Tom Ford Beauty Lip Color Shine in Insidious

Early in February, I purchased three of Tom Ford's new Lip Color Shines ($48) from Bergdorf Goodman. The collection has 10 shades, and I purchased Quiver, Nubile, and Frolic in late January. They are featured at this link.

I love them so much, I had to have more. Since they have arrived at my local Neiman Marcus, I was able to get my hands on them this time. The result? I had to have a fourth: Insidious. I would not have selected Insidious from the photo above - it looked too orange for me - but once I had the opportunity to see it in person, test it on my skin, and "know" it, I was sold.

My photo directly above shows the true color of Insidious. Isn't it gorgeous? Here's the sparse marketing blurb. If it's Tom Ford, you don't really need to "sell."

For Tom Ford, lips can be a woman's most alluring feature. Tom Ford Lip Color Shine envelops the lips in a semi-transparent, high-shine color veil. Each sensuous and delicate shade glides on with a luminous sheen, instantly moisturizing and conditioning the lips.

Developed with the rare and exotic ingredients - soja seed extract, Brazilian murumuru butter, and chamomilla flower oil - the Tom Ford Lip Color Shine conditions, moisturizes, and delivers color with lustrous shine.

I took swatch photos of Insidious in full sun so that you could see its radiant, juicy beauty. I don't want to cause a stampede, but I think it's a public service to show you.

Shiny, sheer, and hydrating, this pink-toned peach is scrumptious. It looks edible in its "peachyness." It reminds me of a Chanel Rouge Coco Shine color I enjoyed all summer - a color that looks orange in the tube, but is much like this color on my lips. You can see Flirt here.

While these two shades aren't exact duplicates, they are similar in their appeal. If you love Flirt, you will love Insidious. If you haven't tried Flirt or Insidious yet, join the gals hanging around the Tom Ford counter. There's usually a crowd.

You can find Tom Ford's Lip Color Shine at Neiman Marcus, where I purchased Insidious during Beauty Event, Bergdorf Goodman, the John Barrett Salon, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Not all stores with Tom Ford Beauty counters carry the full line of cosmetics.

What a beautiful spring like color! I must get myself to a Tom Ford counter as soon as possible! Thank you for the gorgeous swatch!! Another lemming......!

Gorgeous! I am on the fence about which one I want from TF and I do not have a counter near me. Flirt just didn't look right on me. I've tried to switch back and forth between pics of Frolic, Insidious and Flirt and it just isn't working, lol. Since Flirt was a little too orange I suppose is the problem (on my very pigmented lips) do you think Frolic might work for me? Insidious, while gorgeous, looks too similar to Flirt unfortunately IMO.

Those look lovely! I have been quite intrigued by Tom Ford's line lately, but I am an inveterate reader of ingredients and they are pretty much impossible to find on-line.

Melanie, what are you looking for? I have the box right in front of me. Too dark to photograph.

Charlestongirl said...

Dawn, do you want a pink? Warm or cool?

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Veronica,

I want to know if you can select only one of these beauties when you see them. :)

You are a doll! Any parabens?

Just read about your foot. Hope it heals quickly!

Hi CG. I'm looking for a peachy-pink, maybe even coral in color, something spring-y but not too bright. I can wear either warm or cool as long as it's not too warm or too cool. I'm fair but with really pigmented lips and they always change the color of the lipstick or lipgloss no matter how much I try and prep them. Frolic looks pretty - on some it appears to pull more pink than peach - but I worry it's too close to Flirt and I dont want to make a $48 mistake if I can help it. :-) Keep that foot up and feel better!

Charlestongirl said...

Thanks, Melanie!

Doesn't look like it has parabens, unless cleverly disguised.

Charlestongirl said...

Gosh, Dawn, of the four I own, I'd say either Frolic or this one. Maybe you would like Frolic the most.

Thank you! Enjoy the weekend.

I ordered this shade too. Love these. Some ninny on the specktra website says she has swatches of the Tom Ford summer collex days ago, but she's kept me in suspense. AHHHHHH

Does Mazza Gallerie Neiman's carry the Tom Ford lipstick?

This color is so...(I'm searching for the perfect word)well-balanced and even in it's pigmentation. Do you know what I'm trying to say? Some sheer lipcolors just sort of fade away into a balm of sorts. Not this one! I think I may have found a lipcolor worth it's weight in gold! Thx, CG, and get well soon!

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Anonymous,

That's a game. She wants readers to check every day to drive her visit counts up.

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Anonymous,

Mazza has only the original lipsticks, not these. Tysons has them.

Charlestongirl said...

Hi MamaVal,

Yes, I understand. :)

Oh no...I was trying to convince myself that I didn't need these because they are overpriced and I could probably find something similar from another brand BUT I am dying over Insidious right now. It's SO gorgeous! It looks much more shimmering and complex than Flirt, which I love. Oh goodness...I am such a sucker for these types of sheer lippies. I will start browsing around to see if there is something similar enough from Dior or Chanel but I may just have to splurge and go for the TF!

Hi let's see if this get's posted! I am the " Ninny" that has swatches of Tom Ford spring. Sorry yo had to wait a few days for your swatches! No, I do not get anything for posting on Specktra , it is not a game and I do NOT profit from posting there as it is not my website . I do visit this blog a lot and have promoted it as a fav. But it is very very snarky here.

Anonymous said...

Neicy where can I see your swatches? Do you have the Asia exclusives or the regular summer 2013 colors?

M_M

Neicy, I was joking, ninny isn't really an insult, just a term of endearment. I apologize if you were insulted or missed my sarcasm, as its easy to do on the net. You can't tease us with loveliness and not post!,

Haha. Take care.

After having seen the gorgeous promo pictures of TF's summer collection, I'm sure we're all waiting with bated breath to see actual swatches. The beautiful pink warmth of sunset colors make me want to kick of my shoes and go for an evening walk along the beach :-)

As for TF's Shine, I think he has a real hit on his hands. I've been practically living in Quiver and Frolic. For evening, Ravenous--a beautiful cerise--has become one of my favorites. I also have Nubile which is a lovely nude, but I don't often wear a nude lip so that one is not getting the same workout that the others are getting. I actually think these glisten more than shine. When the light hits the micro shimmer, the colors really come to life. Whatever you want to call them, though, one thing is for sure--they're all beautiful.

Hi CG, I LOVE Flirt! I love it so much, I wore it almost the entire Spring/Summer last year. Do you think the TF formula is better than RC Shine? $48 is a bit steep for a similar shade; however, it is a shade that I really love.

Walls said...

Now you really have me chomping at the bit! I think I want Nubile, Smitten, Insidious, and Frolic... I've yet to make it to a Tom Ford beauty counter - all of the Tom Ford I've purchased has been blind or with the aid of beauty blog swatches such as yours. What are your thoughts on Smitten? Thanks for sharing with us. Rest that foot of yours and enjoy some QT with Charlie!

Dawn said...

Thanks CG. As long as you don't think Flirt and Frolic are too similar then Frolic it is! :-) It is the color that's been calling me the whole time so I guess that should have told me something, lol. Thanks for the awesome swatches.

This is stunning. Thank you for posting. I have Bare which is a lovely nude. Now I might have to pick up another!

Neicy, sorry! In my haste...and probably pain...I assumed that the reference was to a blogger desperate to drive up page views. My apologies.

If you think that bloggers don't do things like that, think again. It is, unfortunately, a competitive world. I think because ads, gratis products, invitations, and more come with page views, the results can be less than transparent.

I don't think it's snarky here. I delete snarky comments, as I stated last week. Most of us love a good makeup chat, and for some reason, women take comments way too personally. Make a comment about obesity, someone gets offended. Make a comment about marriages and divorce, someone gets offended. The Internet is a tricky place.

Anyhow, that TF collection has us all salivating. Enjoy!

Becca, they are crazy expensive. I wince at the extra $10 or so. The closest thing t have are the new YSL shines, but they are not exactly the same. I fear you are going to need to spring for one.

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Claire,

I like it better because Rouge Coco Shine loses its shine in 30 minutes or less.

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Walls,

To answer your question, I have to go swatch Smitten. I'll try to do that today if I can find where I stuck my tennis shoes. I'll need them for some support.

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Dawn,

Always go with your gut instincts!

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Lizzy! I really think it's a near-perfect shade.

Charlestongirl said...

Hi Eileen,

Great description, as always.

Funny about the TF summer collection. I don't really need to see swatches. I've already decided what I want, and I will not be deterred by the price. Now, I have to make that a mantra: I will not be deterred by the price! :)

It's too bad, but I'd buy more TF if it were just a little less pricey.

Hi CG

What are your lemmings from the summer collection?

Im thinking about the big powder but I also want the big Guerlain wooden bronzer as well as Too Faced loose hearts and I suspect they will all serve similar purposse so I need to decide.

Eileen said...

Hi Charlestongirl,

"I will not be deterred by the price. I will not be deterred by the price. I will not be deterred by the price. I will not . . ." As you can see, I'm busy practicing your--my--new mantra! LOL. Between the promo pic (fulltimeford.com) and a "real" picture of the products (beautygypsy.com), I'm a total goner!

Hi Claire,

I agree with Charlestongirl. Chanel's Shine's glossy finish wears off more quickly because it is slicker (more like a gloss) to begin with. TF's Shine isn't as slick looking when first applied. It has more of a glistening quality to it. I believe TF describes it as a "satin shine". TF's Shine is also more pigmented to begin with and the color can be easily built up. In short, Chanel and TF have two different and distinct products. That might change when we see Chanel's newly reformulated Shine selection that will soon be coming out. Chanel's new Shine is supposed to be more pigmented.

Hi Dawn,

Color difference aside, even the finish and textural difference between Flirt and Frolic are enough to warrant having them both (IMHO). And, because the TF is more pigmented, a bit less of your own lip color will come through especially if you make two passes. On my medium-dark rose lips, Flirt looks darker and rosier than the bullet. Frolic; however, looks more true to the bullet color with even one pass because it is more opaque. Decisions, decisions, decisions! LOL
