Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow Fresh Effect Eyeshadow from the Été Papillon de Chanel Collection for Summer 2013 - Swatches

Chanel's limited-edition Stylo Eyeshadow Fresh Effect Eyeshadows ($34) from the Été Papillon de Chanel Collection for Summer 2013 have arrived. I ran right into the display today when I stopped by Neiman Marcus looking for the Tom Ford Summer Collection (not there).

The Été Papillon de Chanel Collection display is gorgeous. Featuring colorful mascaras, Les Vernis, eye shadows and liners, and lip colors, it sings summer. I'll have a Rouge Coco Shine to show you tomorrow.

With a smooth-gliding applicator pen, these Stylo Eyeshadows deliver lightweight, long-wearing color to highlight the lids or precisely line the eyes with gleaming color. There are six gleaming shades, from light and soft to dark and metallic.

Chanel says this eye shadow pen doubles as an eyeliner. The pen will create an iridescent, long-lasting effect. The cooling, water-infused formula should feel good. The specially designed angled tip permits versatile application - whether you want to use it as a shadow or a liner.

The shades range from fabulous to flashy.
  • Moon River (platinum)
  • Cool Gold (luminous gold)
  • Pink Lagoon (fresh pink)
  • Jade Shore (tender green)
  • Blue Ray (silvery turquoise blue) - a shade that's prominent at Chanel for summer
  • Black Stream (silvery black)
I selected three. They are shown from left to right above: #07, Moon River, #17, Cool Gold, and #36, the irresistible Jade Shore. Then I rushed home and took swatch photos.

Moon River, shown at the top of my arm, was my first choice. I am a complete pushover for taupe eye shadows. What can I saw? They look good on me. The bright gold Cool Cold should have been named Hot Gold. It's a sizzler.

The icy blue Jade Shore looks green in the tube, but it translates into icy aqua blue on my skin. It's a gorgeous color; it just doesn't apply (on me) as the color band on the tube suggests it will.

All of the Stylo Eyeshadow Fresh Effect Eyeshadow glide onto the skin and blend beautifully. They seem fluid on application. They can be applied lightly for a sheer wash of color or layered for more color oomph.

When you want to use it as an eye shadow, Chanel recommends that you apply to the lids in one stroke for a sheer, halo effect, or build the color with several strokes for more intensity. When you want to use it as a liner, Chanel suggests that you apply it with the tip toward the inner corner of the eye and smooth the color outward along the inner lash line. Under the lower lashes, apply from the outer to inner corner, with the tip turned toward the outer corner of the eye. Does that make sense? I'll just experiment when the Stylo Eyeshadows arrive at counters.

The Été Papillon de Chanel Collection for Summer 2013 just arrived at Neiman Marcus Tysons Galleria, so it should be coming to a store near you very soon.

Are these limited edition? Your swatches are lovely!

Hi, not sure, but I will check.

Hi Anonymous,

The promo info for this collection labels all of these as limited editions. Whether that means just the colors or the actual stylo eyeshadow format itself, I don't know. Perhaps Chanel is testing the waters with these seeing as Laura Mercier and Bobbi Brown have been so successful with this type of product.

Hi Charlestongirl,

That Jade Shore is gorgeous against your skin. What does it do for your eye color? You've mentioned before that your irises take on a different hue depending on the shadow color. Does JS make them lean blue or green?

Blue certainly is having a moment, isn't it? From the early pops of blue compliments of Armani and Clé de Peau to the full on peacock effect of Chanel, Lancôme, and Dior's summer collections, blue is obviously the color of choice for the summer season. I have an appointment with Marcus Monson of Guerlain fame in two weeks. I think I'll ask him to do something colorful. He'll probably have a heat attack--LOL--but if anyone can adapt a colorful summer look to my (ahem!) mature features, it will be him :-)

Oops, I meant poor Marcus might have a "heart" attack. I'm the one who has the "heat" attacks! LOL

I love this Moon River shade, even the name is good.

Thanks, Eileen. I was working on a proposal and didn't have time yet to make sure they were LEs.

I think JS makes my eyes look greener, but it really depends on the lighting. I can prompt my eyes to look green with my clothing more so than with my eye shadow. I'm wearing JS now, smudged lightly over the light tan base base I applied this morning, and I see no real color change in my eyes. I do see a gorgeous eye shadow shade - definitely not as blue as it looks on the display model. :)

Hi Solance, the name and the color. Divine!

I almost fainted when I saw this post!!!

I have been waiting SO impatiently for these. I wanted Moon River, Blue Ray and Black Stream the second I saw the promos on-line, but don't Cool Gold and Jade Shore also look divine. Zut alors ! At this rate, I'll have to get one of each!

And, yes, they really do seem to be LE. I am still shaking my head over this.

CG, how do you think they will resist creasing?

Oh my, Moon River looks like it will definitely be coming home with me! While I love the aqua and idea of the brighter shades, I just don't know if I would get much use from them. Between Chanel & Dior, it's going to be a very colorful and costly summer! ;)

Be still my beating heart! I love the convenience of this type of product especially when the weather turns hot and I'm looking for a simple eye. I just wanted to take a moment to dwell and gush a bit over the beautiful colours :) Yippee a cool gold! Warm golds are tortuous on me and make me look terribly sallow. I can picture myself wearing them all!!!!

So pretty! I'm really looking forward to the nail polishes from this collection so I'll be on the lookout for it. BTW, my local NM says the Tom Ford collection will be in store "any minute" I'm impatiently waiting for the phone call!

Hi Eileen, heat, heart - it's still an attack. :)

Melanie,

So far, so good. Remember I use the fabulous primer by Edward Bess, so creasing is not usually an issue for me.

Hi Erin,

I did not expect to purchase Jade Shore. I couldn't resist once I saw it, and after wearing it today, I think I love it. It's not loud or tacky when applied as a sheer wash of color.

Hi Wwendalynne,

Imagine my thrill when I saw them at the counter. The for-sale products were still in the back, so I sent the SAs on a treasure hunt. :)

Jo, the nail lacquers are drop-dead gorgeous. I am limited on money these days, so check The Beauty Look Book. Sabrina will probably cover them.

hi!!! i will definitely try these on at my local chanel counter. although, i've been trying to re-purchase products from last years very wearable collection. i've found most except two of the nailpolishes and bronzer are gone forever. it will be interesting what my local artist will put together for me and, i really hope it's wearable. i will be sent home from work if i wear blue eyeshadow so, even though it's very trendy, a no for me. i'm also anxious about tom ford's collection. i want to see the model wearing this collection so, i can understand tom ford's "vision" and interpretation for his summer look. i think his is a little more understated from what i know so far? maybe i'm wrong. @ eileen....i'm jealous!! i've never had the pleasure of meeting "mr. monswoon" as i call him but, i've emailed him a few times. would you please let us know what colors he chooses for you. i don't think guerlain's summer is vivid, colorful. but, spring collection is. thankyou!!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Wendy,

I've had the pleasure of having Marcus do my makeup a couple of times in the past and so I'm really looking forward to being in his chair again. He is a truly gifted MA and a gracious gentleman. Elegant and eloquent, he is the perfect spokesman for Guerlain. Needless to say, his yearly visit to our local Guerlain counter is always fully booked. We'll see what he comes up with for me this time :-)

I totally agree with you CG, the gold color did not seem very "cool" to me at all, it looked quite warm in your swatch. The Pink Lagoon sounds like it would be pretty, I couldn't find a swatch online though, and I also love that the collection for summer is Ete Papillon, because I love the butterflies. :-) Thanks for sharing these with us!

Temptress! Haha ;) It does sound wonderful, I'll have to keep an eye out for it too!

.. and possibly Pink Lagoon as well... So much for passing on these!

Hi! I am so excited to discover that you have posted the Chanel Summer 2013. I can't wait to get these here in Canada.
I really don't know what color or colors to get with blue eyes. I would love to here your suggestions and I can't wait for the colorful mascara that will be released with these new shadows.

Could you please list the ingredients? I would like to purchase this, but I have several allergies to things in cosmetics. Since Chanel does not list their ingredients, and this is not available in stores, I can't find out if this contains something to which I am allergic.
Thanks for your help.

I got to see the samples today and it was suggested I get Moon River and Jade Shore together and we tested it on my hand and it looked fantastic together.
