, I agree that these palettes will sell out quickly because they are incredibly lovely. This palette is by far one of the most beautiful palettes I have ever seen by any make up company. Bobbi has really outdone herself. If I can somehow manage to win the lottery in the next week or so, this will be #1 on my list. I particularly love the greens. I'm a red head, green eyes and very fair skin but I can see myself wearing comfortably all the colors in this palette maybe with the exception of the black color. The gold and tan colors, neutrals, are especially gorgeous and neutrals are generally not my favorites but these are outstanding. If you are a Bobbi fan and you can somehow afford to swing the cash for this palette, BUY it. If you don't, I can guarantee you will regret it when they're all gone.
