Chanel Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimer in Allégorie from the Éclats du Soir de Chanel Holiday 2012

Chanel's limited-edition Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimer in Allégorie ($29.50) from the Chanel Éclats du Soir de Chanel Holiday 2012 Collection is a bit of a disappointment. So are my photos. In desperation (no sun for more days than I can count), I took photos under cloudy skies today. I figured that nearly clear lip gloss wouldn't look much different in sun vs. shade.

I knew when I was purchasing it that it would be nearly clear - useful only to top lipstick and add remarkable shine - but I bought it anyhow. Chanel calls it sheer, shimmering pink, which is accurate. While the display shows three lip glosses, Allégorie is the only one that's a limited edition. The other two, Mystery and Intrigue, had not arrived. Both appear to be gorgeous.

Here is Allégorie on my arm. I applied it heavily, and my photos was taken under cloudy skies. As you can see, the extremely light pink color is punctuated by a glittering finish. It dazzles and will top lipsticks beautifully.  Wear it alone, and about all you'll achieve is a sparkling smile.

Sorry about the little bruise that keeps marring my photos. I took off the Band-Aid I was wearing yesterday and forgot to replace it. Somehow, I've got to get rid of that baby. Fortunately, I see my dermatologist every three months. If I recall correctly, there's something he can do about those little semi-permanent bruises. Wow, am I off-topic!

My problem is how little comes to mind when I play with Allégorie. Unless you need a very light pink, beautifully sparking lip gloss, you'd be wise to spend your money on Star Dust Powder Blush or the new Harmonie du Soir Quadra Eye Shadow. There are some game changers in Chanel's Éclats du Soir de Chanel Holiday 2012 Collection. Sadly, Allégorie isn't one of them.

P.S. Because the work week will probably bring sunshine, I may have to take swatch photos at work outside the building. That's always a hoot.

When was Mystery from? I don't remember it.

Don't be self conscious about your bruise. It is part of your natural beauty. Love your reviews & appreciate them

Hi Anonymous,

I believe the Chanel SA who told me that was incorrect. Mystery is new, but not limited.

Take care of yourself, CG. As a caretaker, you have to be especially careful to stay on top of your own medical issues! (on another note, my husband, who was diagnosed with Melanoma this summer - it was caught early and they believe they got it all - just had 2 more pre-melanomas removed yesterday. I think this is what life will look like from now on. Sunscreen!! Wear sunscreen! <3 )
