Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in Rivière from the Fleur de Lotus Collection at Nordstrom

Chanel's limited-edition Illusion D'Ombre in Rivière (#87, $36) was introduced in the United States with the Fleur de Lotus Collection, exclusive to Nordstrom. When I saw the photo on Nordstrom's Web site, I knew I had to try it. You may have read about it at The Non-Blonde. She featured the icy green shade when it was an Asia exclusive.

It must have been popular at Nordstrom. It has disappeared from Chanel's Fleur de Lotus Collection page. I can see why! I think it's seriously stunning. If you haven't seen it, go straight to a Nordstrom store to try to find it. I'm not able to bring it up at Nordstrom.com anymore.

Chanel's own photo shown at the top of this feature is much better than mine, which was snapped in late-afternoon sunshine. The color is more green than my photo shows.

I applied it with my own cream eye shadow brush, not the brush that comes with it. Rivière is very, extremely sheer, which I love. It leaves a veil of iridescent pastel green that's easy to wear precisely because it's sheer.

The Non-Blonde said that Chanel's instructions for application are to take the needed amount of product and avoid re-dipping and swirling in the pot to save the eye shadow's integrity and texture. There are no instructions on or inside the box. Silly me, I simply layered it until I was happy with the swatches for these photos - and I did the same thing on my eyelids. I suspect no harm came to the shadow's integrity or texture.

This intensely shimmering long-wear eyeshadow offers true versatility. An innovative gel texture that is both soft and cushiony allows it to be worn as eyeshadow or eyeliner. Each shadow includes a specially designed shadow/liner brush, developed specifically for this unique formula.

Now that you can purchase Rivière in the United States, you won't have to bother your friends and acquaintances in Asia - or try to move heaven and earth - to buy it. Tempted? I love it and highly recommend it.

I had been waiting impatiently for the sale to get this and the Fleur de Lotus blush. When the early access began, it was nowhere to be found -- but luckily a kind soul at Nordstrom's online CS got me in touch with a counter that had it and they shipped everything for free.

Both pieces are totally worth it. Love, love, love

Hey Laci, they are dribbling my order at me. One item from one store, another from another. Order STILL not complete!

Yes, so far, definitely worth waiting for. :)

Nida, act fast if you want it.

Hi Stacie,

I'm a green gal too and absolutely love this icy shade.

I'm wearing this right now, and I totally agree about the sheerness; the wash of pale green shimmer is what makes it so wearable. Love it :) Thanks for the review!

i lusted after this when i saw the photos from the asia collection. i went to my nordies at 5 pm the first day of the private sale and got the last one. was told they would have more for the public sale- went the first day to get another one- sold out. they ordered one from another store for me. it is now sitting in my gift cabinet waiting for the lucky recipient's birthday. i would have cried if i didn't get one. i feel blessed to have one for my dear friend. she will be soooo excited, she has no idea. :)
i love love love this color- it is so sheer and so fabulously understated- try it with the an orange lippy! BTW- i think this is my first green????

I was SO tempted to pick this up, though I knew I would probably never wear it (I don't think it would compliment my medium, warm skin tone as well as it would other skin tones). It's just soooo pretty, I think I wanted to buy it just to own it and look at it :P

I was fortunate enough to buy Riviere, as well as the eye quad, Rives, and the blush, Fleur de Lotus from the collection of the same name. I too love the Riviere. Moreover, Cg, the non-blonde would be none too happy with me because I have blasted the heck out of my shadow's integrity and texture. It is indeed exquisitely lovely.

Wish I had worn it today, Pretty Addicted. Alas, I was testing another shadow.

Hi LSBD, are you really going to be able to give it away?

Charlestongirl said...

Maybe not, Becca. There will be others. :)

LOL, Nemo, we are abusing our makeup. I am still waiting for the quad and blush to show up. Every box I've received has had one item in it, and they are trickling in from different stores.

You will love both the quad and the blush, Cg. The latter is the most unusual color I have ever seen in CHANEL; the quad is rich and smokey. You can put it on thick, layer after layer, and it still looks sheer and sexy. I have been wearing it every day. However, tomorrow I will wear my new Guerlain #14 Les Fauves that just arrived. Can't wait!

Nemo, mine just arrived via UPS! Not sure why it took so long, but yippee!

I ordered one and can't wait to receive mine (my first illusion) !!! However, I am worry the quality would be compromised during transit and storage due to the summer heat.
Charleston girl, you live in a warm area (?), how do your illusion d'ombres fare in higher heat? Thanks, Lisa

Just fine, Lisa. Don't worry.
